As a rule I tend to have a dim view of chains, but the formula for Panera seems pretty likable. I can go in, have a good sandwich and a coffee for lunch, or get some of their bagels for breakfast the next day, and feel okay about it afterward. The staff are college kids and seem to try hard. The dining atmosphere is low key, with seating a mix of table and booths (and a few cushy chairs near the entrance). Customers will sack out and access the wireless signal. People tend to mind their business so if you are a single woman traveler no one will bother you. The food (sandwiches, paninis, salads, and soups) are all pretty good. If I'm shopping in Kalamazoo, and I get hungry and just want a quiet place to read a paper, check something on line, drink a coffee, and gather my thoughts, a Panera is a place I'd choose if it was around. I find the pastries the most expensive of the store's offerings.

They have good quality coffee and baked goods but aI find they are more expensive than Beaners or Starbucks. They have limited flavors compared to Starbucks and Beaners. The staff is friendly the couple of times I have been there. THEY DO OFFER YUMMY SAMPLES OF THEIR BREADS AND PASTERIES OUT AND OPEN FOR ALL TO SAMPLE AND ENJOY. THAT IS RATHER NICE. THEY ARE ALSO WELCOME AND WILLING TO GIVE SAMPLES OF THE COFFEE IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF YOU LIKE THE PRODUCT. THE PARKING IS VERY GOOD THE PARKING SPOTS ARE LARGE AND WILL ACCOMODATE LARGER VEHICLES. I HAVE RECOMENDED THEM TO FRIENDS AND THEY HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH TIER SERVICE.
I WOULD SUGGEST THEIR CUPS BE A LITTLE MORE INSULATED SO AS NOT TO BE HOT ON THE FINGERS. OR OFFER THE CUP RINGS TO ASSIST WITH THAT.
PROS: Good quality
CONS: fewer clavor choices as other coffee houses.

Panera has delicious and high quality food. But what I love the most about their company was there generosity to our church's food bank. One of our members knew the owner or manager and they donated a huge amount of "day old" stuff which was still fresh. We were able to share this abundance with several other food pantries too!

Panera Bread has a wonderful selection of food! I love their bread and even though I am not a coffee drinker, I love their Chai Tai! It is the best! They offer unique sandwiches and their service is great!
