If you want strong technique and style definitely look into JAOD. The studio is among the top 25 studios in the country ( as ranked by dance spirit magazine ) and also hold many titles including best studio and outstanding choreography awards from competitions. As well as having the training you need to succeed in dance JAOD offers many guest choreographer opportunities and works routinely with choreographers: Dee Caspary (sytycd), Nick Bass (Adrenaline,JT backup dancer), Caroline Lewis-Jones (adrenaline), Chris Jacobson, (adrenaline), Brooke Peroitti (24/7 Dance) and many more. The studio offers yearly scholarships to dancers and goes to many conventions such ash WCDE, Jump, Adrenaline, Tremaine, Hollywood Vibe and LA Dance Magic. JAOD alumni have succeeded in their professional dance careers and continue to perform in broadway shows such as Wicked, Billy Elliot, Newsies and Cats, as well as dancing on cruise ships and in the Radio City Rockettes. JAODs staff is all very supportive and easy to work with. There is no favoritism at the studio and you audition to get into dances. The classes are intense and you are sometimes pushed to the limit. The teams at JAOD are all very friendly and outgoing. They all get along very well and enjoy each others talent and company. I highly recommend JAOD.

As far as all these comments about drama goes
i can assure you that there is no drama at the studio and hasnt been for quite some time. Mr. Mike and Ms Julie are the most supportive teachers i have ever had. They treat everyone fairly and with respect.

This studio has earned it's negative reputation regarding their treatment of both students and parents. Clearly there are many talented instructors and students there, but positive support and instruction is far from a consistent experience. Students and parents who have experienced a chaotic environment, lack of professionalism, divisiveness, harsh or rude treatment, or even a total disregard for the development of talent and well-being of their children have found far more positive, caring instruction and affirmation of their talents elsewhere.

If you love your child do not enroll at this studio. The owner will take you money; she will cause trouble between children playing one child against the other. She makes your child dance even when vomiting with the stomach flu. Not a safe environment for children. Highly recommend NOT to enroll.. Rip off. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

I read these past posts and I must say I am sick to my stomach. Some of these people are obviously off there meds. Yes have there been some crazy parents and I mean CRAZY parents at this studio in the past but thank god they are gone and never coming back. As for the owner and director. She is one of the most loving and caring people you would ever meet. She gives away so many free lessons to kids that would not be dancing if it was not for her. But no one knows that because she does not pat herself on the back. For anyone to slander her good name is just sick and wrong. If you had any character or spine you would make these statements using your real name and not some made up name. You will not find another studio that will give you all you will get for the price you pay. This studio is a class act and in a league all of its own. Please do not slander a persons good name and business if you can not back it up.

Juliana's Academy of Dance has SOME very good points--when its good she is very very good but when she is bad it's HORRID. Behaviors toward children can be borderline abusive or psychologically damaging. Warmth and generosity are possible but sporadic and arbitrary. Perhaps the accurate but painful to hear feedback will have a positive affect and the "old school" negative behaviors will simmer down or perhaps retire so the studio can live up to its full potential. Parents should evaluate carefully what is important to them in an environment where their children will be spending a great deal of time. Yes, there are fabulous teachers here and the facilities are fabulous BUT this is not a stable healthy place today. However, the training is very good.

I switched to this studio and immediately improved, I improved more at this studio in 6 months than I did in 3 years at my old studio. I sincerely believe that this is the best studio in Michigan. (also ranked #3 in Nation) The staff are amazing, Miss V is the best ballet instructor I have ever taken class from. Mr. Mike is also an amazing choreographer and teacher. Miss Julie is kind of old-school, but she is the most generous and caring person I have ever meant. I drove an hour and a half 5 days a week to dance at this studio, and I have no regrets. If you notice, every single dancer there is well-rounded and has good technique. The studio itself is an amazing facility, the main room is over 3000sq ft. its absolutely beautiful. As for the drama being in some of the reviews, I never noticed it. I came from a studio where the instructor played favorites and was unfair. So when I switched to JAOD it was a culture shock. They are professional and caring people. It really is like belonging to a family, all of the dancers get along and really rely on eachother to pull all of the dances together. I also like how Miss Julie doesnt make friends with the parents (or suck up to them), its not her job to be your friend, its her job to make sure your child is a beautiful dancer. They are very well priced as well. You just pay tuition and are enrolled in as many dances as they put you in, its awesome. They also welcome all dancers to their technique classes (weather you dance there or not) its a great way to see if you want to switch studios, or if you just need a great workout! My senior year I had an injury and could not dance, I was heartbroken. Miss Julie was so caring and included me in everything. She even gave me the "dancer of the year" award at the recital. I truley love this studio and hope that my children can dance there one day. As for the costumes being risque, the judges want to see your lower back and tummy to make sure you have correct technique and your legs to make sure they are stretched. They are tastfully done. I promise that you will be impressed with Juliana's, theres no doubt about it. Fantastic Studio.
Please be advised- this studio is for serious dancers looking to make a career out of dance. They are strict and keep the dancers in line you wont get away with rolling your eyes at the teachers or being lazy in class. If you just want a crappy studio to play around in and take a weekly hip hop class this is not it.

Unfortunately, the DRAMA and unstable adult behavior is outweighing the good technique training that has been offered in the past. Check out your facts carefully before you put your child's future in the hands of this studio--regretfully must concur with the specifics in the JAD M. spot on assessment. Very sad but true.

The technique training is very good and most of the teachers are good with their students but it is not always the healthiest place for kids. Children are in one minute and out the next. Owner pits children against each other, is highly unprofessional and feeds on & engages in gossip and drama about children & parents. Private information about teachers, students and families are inappropriately shared. Owner complains about not making enough money and is constantly gauging her clients with new fees and increases. Asking questions can get you in trouble. Getting phone calls returned is difficult. Office staff can be very rude. Unstable environment--you never know what you will get when you walk into the studio. If you can survive the irradic behavior & drama your kids will learn how to dance here. There are more stable, warm and healthy studios that have good technique out there. Dances, music and costumes are getting more risque and inappropriate.

Great technique. If you are looking to learn how to dance, not just learn a dance routine, this is the place. The staff is amazing. I would recommend to everyone.

The dancers here are wonderful. I have only had good experiences with the dancers from this studio. If you want your child to get excellent training this would be the place to go too.

very thorough dance studio. the instructors here are really into helping their clients learn the art of dance. whether its ballet, tap or any other kind of dance, they are very professional in their instructions. they have a lot of patience with the very young kids (and older kids too lol). I love this place and recommend it to any parent looking for a great place for their child to learn dance.
