I started taking my cat Moe to West Flint Animal Hospital in 1999 or 2000. Moe had crystals in his urine and had to have surgery. He became a PU kitty cat as they are called. I had to put Moe down in 2010, at the age of 13. These are our fur babies, as any pet owner knows, and this is a very emotional time. The staff was very compassionate and caring. I got hugs and tears from the staff as they had fallen in love with Moe also during the years. They love and care for your pets as if they were theirs. It is three years later and I still take my pets to West Flint. I highly recommend either Dr. Baes or Dr. Shaker to take care of your pets. I know my pets will receive excellent care from either of them. I will miss all of these great people when I move to Arizona in a few months. I only hope I can find a great place like this to take my cat to out there!

Dr. Baes...recommended a breeder for us ..we have had our wonderful Westie 10 yrs now..she had in the fall chases a flock of turkeys...the turkeys flew off she unable to walk ..tore my heart..carried her to a local vet..fearing she would be put down..he recommended back surgery and a gloomy future..I then headed to Dr. Baes as he was our previous vet...She had a torn maniscus (sp)..AND NO BACK problem..YES..keep her quiet it will take a bit to heal and a few meds and we are doing very well. She now is fine and I am beyond happy..he has always been honest to the point and beyond caring..I wish he were my "human Dr." Most sincere and trustworthy

Doctor Tom Baes has been our vet since he started his practice and we can,t say enough about him. He truly loves animals. He has always gone far out of his way to provide excellent care for all of our dogs. We know we can depend on him for honest diagnosis and treatment. We can,t recommend him enough. He is a great person and a wonderful veterinarian. There aren't enough stars below to honor Dr. baes and his staff. Our many thanks for many great years of friendship.

Dr. Baes is an amazing individual and his kind and caring ways are not saved just for the families of his patients, but is carried over to each and every pet that comes through his door. We had gotten a darling Basset Hound puppy--to help us heal from the loss of a previous Basset, who had died of old age ,[basically]. When this 2nd Basset-HOWARD was about 6 months old, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Dr. Baes was so wonderful in researching every possible way to help our poor dog . Finally it was decided that our dog would be checked by the VETS at MICHIGAN STATE in Lansing, and they put him on meds that would help his shortened life be pain free --and slow any progression of cancer. Not only was his pain non existant after treatments, but he lived to be almost 6 years old--and in fairly good health. My only concern was that we not keep him alive IF he were in any kind of pain. And he was not. And this was checked every two weeks.
This wonderful Dr. Baes won the hearts of not only myself, but my husband and our daughters as well. Even if you live on the other side of Flint - or another town even, if you love your pet and want only the VERY BEST--you don't want to miss the great opportunity of checking out this amazing quiet Doctor,w/a grandeoso heart. It could mean life and death to your beloved pet.

Dr. Baes only cares to make a dollar. He will give medication to your dog without thought to the side effects. I had to euthanzie one dog and we almost lost another do to treatment that poisoned our dogs, The cure isn't always worth the results. After doing research I found that the medicine should not have been given to older animals. At one time I thought this was a good place, but that is only when you don't really need anything beyond the general care. When I took my dog back he was very rude as well. Very uncaring that I was losing my dog. They made there money and oh well.

Dr. Baes is a GENIUS and his staff the BEST in the state!
I took our 13 yr old australian cattle dog Mac in to Dr. Baes two weeks ago after he had been tired and slow for a long time, stopped wanting to eat, was losing weight and then crawled under the deck and didn't want to come out. Knowing what that can mean I got him out and got him in. Dr. Baes didn't sugar coat anything, he told me he was anemic and dying, likely of cancer. He took some x-rays to confirm a large tumor in his belly and told me he did not see any more tumors on the x-ray but that it very probably was spreading. The only way to know for sure was to do surgery and so weak at his age may not survive the surgery anyway, giving me the option to put him down or open him up and then put him down upon confirming that it was spreading. Dr. said Mac's spleen was about to burst so if I was going to opt for surgery it had to be immediately. I felt I had to give my best friend every chance no matter how slim. I steeled myself waiting for the call, expecting the worst. After an agonizing 3 hours Dr. Baes called and said Mac was in recovery and a very lucky dog as his spleen could have burst at any minute with a non-cancerous tumor on it weighing OVER SIX POUNDS! He did not see any spreading in there and said his organs all looked good and thank goodness a spleen is not necessary to live. We got to take him home the same night and nurse him back to health with lots of medicines to build up his blood, immune system, weight, etc.. It took several days of making him take his meds but then he woke up one morning hungry as hell and today is eating me out of house and home doing just GREAT! Haven't seen him this alert and energetic in YEARS! We now call him "Miracle Mac" and could not be happier than to have a bit more quality time with him. The staff at WFAH is simply the BEST, from being so kind and consoling when it looked grim to sharing our joy and being so helpful with his recovery!
It looks like Mac and us will get to enjoy his 14th birthday this January! Great thanks to ALL at WFAH! You're the best!
Dr. Baes skill and expertise is just NOT something you see in a "neighborhood vet". It's like having the best "specialists" built into a warm and caring gentle friend and I honestly feel sorry for those who just have a "regular vet" for their pets because we have a "super vet" in Dr. Baes!

Best Vet Ever

Dr. Baes and his staff are the best. Our family have been going to Dr. Baes for many years and can find no other to replace the knowledge and loving attitude from a doctor of animal care. He is straight forward in his professional advice. Most recently he helped us save the life of our little Yorkie, Boagie. This baby was born with a clef-pallet, the deformity involved he hard and soft pallet and he 3.5oz. Dr. Baes contacted State University Small animal clinic and got a contact for us. We now have a healthy 4lb He goes above and beyond the norm and shows his love and dedication thru his actions. I have moved to the Beaverton area and still drive to Flint for Dr. Baes to attend our babies. His pricing is fair. His love is enormous. I would and do recommend him to everyone.Rose Malott, Beaverton MI

We just moved back from Hawaii, my OLD vet had a "party" to go to despite getting over twenty messages from me on his EMERGENCY line...one call to Dr. Mike and we were on our way to his office, even though they were closing at noon. We carried my Angel in and she walked out! Staff was understanding and Dr. Mike professional and caring. They obviously love the animals here and it is more than a job. Over the next several days we repeatedly called Dr. Mike and EVERY TIME he told us to come on in and helped put us at ease and made my Angel more comfortable.

I would definitely recommend this hospital and especially this vet, Michael Shaker DVM any day! We can't thank you enough for all your help.

We have gone to West Flint Animal Hospital for nearly 15 years now. The Doctors and staff are knowledgeable and great with the animals! Friendly, helpful and compassionate are just the beginning of describing the staff and their customer service. We wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Thank you West Flint Animal Hospital for all that you do to make our pets happier and healthier!

I took my dog in for a teeth cleaning and they asked if I would like his nails "cut down". I said yes, not knowing what they planned to do was cut his nails past the quick and cotorize them. When I picked up my dog he had fresh breath and his nails were no more then 1 cm in length. Not hearing his nails on the hardwood floor was nice but seeing him limp around for almost a month was painful. After that I thought all was good. Until I looked at his paws and noticed that all of his nails were hollow and that puss was coming from them, some were even bleeding still. He is constantly licking his paws and limping around. I have seen two other vets and they both say that his nails should not have been cut so short. They said to give it some time and keep an eye on them. They have grown out but they are still hollow and have been breaking off back to where the length they were cut back to. My dog will not let me touch them and has shown teeth when I try to touch his paws. He has never done this before and it hurts me to see him like this. I will never go back to the WFAH.

My family has been going to Dr. Baes for almost 25 years. They care about our pets as if they were their own. Even after my husband and I moved nearly two hours away, we make the drive knowing that this is the best care for our pets. We love you guys!

I have only had my dogs for little over a year and was referred to Dr. Baes by my sister. We were at first only looking to find a place that would "fix" them for cheap and fell in love with the service and the staff. You can tell they genuinely care about the animals and even take the time to fully explain what they;re doing and what's going to happen to my two young children!!!!

Our family vet for 25+ years, Dr Baes and co. have always been caring, compassionate, wonderful people. Born and raised in Michigan, I now live in Kentucky. I time my family visits to coincide with my dogs' needs just so I can return to Dr. Baes. It's 440 miles from my front door to his and If not for work, I'd make the drive every time I had need of a vet. It's my opinion that a better vet and a better person cannot be found.

Dr. Baes and West Flint have been our vet for over 13 years. I am a wanna be vet and an animal activist. I bring all kinds of strays to be checked and taken care of. They not only run a very professional office, they are a very caring and compassionate group of people. I also used to work for Animal Emergency Clinic. Dr. Baes' reputation and the people that work for him has always been an outstanding one.

I've been going to this vet for 9 years and love it! I've never needed an appointment for anything and they are always willing to listen to whatever problems I've been experiencing. When I had to put my cat down 5 years ago they took the clinicalness out of it all and made it so much easier to deal with.. I've never experienced anything like that anywhere else.. It's a drive for me to get to them but it's more than worth it. I know when i go there that my animals and myself will be treated with the best care they can get.

Their prices are very competitive and overall the service is generally the best compared to other local hospitals.

I had to take my dog there because he got cut by a nail. They took us in right away even though our dog had never been there before. They were very kind and gentle with him. He is a big dog so they had to hold him down firmly so they could clean it out and give him a shot. I will be taking him there for futher teatment. Very impressed.
