If you are a family looking for a place to work out, I would suggest looking elsewhere. This YMCA is more of a daycare center than a fitness facility. If you are not in one of their programs, then the times available for use are very limited to a few hours...mostly at dinner time. The staff are rude and disinterested. I know several people who have canceled their memberships because of this. The climbing wall has only one person attending so in two hours time, you might get to climb once. While you wait, though, you can watch unsupervised kids trying to injure themselves by jumping off the "ledge" onto a mat below...or onto each other. You have to be 13 in order to swim in the pool without an adult in the water....so apparently, those aren't lifeguards you see there...just pool rule nazis. You have to be 14 in order to use the workout center. The racquetball court floors are so dusty that they are slippery. All that is left is walking around the track. I can't justify paying nearly $600.00 per year for this "privilege".

My sister in law had her son who was three at the time attend the y for daycare a few yours a day... She stated that more than once she went in and found the workers yelling at certain kids and also pulling them to get them where they needed to go.... She also stated that they went through day care providers very quickly there.. I think kids need to have stability and have the same daycare providers for more than one week at a time. She wasn't comfortable and then decided to pull him so based upon this info I would have a hard time leaving my child in this environment...

The Old Town "Y" i would highly recommend over the bangor "Y". It's very affordable for college students, low income families; I think mainly because of it's location. They offer a wide variety classes from gymnastics to yoga. Excellent walking track, a couple swimming pools, weight room, wall climbing. It's a fun place to go!
