warning all pet owners.... I want to share my story about royal oak animal hospital so this doesnt happen to you,,, I have taken my dogs to this clinic for serval years. But in last few years Ive noticed a great staff turn over including the vets. I felt something must be wrong because they werent keeping staff but I continue to go there.FIRST MISTAKE....I use to get my dogs groomed there but a couple of times of picking them up and finding out they had cut them and then was charged for anitbotics I found a new groomer but continued to take them there for shots and heart worm checking..when I had my little 4lb Bella nuetered I ran into another problem..when I brought her home all she did was puke..I was concerned and of course called the vet,,Was told it was probably from medication given for surgery..ok that made since, but the next day she was still puking..call again..was told to bring her in.So off we went. She was given sug q fluids which I was charged for.I asked if it could be antibotic and was told NO..Well she didnt get better,Kept puking..another run to the vet, more fluids and another charge and again asked if it could be antibotic..again told NO by vet...After the 3 time of this repeat needless to say I was worrried and getting pissed and they knew it because when I took her again they had the owner of royal oak clinic come in to deal with me.When I asked her could it be the antibotic she said yes it could be and we took her off and she never puked again. But I still continued going there SECOUND mistake..Everytime I took my two little dogs into this vet for shots, heartworn ck and heartworm medication. I was never informed by any of the vets or staff that they should be on heartworm medication year around. So I was doing the 6 month treatment and have done this for years..I.get call from vet that my 4.7lb little bella tested slightly poss for heart worm. Slighty possitive?? So they wanted to re test her so back we go,nervous dog nervous us...get call still tested slightly poss so back we go for more blood work for another test to see if there was any active larva..came back Neg.In the meantime the vet I was dealing with and gained some trust in left the practice. another one bites the dust... but now we are left hanging on what to do and dealing with another vet which told us we had no option but to treat bellas heart worm. and wanted to start it NOW. This treament is a very painful treatment for the dog,its a 6 month treatment and can cost 1,000 dollars or more, but we would do anything to save my little bella but there was even a chance of her not making it through treatment...3 weeks of hell.. blood work,,waiting,,then being told she had to be treated..My gutt kept telling me something isnt right so I took her for a 2nd opinon at another vet and guess what.?.after inhouse test of heart worm (royal oak animal hosp send test to a lab) it was NEG.So now what do we do..So my new vet said she normally doesnt run this other test on dogs but with her 2 Slightly poss results from other vet she said she felt this test would make sure my little Bellas was fine..The great news is it came back NEG..She DID NOT HAVE HEARTWORM!!!!! After 3 weeks of tests,,waiting..crying..scared for my little bella, feeling quilty because as a pet owner I should of known more about heartworm and pervention,,and not to mention the extra cost I dont think I need to say there will NOT BE ANYMORE mistake at royal oak animal hospital. I will never go back.. I did call and ask for a meeting with owner and office manager.which hasnt taken place yet.. They will in one way or another know that I am one unhappy person. Im even thinking of taking it to the news so this doesnt happen to another pet owner or poor dog. Makes me wonder how many poor dogs are being put through this expensive horrible treatment when its not needed..

This is the worst experience I have ever had. Where do i start...The lady who came in the room to examine my dog was dressed completely unprofessional, but i got over that. Then the whole reason i brought my dog in was to get a mass on her lip checked out. The lady examined her and said "Ok i'm done" and the tech asked "are you going to look at her lip?" and she goes "ohhh yeah".....That was the whole reason i brought her in how do you forget that!!!!??? Then she said they needed to go do an estimate to see how much it would be to get it removed. As i was sitting in the waiting room I could hear them loud and clear talking about how they didn't know what the mass was, but they should jump at the chance to remove it because BUSINESS WAS SLOW!! Yeah no wonder business is slow you have no idea what you're doing. Then they came in and said they cant even do anything anyway because there is no dr. in today and they cant give me an estimate. NOTE: YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS IF THERE IS NO DR ESPECIALLY FOR SOMETHING TO BE REMOVED AND YOU KNOW YOU CANT DO ANYTHING. Finally they came back and said they guessed the estimate would be between $350 to $600...to get a little mass removed on the lip? i don't think so! i took her to another vet and they said it would only be 80 dollars. In the end i payed for them to do absolutely nothing but waste my time. Do not take your animals there they have no clue what's going on.

I would highly recommend bringing your pets to ROAH. I have been going to Dr. Jan for over 10 years and she has treated my pets and me with the greatest respect and kindness. I have had 2 major health issues with my cat (one was cancer) and am going through another rough time with my dog right now. I can only say that this group has been nothing but professional and compassionate through everything I have gone through. I also want to comment that there is a new doctor working at ROAH named Dr. Rachel Wolega who is AMAZING! Seriously, this doctor is so wonderful with animals and with parents and I trust her completely. If you had a bad experience in the past (I will have to agree that the front office receptionist may not always be the most friendly and sometimes, follow-up isn't done - thats why I call them - who cares if you are annoying them with all the phone calls - those are your kids! And shame on that person who allowed their dog to stay over night at the hospital after a routine procedure - you should have called them over and over until you got an answer - don't blame ROAH for your lack of parental responsibility!!!!), give ROAH another shot...just ask when Dr Wolega will be in - you will NOT be disappointed. I refer everyone I know to ROAH. I realize that we all love our animals - they are family. And a bad experience at a vet can be tramatic. But I have had nothing but a good experiences with this medical facility and feel that they provide me with the best possible care around. I will always go to ROAH as long as I live in Royal Oak!

If you care about your animals please do not take your animals to Dr. Collins. I have taken my dog to be neutered at this location and was sent home with antibiotics and an e-collar after surgery. I did some research ( by calling other vet clinics in the area) and found out that there is no reason that either should be necessary. If surgery is done with clean equipment there would be no need for antibiotics following a simple dog neuter and Dr. Collins could have put sutures under the dog's skin so that he wouldn't have had to wear that cone on his head.

Either this clinic is just looking to rob their clients by charging for unnecessary antibiotics or maybe they are using dirty equipment that would lead to antibiotics being necessary...either way...STAY AWAY.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE, MY DOG IS DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS PLACE!!!

Three years ago I noticed my chihuahua mix was gaining an accessive amount of weight, and began losing her hair. After several costly tests I was told that she was probably related to a hairless chihuahua breed and nothing could be done about the hairloss, The weight gain was probably related to overeating and I should put her on a diet. Several years passed, and my dog continued losing hair and gaining weight around her abdomen, and I continued taking my dog to the countless veterinarians that work here, at least 10 times and each time they would run a worthless test that would cost at least 100 dollars a piece on top of the office visit. To hear them say all tests were normal and it would probably help if I got her nuetured.

Upon hearing this, I ask the vet was there another place that I could go to do further testing because I was sure there was something seriously wrong with my dog? The vet referred me to another clinic that ran another set of worthless test worth 600 dollars and they said it was not cause for alarm and they recommended my dog get nuetured as well. In the meantime, my dog's stomach continued to swell and she continued losing hair.

Feeling "there was no cause for alarm, " a few months later I scheduled an appointment with the clinic to get my dog nuetured, and was told that they were concerned about her now extremely swollen belly and would like to run more tests on my dog. These particular tests cost $200 dollars. The tests came back showing a high liver count and showing that she had an infection. The vets in this office said that she needed exploratory surgery that would cost any where from $1000 - $1500. Feeling this price was extremely excessive I took my dog to another Vet, the next day, who did the same surgery for $400, but it was too late for my dog, he found a tumor the size of a small melon in my chihuahhua's abdominal cavity. The tumor was pushing on her heart and lungs and she had to be put to sleep. He told me if he had found the tumor sooner he would have been able to remove it, but now if he tried to remove it she would bleed to death. A side note is that her uterus was of normal size, so nueturing would not have saved my dog. Three years I trusted these veterinarians to take care of my dog, and they failed her! If you care about your animal do not take him/her to these incompetent, nickel and dime vets!

I went to Animal Health services in Madison heights. Oct 2 2009. Was charged for an examination fee for our cat that I didn't ask for, also treated very rudely by a black assistant lady who made our dogs nails bleed. She also called me back and continued to be rude. I will start going to a differen't clinic. Disapointed as I used to love this clinic in the past. Dr Janice Collins is overseeing it and new people are running it now.

Very disappointing. After going here for 10 years we are looking for new vet. Quality of medical care is questionable. Customer service also terrible. Constant confusion between multiple vets, technicians, and front office staff. Mix ups on scheduled appointments, tests ordered & not done, phone calls, animal pick-up and billing issues. I can accept an occassional mixup, but not repeated frustrations when the animal is clearly suffering.

I highly recommend Royal Oak Animal Hospital. I've been taking my two cats there for 5 years. They've always been able to get in me for same day appointments when there's been an emergency and have never kept me waiting long. When we had to put our cat to sleep the staff was excellent in making the experience as calm as possible. We even received a sympathy card from them that week. I will continue taking my pets there as long as I live in Royal Oak.

I called around the Royal Oak/Madison Heights area and kept speaking to vet offices that wanted to charge $40-$50 just to walk in the door with my dog, who I suspected had an ear infection. When I called ROVH - they seemed to have very reasonable prices and when I got there, they took me and my dog right away and the whole check-up and the three medications they prescribed for the ear infection was VERY reasonable. The vet was really attentive when answering my questions too. It was a very good experience and it was very convenient since I only live a mile and a half away. I'm glad I found them!

I took my cat to the Royal Oak Animal Hospital twice and both times the staff was very efficient and friendly. The veterinarian was very kind and honest about the services my cat needed....I could hear some of the staff through the door talking about how sweet my cat was, and also about other animals they ran across that day....they really seem to genuinely love animals. Also, the woman who answers the phone is very helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend this hospital.

My cat was seen in 20 minutes from the time I called this vet office. I am a new patient, but that didn't deter them from helping me out in a pinch. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the net was mindful of how much money I had to spend on paying for the medicine. The office is clean and spacious; busy.

THEY DO UNNESSARY TESTS JUST TO CHARGE YOU! If you go here you will be ripped off. Regardless of their poor reputation, I decided to give them a try because the location is convenient for me. That was a big mistake. The people like the vets at Royal Oak Animal Hospital is why the economy is the way it is. Not only do they make up unnessary charges, but it is the dirtiest vetinarians hospital I have ever been to.

I took my dog to the groomer and she noticed a discharge coming from my dog's female organ and told me to take her to the vet right away. I called Royal Oak Animal Hospital and they said to bring her in asap. When I got there the vet and all of the staff was super nice and they quickly did tests that revealed a uterine infection in my dog. They said if the uterus wasn't removed quickly, she wouldn't make it. They did the surgery right away and called me every step of the way. The prices were reasonable (I called other vets in the area to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off) and they worked out a payment plan for me. If not for this hospital, my dog may not be here. I will only go here from now on.

I recently had a horrible experience here. I've been bringing my dog here for several years..the customer service has never been great, but their vets seemed ok, so I kept going back. Recently, I took my dog in for a routine dental cleaning. I was contacted (on my cell, which was the number I supplied) and asked to provide approval on a tooth removal. I gave permission and was told that i would be contacted when she woke up. The vets office never called back...so after i got off work, at 6PM, I tried calling--they closed and never called me to let me know my dog was ready!
As a result, my dog, who is extremely shy and timid was left alone, in a cage, in the back of a cold, dark hospital all night, with no care.
I moral of the story here is...if you care about your pet, don't bring them here!

I recently had a horrible experience here. I've been bringing my dog here for several years..the customer service has never been great, but their vets seemed ok, so I kept going back. This is a great place to take your animals. They always remember me and my dog and cat when I go there. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. They always call to check on my dog or cat after they have been sick, to make sure they are doing better! The prices are very reasonable. The cat and bird that live there are great! You can tell these people love animals! I would recommend them to anyone!

Great place to take your pets! The staff and Doctors are great. You can tell they really love animals! They treat their clients like family. I had to take my dog there with an emergency, without an appointment. They took care of me right away, eased my fears and did surgery right away. They kept me well informed how my dog was, sent me home with detailed instructions and even called the next day, to see how she was doing! Their prices are extremely reasonable, too. I pay much less here then I did at my last vet, especially for emergency surgery! I would recommend them to anyone.

I found a large cut on my dog one morning. I took her in to the vet without an appointment. They took care of her right away. They were extremely friendly and helpful. They answered all of my questions, treated me with respect and the charge was extremely reasonable-especially for an emergency visit, which required sedation. They gave me detailed instructions and answered any questions I had. They called to check on my dog the next day to see how she was doing. My dog mended perfectly and I have been thrilled with them. They have a very friendly caring staff that treats its patients like part of the family. The doctors are all very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I would recommend this vet to anyone.

Always caring attentive and friendly doctors and staff. The resident parrot at the main counter is are a nice touch. ;)

I've been coming here for years. I'd never take my pets any where else, rats, cats dogs and more!

A close small knit facility and I feel treated like family.

I hope you enjoy taking your loved ones to this vet!

I took my long hair cat there for a hair cut. I picked her up later that day and as I was petting her, I noticed a CUT on her belly!

I had to call the vet to find out what happened. Rather than they call me and explain what happened or tell me when I picked her up. The vet admitted her belly was cut and they used a medical glue to stitch it back together. I was shocked the vet didn't say anything to me about it!

I have a pug and she got scratched in the eye. I took her to the Royal Oak Animal Hospital for treatment. The vet never introduced herself (which is normal since this was not the first time I had been there). I never had a serious problem with my dog before and the vet assured me this wasn't serious and gave my dog eye drops.
The eye drops were not the right type for a scratch. A ulcer developer on her within a few days and became infected. I had to take her to another vet to do surgery on her eye. After months of my poor dog going through a surgery where they sewed her eye lids shut then another surgery and more pain. After all this she ended up LOSING HER EYE!!!!
Do not go to this place!!! MY poor dog is now paying the price for the rest of her life and I live with the guilt.

I would recommend the Royal Oak Animal Hospital to anyone concerned about getting their pet(s) quality health care. The staff is very attentive and the doctors truly care about each patient they see. When our one cat was sick with terminal kidney failure each of the staff treated him as they would a member of their family.

Having gone to other vets over the years with our cats, I am impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities. I also like that their are resident animals to help calm the incoming patients, and their humans.

It started bad and only got worse....
My dog badly cut her leg on some glass. I called and told them what happen, she was bleeding everywhere and I saw a tendon hanging loose. THey told me to wait a half hour to come in because the doc wasn't there yet. After the doc did major repair of my dog's leg, she briefly came to talk to my husband, never introducing herself. My husband came back several hours later to pick up our dog, the assistant couldn't answer questions that my husband had, like can she use it? Can I give her pain meds? With every question the assistant had to go back and ask the doc. The doc wouldn't come out to talk with my husband. When my husband asked to talk with her, the doc said she would call the next day. It has been 2 days and no phone call yet. The printed information sheet they gave us has contradictory instructions. I will never go back!!!!!!

We had to take our cat here when we needed to get in right away. The staff was super friendly and did their best to help us stay calm. The prices were reasonable and the office itself was very clean. I would go back in the future and recommend to anyone else.

I went to this Animal Hospital after a bad experience at another office. This office was very clean and is easy to get into. The prices for their services are excellent. We have gotten top notch care from this office.
