We understand this bakery is a French artisan bakery but they should offer some basic choices as well - cakes, etc. We were told to try Hannaford when looking for a basic b-day cake that didn't have ganache or something else that was odd. Did nothing to help us. The cake we did try was dry and crumbly and didn't hold together. Preferred a colorful happy cake but tried what they offered. Not happy. Cookies are dry as were the rolls we purchased. Fred the reviewer who bases the prior bakery is one of the owners and of course he would rate it perfectly. Won't go back.

Blue Sky Bakery is miles above the former bakery that occupied this building. The former bakery was all vegetable shortening and commercial fillings from 5 gallon tubs. Blue Sky is an artisan bakery with real friendly staff and owners. The baker (owner) uses fresh ingredients and makes small batches from scratch. Her fruit & cream scones are amazing! The Cakes are delicious. An earlier reviewer mentioned kids not eating ta birthday cake...oh well, I suggest you try a big box retailer next time, as their cakes are in keeping with the cheap, vegetable shortening and artificial flavored baked goods that the former bakery used to put out. On the other hand, I'll take Blue Sky Bakery's fresh vanilla torte with hand made raspberry coulis filling any day.Yum. Central Maine is fortunate to have a bakery of this quality. A must stop, if you are passing through Gardiner.

This bakery is not here anymore - there is one called Blue Sky Bakery instead. MacDonald's Bakery was traditional, inexpensive and freshly made homestyle pastries. People came from far and wide to eat their goodies and when relatives from out of state would come to Maine, they always went there to take stuff home. The new bakery, Blue Sky, is non-traditional, not at all kid friendly (kids would not eat the cake we bought) and very expensive. Everything has ganache in it - what is that anyway? I wish MacDonald's would reopen in another place, even another name. I would buy stock.

Lots of great pastries to choose from. The eclairs are made with hand made pastry cream and a belgian chocolate glaze. The scones and danish are superb. Friends of mine suggested this bakery because of the soft scones and the fresh fruit tarts. A worker at the counter told me the scones stay moist and soft because fresh cream is used in the recipe; they are so much better than the dry brick like scones found everywhere else. They also serve my favorite coffee, Carrabassett coffee from Kingfield, Maine. The Rooster Roast rule!

Pros: small batch artisan baking with fresh ingredients
