Raven is a fantastic artist, I got a portrait of my father done by her earlier this year, my first tattoo ever, and she blew my away with the detail/shading and how real she made it look. Every person that asks me where they should get their next/first tattoo I recommend her.

Raven can do the impossible, and humbly calls it "a normal day's work".

I have had a bad tattoo for years, only partially done and rather crude. Raven finished the concept well beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and covered the original in such a way that it is completely hidden by the new work.

For over a decade I never went without a shirt, as the previous work was a terrible embarrassment. Once Raven was finished with the cover up, I find excuses to take my shirt off. I am a rather conservative person when it comes to showing skin, so this is a major change for me.

I was originally thinking black and grey work, but she carefully and thoughtfully explained how some color could bring the piece to life more than the same image in black-work could ever do. She even went so far as to do the artwork both ways for me to look at and think on for a time before I was to get the final work done.

We have designing a new piece that I had conceived of 25 years ago, but I believed that it simply could not be done in skin. And trust me, I looked and asked. Every other tattoo artist I spoke to either said it could not be done, or would have to be simplified and severely modified, which I did not want to do. After she did my cover-up work, I was looking through her photo books, and saw something similar to what I had envisioned.

My life had changed in 25 years, and I am glad I waited. She has expanded on my original idea, incorporating more aspects of my life and my journey through it into the new work. (all of my tattoos are very symbolic to parts of my life - this one even more so).

Her humble opinion of her abilities is amazing: this woman can make a tattoo look like anything from airbrush work to something that actually grew in your skin, as well as the "normal" tattoo styles. I have no interest in "flash" tattoos, and am completely amazed that she does not charge for design work (I think, it has been a while), as each tattoo I have ever seen from her has been a one of a kind, original art piece equal or exceeding anything I have ever seen on canvas in any world class art gallery.

After watching my work being done, my wife (who is terrified by needles, and never though she *could* get a tattoo) decided to get two small ones. Raven's "bedside manner" was completely amazing. She assuaged my wife's fears, and with her light touch, was able to tattoo both amazing works of art without my wife's phobia being a problem. Their character, grace and poise are amazing; each tattoo fits on her body like she was born with them, and very few people believe that they are actually tattoos, as they are so delicate and almost airbrush looking.

Her shop is comfortable; the waiting area is more like a social lounge or a good friend's den than a hospital waiting room. Her studio proper is clean, and has several of her large paintings on display so you can get a grasp of what this woman can do on canvas as well as skin. Her safety measures exceed most hospitals I have been in.

There are many other tattoo "artists" around this region who simply will take your money, and whip the same tiger everyone else has on your arm. This is not the case with Raven. Several times I have been there she was working to repair the inferior work of one of these "ink mills", always without a condescending word about the original "artist". A few times when I arrived, she was covering up another awful tattoo (like my previous one, or worse) or the name of someone the person had changed their mind about since the name had been tattooed. And unlike many other "artists", her cover up work is not a massive blotch of black with something on the edge. She makes previous ink simply disappear, and I can not explain how! It just doesn't seem possible on my piece, but none of the original shows at all. Like magic!

She has ethics and morals, something I have often not seen in the rest of the tattoo world, and for that I am thankful. A good, community minded artist like Raven can do a lot to undo the stigma many other tattoo "artists" have caused on tattooists, and those of us with ink in the skin.

Just so you are aware, people are finding out how good she is. The studio is often booked out months in advance, and cancellations are understandably rare. She is severely under-priced for her ability. Her hourly rates are lower than most regional "ink mills" and her quality and ability are far superior. And she is comparatively fast, so an hour fills quite a bit of skin with art.

In closing: Raven's touch is so light, and her ability with a tattoo machine beyond anything I have ever seen anywhere else in my travels that I simply will never go to another tattoo artist again. And I strongly encourage all my friends and family to do the same.

PROS: Art that "can't" be done, she does daily. Very light touch, great person.
CONS: I did not find her 25 years ago. My fault, not hers.

In 1997 a GREAT and WONDEROUS thing happened to the town of Otseg. TattoosByRaven came here. And since that time she has made more than a difference not ONLY in MY life but also HUNDEREDS of others too. I have recieved several pieces from her and everyone of them is great and perfect. AT a PRICE that is right. SOME may think her prices are high check around and see and YOU will see that her prices are WAY BELOW from what she SHOULD charge. NOT only does she do GREAT and beautiful pieces but also her shop is kept VERY CLEAN. SHE is ONE OF THE CLEANEST shops I HAVE EVER BEEN IN. AND to set the record straight THERE ARE NOO BIRDS THAT ARE FLYING AROUND EITHER. Where that lie came from I don't know but it's also called slander. The people that come to raven will leave knowing that the piece they got or soon will get will be one that will last the life time. She does request a 20.oo deposite WHICH is NOT alot to ask when she is soo wanted. AND if YOU call in 24 your money will be returned. Raven brings the art that I am seeing in MY head and puts on paper NOW how many artist can do that and IF YOU seen her work YOU WOULD know that she NOT only cares of her OWN WORK but also the person themselves HOW MANY SHOPS ARE THAT WAY?? Long Story short Raven to ME is the greatest I have that right to say for it's MY OPINON. AT least she don't claim to BE the GREATEST like SOME OTHER artists I know.... And she is honest and respects all being no matter who YOU are...

PROS: VERY CLEAN, GREAT ATMOSPHERE,ONE OF A KIND
CONS: HHhmmmmm Can't think of nothing there WONDER WHY....

Both myself and my husband have been going to Raven for at least 5 years. There has never been a time when we were given bad advice or had the feeling that she was nothing less than a accomplished artist.
We have had many, many compliments on her work, many people wanting to take pictures of myself and husband just to copy, That would never happen,Raven created out tattoos for us and us only.
We live in the Florida Keys and travel to Michigan to have another "Masterpiece" created. she's the best!!!!! There is not a more caring person around, she care about her clients.
Again, Great tattoos Raven, keep up the good work. Paul and Diane

PROS: She's the BEST!!!!!
CONS: None

I cant say enough good about Raven, the studio or her artwork. The prices are the most reasonable in the region and she only charges for the time she is putting ink into your skin. My own tattoo at other places would have cost me thousands of dollars more than I have spent with Raven. She is nationally known for her work and I have been in the studio when people have been there who traveled from Chicago and Detroit for her work. A very clean environment, all the needles are individually bagged and dated and you see her open fresh needles for you. Raven also has a very delicate touch. My tattoos have felt like nothing more than a sunburn. Raven also has a strong professional decorum. Most of us have or will have mundane jobs, she wil not risk your lively hood by putting something accrost your lower arm or neck where you cant hide it if you want to. And she wont put a name on you unless its a relative. People come into her shop every day to do a cover up on a name of an ex, she wont risk putting someone in that same position. If you want something dealing with racial hatred this is not the artist for you and she will turn you away.
Some pointers if this will be your first visit to Ravens. Have an idea of what and where you want your art. Raven is in high demand so call ahead first, don?t be surprised if your appointment is in several months. To secure your apt time stop in and leave a deposit. Time is money and Raven is very busy. When you show up for your that money is rolled into how much your art work costs. If you?re a no show, no call you wont get your deposit back. If you don?t show and want your deposit back, you must call before your appointment time and reschedule or tell them you?ve had a change of heart. Tattoos aren?t for every one and they understand and if they can rebook the time they will refund you. Raven is very in demand and usually has people waiting for cancelations. Be clean when you show up. Its amazing how many people will show up who haven?t even taken a shower.

PROS: Best art in region, clean atmosphere, comfortable enviornment.
CONS: In demand artist, may have to wait a month or two for an apt

I have had nothing but great experiences at all appointments. She combines ethics and beauty to allow all to display their spiritual body in the artwork she places on your physical body. I have been to other studios, and will never go to any other but Raven again. She has the magickal ability to take the picture that is in your mind and put it to paper, in turn to your skin. She is a muse, inspiring all who come in contact with her to push themselves to higher understandings and levels of creativity. There will never be another like this artist. And any who choose to get their body work done anywhere else are not making an informed decision. The rates are very reasonable for the outstanding artwork you will receive. You will never feel so at home at any other studio as you do here. They make sure that YOU, the customer, are completely satisfied with any design before it is even started on your skin. Want a tattoo you might regret later? Don't go here. Want an amazing experience, with a world class artist? Want the most wonderful tattoo you could ever imagine? Make sure to get yourself an appointment. She isn't booked out so far for no reason. You will be amazed at what you walk away with. Thank you Raven. You are the BEST!!!

By the way, any who give this shop a bad review, are not worthy of her services. If you want things done that are not ethical or appropriate, and do not agree with her ethics/"rules", go elsewhere. She doesn't need your business that bad to compromise her ethics. There are plenty of other dirty shops that have no respect for anything, will do whatever you ask and take your money, and send you on your way. If that is what you want, GO THERE! DO NOT slander a business for being ethical, just because you have no sense of ethics. Her studio is not dirty, the birds are well cared for and a part of her family. Respect that. If you have a problem with tattoo fading, keep it out of the sun! She offers free touch-ups on all of her work, so there is no room to complain there! Schedule a touch-up appt. and shut up!And RUDE??? No. HONEST . There is a difference. It is only rude to those that are not honest or those that have no sense of what it means to be a realist. I personally thank them for that, for it has stopped me from making a lot of bad decisions. KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU FOR THAT!!!!

PROS: Professional, ethical, intelligent artist
CONS: NONE

Well now it seems there are people who get upset when they don't get to get one stop shopping.. LOL. I have been to Ravens many times and received honest service. I can live with Real Art and the rules it takes to get it. I like rules..They have reasons for them at Ravens. I have been all over the world and I found her Body Art to be one of the best..That is why you have to wait for an appointment. I have many hours over many years of Tattoos done by Raven. I have never had a tattoo fade out. All my tattoo's are covered if needed by a short sleeve shirt. Raven cares about her art. The birds are great. The place is kept clean. I have never been treat rude..Just honest replies when asking things.. I guess people can be considered rude if they don't agree with your view's I can live with that..Its called respecting others opinion's and I will treat you like you treat me. But if you want good body art and rules also..Go to Raven's or choose to go to another that does not have rules but just takes your money and runs you threw the ink mill.. They brand people like cattle also out in the southwest if you desire.. I was thinking what it would be like if they had a big brand that burned the capital letter L on your forehead.. I think I would love my son or daughter to have that done with no rules.. emmmm Chuck. P.S. Keep up the good work Raven.. Thanks for the Body Art.. I am so proud to have it.

PROS: Can create any art you desire.
CONS: There should be more of her working.. But alas there is only one.

I'd like to comment on another review left for this shop. Our birds are almost never out of their cage. I regret that they were out when a client was there. I do have restrictions of my own, that I won't tattoo someone in an exceptionally public spot (i.e. neck, face, lower arm) because I'm crazy enough to care about strangers. Like it or not, these public displays of inkwork, can limit your employability. Once someone has a public tattoo, I have no problem with adding to their collection. There are plenty of studios that will assist you with those initial ventures into public ink. I choose not too for 100 reasons that it's tough to explain in this format (ie this website). I still have faith in a persons potential. A tattoo is a moments emotion captured in the skin forever. I was once offered $666 if I would tattoo 666 on a guys forhead. I turned that job down too. Yes, we do require a $20 deposit, but it is refundable with 24 notice that you don't want your appointment so we may call one of the many people that would like a sooner appointment. We also try to call and remind you of your appointment, and you can let us know then if something has come up, or if you change your mind. We are very inexpensive for a professional shop. You can get a tattoo cheaper from someones kitchen, but that's to be expected. True, we don't do spouses and boyfriends names. I do kids names, mothers, fathers, everything else... because I cover up boyfriends and spouse every week. Again, there are many other studios that do whatever you want. What I also do is "one of a kind" designs, totally custom, totally creative (when given a chance).

PROS: Custom, original, creative, ... single use needles, autoclave sterilization
CONS: usually booked out a couple months cause we offer unique & affordable

My husband and I went there and my husband got a tattoo, It has faded awful! Her prices are outragest and her place is smoky and dirty. She has birds in her shop, and they are always flying around, which is not sanitary or clean. There are feathers flying all over. Her husband who also works with her is rude, and they make you pay a $20 deposit, for your appt. If you do not come in they keep your money! Is it not are right to change our mind whether we want them to do the tattoos. She also has retrictions on the places she will put the tattoos, and doesnt do names! Is it are right to have whatever we want on us and where ever body part we want. She wont do the neck, the forarm, the head, hand, top of feet ect. This shouls be are choice not hers!. I also had a friend go there and she is very heavy and she told her that she wont tattoo her cause she is FAT and maight in some time lose her weight!

PROS:
CONS: Dirty, Smoking, and RUDE!
