You drive by and see a little dive on the corner of Woodward. It is strange because you see that Mercedes parked next to an old pickup. You peek in and see a couple in formal attire sittng next to a young couple on date night. All of them are savoring the unique taste of Hunter House Burgers. They are never premaid. Always fresh and cooked to your specifications. These are not Jumbo burgers, they are normal sized. If you have a taste for a real burger, Hunter House is the place to go!

I grew up just north of the Hunter House, but spent plenty of time at my grandparents(less than a mile away from the Hunter House) and let me tell you, it never gets old. One review on this page says that it is not romantic? Since when has the burger had to be romantic! 50 years ago, people would chow on these delectable morsels, with greasy hands after drag racing down Woodward Avenue...and I like to think that same atmosphere prevails today. My only problem with the hunter house is that I can't help but to over eat everytime I go there. The take out window is completely seperate from the dining room, so it cuts down on the congestion, and being walking distance from downtown...you can't put a price on it's location. Do yourself a favor next time you are in Metro-Detroit, and stop into the Hunter House, you will be glad you did.

I GREW UP ON THESE BURGERS. NOW THAT I'M AWAY I STOP IN HERE
WHENEVER I'M IN TOWN. DON'T SWEAT THE DETAILS, THIS PLACE IS RIGHT OUT OF THE 60'S.
DOUBLE BURGER HOLD THE CHEESE. FRIES ARE GREAT AND VIEW OF WOODWARD AVENUE
IS CLASSIC. EASY ON POCKETBOOK. BEATS THE CHIEF BURGER DOWN THE ROAD.

The Hunter house in Birmingham is so great. They are know for there little greasy hamburgers covered with onions, pickles and what ever condiments you request. I usually eat about four burgers and fries. It is a very small place. The have two counters and some tables. It is always packed and can be hard to find a seat. It is well worth it though. I have been going their for years and love it every time.

For the location its amazingly cheap, and about 10 times better than white castle. If you dont think so try it, the double cheese is the only way to go.

World Famous Hamburgers Since 1952

More about Hunter House Hamburgers

Hunter House Hamburgers was established in 1952 and is the longest continually operating restaurant in Birmingham, Michigan. We feature high quality hamburgers with the sweet onions smashed into the burgers while still on the grill. The chefs at Birmingham’s famed Townsend Hotel like to refer to them as “gourmet sliders”. Our famous little white pill-box diner has no prejudice. You will find an old pickup parked next to a Mercedes Benz in our small, but packed, parking lot. From the hot and steamy buns to the smell and taste of grilled sweet onions, Hunter House consistently serves the best. “Just driving by and smelling the unmistakable aroma of the grilled onions can start you salivating, but that’s not enough. They must be eaten to really be appreciated,” says the Oakland Press. The much photographed vintage 50′s white porcelain diner comes complete with 28 counter stools and a fun and friendly atmosphere, and has remained virtually unchanged since its inception. “The place is an institution,” notes Mayor Tom McDaniel. “Al Papazian holds a special place in the history of Birmingham. We are proud to have a business with that kind of stability and longevity.” Al and his wife, Martha (deceased 1996) worked side by side, day and night for over 25 years to ensure that each of their customers was served promptly and with a smile. “Our guests deserve the best in quality and service,” says Al. Today, his daughter, Susan Papazian Cobb, is committed to carrying on that tradition from her mother and father. Hunter House now offers catering services for your home, office or corporate party. Let us bring our kitchen to you! Our “Diner on Wheels” is an 8 1/2′ x 30′ mobile catering kitchen with a state of the art, Health Department approved stainless steel kitchen inside. The diner is a fully self-contained unit, equipped with generators and run by propane. We are able to cook rain or shine and can prepare and serve 250 hamburgers per hour. We provide everything, including all paper goods. Our diner is operated and staffed completely by our trained Hunter House associates who will treat all guests with the utmost respect and service with a smile. Hunter House Hamburgers’ main objective is to provide our customers with the freshest and highest quality food in our industry. Our slogan is “Service with a Smile” and our superior hand-picked staff provides our customers with fast and friendly service. Our customers become our friends for life – no matter where they live; and they let us know this by coming back time and time again, and voting us #1 Burgers in the State of Michigan year after year. We look forward to serving you Michigan’s best hamburgers for many years to come!
