Sobo Books & Coffee

Not Sobo Books and Coffee anymore. That went out of business. New owners have revived it as The Early Bird Cafe. They took out everything from Sobo and completely repainted and refurnished it. It is gleaming now. Great coffee, comfortable surroundings and to-die-for blueberry muffins as well as bagels and egg sandwiches. Very nice vibe.

I, for one, was a huge fan of So Bo. People that wrote any bad reviews were obviously not regular or even more than one time customers. The owner was very friendly, and the book selection was very interesting. I loved all the little products she had, such as stars with random words on them. I'm very sorry the store has to go, and I wish M best of luck in life.

I was in SoBo Book and Bean about a month and a half ago. I will NOT be going back. The place was disgustingly dirty and there were books in boxes everywhere. Behind the coffee counter was nasty. The espresso steamer had what looked like pounds of steamed milk ? caked on. Hello, germs! I could not get out of there quick enough. Hopefully the owner will take these reviews into account and do some work.

I really enjoyed walking into this fine establishment until i looked around and I noticed that every book was torn up. Books were in cardboard boxes. I notices that the coffee part was extremely small area behind the counter. It had the coffee everywhere. What was disturbing was that there was a grate in the floor in the center of the room. Like what the heck is up with that. The "best" part was actually the worst was that there was coffee beans everywhere. As I was walking out I had noticed them because I do not usually have my head down when I walk around! Besides all the above flaws. The owner is doing good considering she was re doing her place but if she lets it get that bad. Then maybe things would be different!=]

Although some part of me recognizes the irony in how places like this just popped up right around the same time yoga got trendy, I am still glad that SoBerwick is reaching out from its red-neck status to include a hip coffee shop and bookstore. Although small, with limited selection, this store has a great vibe, friendly employees, and some of the better patrons in the town.
