I'm branching out from the standard selection of yarns you find at Jo-Ann or Michael's. On my first visit recently, found that the folks at Flying Sheep to be very friendly, welcoming and helpful to the person who isn't an expert at knitting or about yarns. I liked the selection of yarns, too. I will definitely be back.

Flying Sheep is tucked away in an often over looked shopping center. Venture in and you'll find a decent selection of yarn, helpful staff, and a variety of intimate classes. Since it's a small store, Flying Sheep is more expensive than most chain craft stores. But Flying Sheep also carries different and high quality yarns, needles, kits, and books.

This shop is fairly easy to find just south of the University of Michigan's Athletic Campus. It has a wide variety of yarns and accessories, and the employees have a wide breadth of knowledge about yarn and yarn crafts. The prices are slightly more expensive than chain stores, but the quality of yarn in most cases is better, and you are paying for the atmosphere and assistance.

Flying Sheep Yarns carries a great selection of yarns, and as a fiber artist, its a great resource. Most of the prices are a bit higher then the average retail price. I tend to be a little eccentric in appearance, and one of the ladies at this shop seems to be biased towards more conservative shoppers. I dont appreciate going into a store and being watched as if Im going to steal something. The other woman that works there (perhaps the owner?) is never anything but incredibly friendly!

Flyins Sheep is a really neat shop. They offar a much more personalized shopping experience than any chain store. They carry more of the specialty yarns that ar available now and have several differnet projects in the store to shwo you how you can use them. If you sign up for their mailing list, they will also send you coupons and advance notice of sales. Their prices are higher than the chain stores in the area so I don't shop there for basics, but for any speciatly type item, they are the place to go.

PROS: great selection, helpful staff
CONS: expensive
