We used to love Little Tree, so we decided to go there for our 3rd anniversary. Right away we realized they had changed one of our favorite sushi rolls by using fewer ingredients, and a smaller portion. Of course, the price was not lower. We decided to try the entrees as well, and mine (a Phillipine seafood dish) was the worst meal I've ever had in my life. Tasteless and not authentic at all. $62 later (not counting the tip) we decided that we will not be returning to Little Tree in the future. There are plenty of delicious and authentic Pan-Asian restaurants on the East side - do not waste your money on this place!!!

Pros: Fresh fish

Cons: Over-rated and over-priced

.

The food was decent but overpriced for what they were serving. The service was TERRIBLE. I am a server and I have never had such a bad experience. The first server that approached us rolled his eyes because we ordered water for the time being before we got a chance to look over the menu. The Server who brought us our drinks took our food order, brought out our food, when we asked for soy sauce he never came with it so we had to go get it off another table, he never came back and checked on us, and we told him we wanted dessert 20 minutes before close and brought us the menu 3 minutes before close, informing us the kitchen was about to close and they couldn't make us dessert. Then after waiting another 15 minutes he finally brought us our check. I will never go there again!

Pros: Food was yummy

Cons: Over priced, Terrible Service

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They tried to have me arrested over $5.16. I refused to pay for a dish I was unsatisfied with. Not only did the male waiter try to intimidate me but he followed me out to my car and called the police. The manager was witness to the entire incident but did nothing to intervene until the police were called. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE.

I go to little tree at least 3 times per week. It's always really great food and I LOVE the new rolls they just added to the menu.

Also, the bartender Chris is always great for help. Paul, another bartender, is always attentive as well.

Pros: Great Sushi, Lovely Servers, & FAB sushi makers!

Cons: You get too much to eat :)

I usually like Little Tree and I have met friends and family there for sushi many times. However, I had a terrible experience yesterday after not having been there for a couple of months. The sushi rolls were not rolled, the rice was thick and falling apart, the sauce was not in the roll but dabbed on the outside. Additionally, the sushi was tasteless and not appetizing. The worst part is that after having a conversation with the manager I am convinced that I will not be returning as sloppy and nasty sushi seems to be totally acceptable to serve to customers.

Pros: Sushi Fresh Excellent Rice

I used to love this place back when it was the only game in town of RO for sushi. Went back recently and had a truly horrible experience. The food was bad and inimaginative, was served almost cold. Thai food, which is so easily obtained at other places was truly awful. There are much better places around for Asian food. We'll never go back!

Little Tree has good cocktails and decent sushi, but for the price, it should be better. You usually have to wait for a table, which is fine, but the last time we were there the hostess was really young and not the best at her job, which made it a little frustrating. The servers don't always do a good job explaining the special sushi rolls and don't seem very knowledgable about the rest of the menu. I've had a hot fish dish there, which was very good, and many types of sushi. The sushi is okay but they use too much rice in the roll so the ratio of rice to filling is way off. It's pretty expensive, and I would have expected it to be better for the price. Still a pretty fun place though.

We have only been here twice, both times we have had a blast!!! My boyfriend has discovered Sushi and loves it! Me- not so much! I usually order Blackend Fish and it has been delicious both times. We sit at the bar and the bartenders are great! Can't wait to go back!!

The sushi falls apart once you pick it up, they don't use the correct type of rice for it. I know it is also a Thai, Filipino and maybe chinese restaurant? Well not all rice is made equal so you can't use Thai or Filipino rice for making a Japanese dish, especially not sushi. Just like you could not use Japanese rice to make a Thai or Filipino dish. Also, the wait was very long. I've never tried any of their Thai dishes, but I know from my boyfriend and roommate that their Filipino dishes aren't too authentic either...

Little Tree has great sushi--every roll that I have tried has been delicious, especially their daily specials. While I usually stick to the sushi bar, they also have an extensive menu of Asian-inspired fare, not to mention sake options. It's a great choice, though be prepared for a wait on the weekends.

I love Little Tree. Try the Ono or Escolar if you like straight fish, or the King Kong roll and theLittle Tree Roll are my other favorites. Excellent food, reasonably priced for what you are getting, and a fun atmosphere. It gets very busy on the weekend, but worth the wait!

We eat at Little Tree regularly. It's our answer to "what's for dinner" when we don't feel like cooking. It's not fancy, but not dumpy either. Rather a comfortable location with consistently good food. We usually eat sushi here, though their other selections of Asian food are good, too.
Though it does get busy on weekends, and you may have to wait a bit, it's worth it if you want to stay in the downtown Royal Oak area.

I live in Troy, and Little Tree is just ten minutes away. My boyfriend and I have been there a couple times on the weekends, but it gets pretty crowded a little after 6:30pm, so get there early to beat the rush. We absolutely love the Chi-Ice Tea, so definitely try it. It has a smooth sweet task and is addicting. I think they may add cocoanut milk in it to make a delicately rich and smooth flavor.

Their sushi is good, and they have an assortment of other cuisine from Thailand and possibly Korean influences. Anyways, we always get at least one veggie sushi- which I would recommend the Tofu sushi role. It is huge, but has great taste, and if you hate Tofu, you can barely taste it! Anyways, the price is moderate, especially if you come with empty stomachs, but a great place to bring friends anyways.

7/13/07 We went to Little Tree on a Friday night - and as we expected the restaurant was quite busy. The location seems to be what drives the crowds as it certainly wasn't the food. Little Tree's menu is split into 3 cuisines: Japanese, Thai and Philippino (we did not try any of the Philippino foods). My party ordered some sushi: Saba nigiri, Spicy California roll, Pickle-Radish roll, Spicy Scallop nigiri. We also ordered Tom-Yum soup and these appetizers: Tofu Pad Thai, Gyoza, Thai Spring Rolls, Agedashi-Tofu, and Beef Satay.
In a nutshell:
The nigiri was tiny: the smallest I've seen at a sushi restaurant in lower Michigan. The fish wasn't bad tasting but rather flabby/mushy in texture (improperly frozen in transit perhaps?)
They brought a regular California roll instead of spicy - it was bland and tasteless with tough sugary rice.
The Spicy Scallop nigiri was tasty.
The Tom-Yum soup was a travesty: It was Miso soup in which they stirred some thai red curry paste.
The appetizers were all bad: The Gyoza had a thick doughy/crunchy outter shell with italian-sausage flavored fatty pork on the inside. The satay was expensive and consisted of 2 thin, tough slivers of mummified beef - the peanut sauce was tasty but didn't save the sad dish. The Agedashi Tofu was the worst: tasted of used fry-oil - the batter was thick and oily, the broth tasted like tap water - very disappointing. The Thai Springrolls seems to be covered in deep-fried flour tortilla (was a bizarre wrap - not sure what it was). They were seasoned with what tasted to be southwest seasoning - the filling was mushy and bland.
Pad Thai was ok - asked for it spicy, it wasn't. Also extremely sugary/cloyingly sweet. Overall OK but not worth the $$.

Our waiter was very nice/capable, we felt bad that he was serving such awful food. The atmosphere was very "chain restaurant" - the clients loud and boisterous. Not a pleasant dining experience despite the nice service.

Great place to meet coworkers and business associates. I first visited this restaurant with a former boss, who knows good sushi, and it was one of his favorite restaurants. I was a relative newbie to the sushi experience, but absolutely loved everything he ordered for us (which was quite a bit). The waitress was very helpful (and patient) with all my questions, and very accomodating to special requests. Highly recommend for those new to Japanese cuisine.

- The food was simply edible, very bland.
- We were seated promptly, but not noticed for several minutes by our waitress, even though the restaurant was not busy.
- After taking several minutes to (finally) take our order, our waitress was overall very rude. I later called to complain and the manager would not even state that she would speak to the waitress regarding her conduct. Needless to say, I've "written-off" this restaurant.

I dont understand these bad reviews.. I have eaten at Little Tree for years, and it has remained my favorite restaurant. The service for me has never been below par, and is almost always above average- and never slow, even with a crowd.

The Thai food is different from your average dishes, but good nonetheless. The Tom Yum soup they serve is one of my favorites, even though it is different.

The Tosilog/Topsilog dish is my favorite, I recommend it to anyone who likes any sort of asian food. ^_^

The sushi I've had there has always been above average...

Sushi was fine - not the best I have had here, but not bad - a few interesting items. But service was ok the first time, atrocious the second. The noodle dishes are blase and the place is loud. Also a bit on the expensive side though not horrible.

My favorite bit was when they messed up our sushi order, then "went to check" what we had written. Funny how when I have done it at other places they always bring it back to show me .. they didn't do that here. Just assured us we had made the mistake ... should have asked to see it.

Never eat Sushi at a place that smells like fish! This is the worst sushi in metro Detroit. You are better off getting Sushi in a grocery store. It is only popular with people who like trendy area's. Go to Shilla's, Nipon Kai, Akasaka for real sushi. This place really is that bad,all of my friends who enjoy sushi agree this is not the place to go for a good let alone a great sushi meal. 5 Star locatio, 1 Star food. On AOL's guide 1/2 the posters complained of food poisoning.

The average 'Joesan' Japanese judges good sushi by the size and freshness of the fish served. It's got to be a big piece and needless to say, if it's big it better be really fresh. And sushi just means vinegar flavored rice, by the way. It doesn't even have to have fish at all let alone raw fish. No rice and it's either sashimi or something else ....

Little Tree offers a excellent choice of options. Whether eating lunch or dinner there are plenty of options. This is a great place for a business lunch, a date or with friends.

They're very helpful if you don't know what something is on the menu as well. Prices are as expected for sushi. Mid-moderate. Some dishes are pretty cheap. They offer sushi as well as full meals.

I can't believe these negative reviews!! I've been going to Little Tree since I started eating sushi a few years ago. The atmosphere is great, high ceilings and Japanese art on the walls. The staff is professional, and gets the job done (don't expect the fakey smiles and "flare" of a Friday's). The food is great, and almost as good as the sushi I've eaten in Boston and San Diego. The fish is very fresh, and they have some exotic catches like Hawaiian butter fish (the best piece of sushi I've ever eaten). I also highly recommend the yaki udon. I don't recommend most of the Thai (there are better choices for that), but as far as Sushi and the Japanese portion of the menu, this place is fantastic. I will continue to go to Little Tree whenever I'm in the area.

I tried to make a reservation for my boss for a business lunch and the person who answered the phone was incredibly RUDE! I explained to her that I would like to make reservations, and she responded that the restaurant was walk in only and hung up the phone before she finished the sentence, not to mention I did not get to ask any other questions about the restaurant. Before I called, I thought that I would consider going to Little Tree myself but not after that! Thanks to her I will never step foot in Little Tree. I guess the service reviews below were correct!

You feel welcomed and not intimidated when you enter the doors of this Nu - Asian restaurant. The decor is simple with beige, wood panelled walls with dim lighting. Their selections on the menu varies from authentic Thai, Japanese and Filipino recipies. The servers are very helpful with any questions from newcomers. I recommend their sushi which is nicely prepared and quite fresh. The entrees are exceptional. I also recommend the Leche Flan dessert surrounded by raspberry syrup and exotic fruits. This is probably one of the best Asian dining experience I have had in the Detroit area.

I recommend their sushi which is nicely prepared and quite fresh. The entrees are exceptional. I also recommend the Leche Flan dessert surrounded by raspberry syrup and exotic fruits. This is probably one of the best Asian dining experience I have had in the Detroit area.

Pros: Spacious, great selection, Reasonably prized

Cons: none

I have tried Sushi before and was unimpressed. However, after dinning at the Little Tree I am now a shushi addict. I would recomend to any one who is uneasy about trying this cuisine.

Although, there is often a bit of a wait for seating. The friendly bar staff helps to pass the time.

Little Tree is a great escape from all the crazy bars in Royal Oak. It has a great casual feel, exceptional service and who could not love sushi chef Eddie and his tasty treats. There are a few other sushi bars in the area but Little Tree is the one that keeps me coming back for more!

Sushi is one of my favorite meals and happens to be a favorite of most of my friends. I love going to the Little Tree with friends and family every chance I get. I especially like their eel rolls and their special Godzila roll. The service is always the best and the food is always well prepared and fresh. I manage to eat way more than I should every time I'm there. The crowd is fun and lively and as for Sushi Chef Eddie....he's the best!

This little gem is the perfect place to take that special someone. Sample sushi, maybe have a little sake or a sakitini (sake martinis) take some risks and have some fun. The Little Tree is an adventure and the food is phenomenal. Also, just in case sushi isn't for her, you can always order some Thai off the menu (better safe than sorry). Trust me, it's a winner.

Sushi, for quite some time, has been a mystery to me. It seems as though everyone is eating it and yet I was always afraid to try it. Recently, however, I was de-virginized to the whole sushi scene when I finally took the plunge and went to Little Tree. I obviously have nothing to compare my experience to, when it comes to sushi, but I LOVE THIS PLACE! Everything I ate, I loved. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere unmatchable (a little crowded). The entire experience was wonderful. I would highly reccommend this restaurant to anyone, especially those who are "virgins" to the whole sushi thing. The staff was more than helpful in explaining the differences in the dishes and what ones would suit my taste. I was extremely pleased with their vegetarian selections, especially. A very great restaurant all across the boards!
