I thought this vet was very knowledgible and caring. At church, I asked for a recommendation and many of the members said to go to him. I'm very glad our Harley and Charley have great people to care for them. The pricing is good too.

We are very picky about where to take our pets and when we moved into town, they were the 3rd place we went to check out--We have been with Mapleview ever since because we found them to be most knowledgible and caring to our pet. From the time we set the appointment, our consultation, and the help they gave us with our puppy's worm problems---we have been extremely lucky to have found them. Our dog is now running around and healthy as ever. Also: thanks for all the extra literature on how to train our dog--your help has made him much more enjoyable!

Our dog died because of the negligence from Dr. Bader and his staff. We took her there because she was vomiting. Bader's staff told us that she was allergic to her food and to change it to another brand. It made her worse. They told me that I must be causing our dog to be sick because I was under a lot of stress from family tragedy. Dr Bader minimized everything she was going through, and even laughed at how concerned I was and prescribed Rimadyl, which made her worse. She was vomiting brown gunk in big pools all over the place. After 3 weeks we begged him to refer us to Michigan State. After much delaying (3 hours) and with a big chip on their shoulders we got the referral. We took her Michigan State's Small Animal Clinic immediately and found out, in two days, that she had stomach cancer. She had lost over 30 lbs in Dr. Bader's care in just 3 weeks and she couldn't stand up because she was so weak. Michigan State vets performed surgery on her and the cancer had spread to 2 lymph nodes. If Bader would have referred us when she first became ill chances were good that Michigan State could have removed all of the cancer and saved her life. She died a horrible, painful death 4 months later. I couldn't believe the lack of concern from Dr. Bader's office. I would call them with questions and ideas of what could be wrong and I was treated like I was a thorn in their sides and waisting their time. I was confused...where was the nice Dr. Bader who seemed to love our pets??? It truly was a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Where was the concern of all of his staff who I was sure loved my animals as much as I did? The WORST experience I've ever had with a vet. Go to Dr. Heitman...he's the best! And no, I don't work for him and I'm not related or even a close friend. Contact the state and ask for a written copy of the actual cases against Dr. Bader...it's a real eye opener and you have a right to that information. Those are just the cases that were proven with evidence. They don't accept and make charges on word of mouth. If you don't have written evidence from other veterinary facilities your case is tossed out. Go to Dr. Heitman! He's a little more expensive but your pet receives the best of veterinary knowledge and practice. They don't hesitate to make a referral if they think your pet would recieve better care in a bigger facility. To the best of my knowledge I don't know who wrote the first review here. It's reassuring to know there is someone else who feels as passionately about this as I do. If your pet is ill and under Dr. Bader's care, take them to another vet ASAP. Hopefully they won't have to be your evidence.

More about Mapleview Animal Hospital

The motto at Mapleview is "if you can bring it, we can see it." As a testimony to this, we have a large client base of exotic pets. We see numerous ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs and birds. We've performed goat c-sections at the clinic. One client has an exotic animal farm with Lemurs, African Civets, Galapagos Tortoises, and Bobcats, to name a few of the animals. We see several birds each week at the clinic ranging in size from Lovebirds to Macaws. However, Dr Bader does not see snakes, spider or scorpions. Grooming Barb Balder, Mapleview's full-time groomer, works 6 days per week by appointment. Appointments are for either morning or afternoon. Barb is a graduate of Paragon School in Jenison and grooms all breeds of dogs and cats. Boarding Dogs, cats and birds are welcome guests at Mapleview while their owners are on vacation. Dogs stay in a climate controlled room in in-door runs. They are walked twice daily. Dogs may bring their favorite food, toys and treats for their stay. Blankets and bowls are provided. Runs are 3'X5' or 5'X8' and can accommodate even the largest dog. Cats have a carpeted room with several windows giving them a view of the birds outside. Cat condos are available for an additional charge. Accommodations are also available for all size birds.
