I brought my dog to Wag'N' Tails for several years. Over time, I noticed that there was a big turn over in employees. My dog began to cry when I left him there. I have a small dog who was overpowered by larger dogs and at times - bumped into and hurt by the larger dogs. Sad to say - I've decided to go elsewhere.

Ratings_icons Fabulous place for doggy day care.

Sandy D.

Our cockier spaniel, Abby attended 6 different classes and spent many days at doggy day care. It was a great experience for me and my over zealous cockier spaniel. I feel very comfortable knowing she is always well cared for and the staff maintains training techniques while in their care. I would highly recommend this facility for your pet. They come home exhausted and happy. The classes helped me as well as my dog in maintaining positive training techniques and understanding who's the master.

Ratings_icons Our Kind of Place!!!

Our German Shepherd, Sasha, has been coming to Wag 'N' Tails for 5 years. I have seen this business grow and develop to what it is today and we love it. She only goes twice a month, but let me tell you she is extremely excited as soon as we pull into the parking lot and can't wait to see the staff and play with her friends. The employees are very good about separating the dogs into the correct play groups. Not every dog is suited to play together due to their temperaments and/or breeds and they RECOGNIZE this and adjust accordingly!! This doesn't just mean one room for small dogs and one room for larger dogs. They break it down more than that. Downstairs is for playing and upstairs is for their quiet/nap times. They are like kids, they needs breaks also. It is a very clean facility also. In our 5 years, we have never had any health issues. Our years here have consisted of daycare and training. Their trainers are the best! Can't say enough about Donna and Patti!! They are VERY knowledgeable and I believe you won't find anyone better then them (my dog whispers)! I believe that the staff knows my dog's traits and personalities very well (sometimes better than me) and totally trust them when I leave her in their care. This staff is well trained (not just hired but trained) by their owner who takes pride in her business and cares about her clients. I have checked other facilities and was not impressed. All pet owners who are looking into a dog activity center must check out Wag 'N' Tails!!

Ratings_icons THE FINANCIAL/OVERALL BREAK DOWN

joe e.

for some reason my review was flagged as inappropriate (hmmm i wonder by whom?), but here it is again...
Its clear a lot of these reviews are written by the owner of this dog daycare... and its not very helpful when I am trying to evaluate the best place for my pup and me financially... Here is the break down from one who has looked all over the detroit metro area for a boarding and daycare place for me dog.... Wag N Tails is a nice place, BUT its clear how much the owner is abusing the customers with her prices... the amount I have to pay just to send my dog there for a 2-3 day weekend is well over $100.00, which is too rich for my blood... Just to drop my dog off for the day to play costs me $27.00 per day... Aside from the financial aspect, I have yet to see my dog being played with there, there than just being put in a room with other pups... The biggest problem I had with their facility was the area which i wasn't shown in the tour, the very area one employee let me go and see my dog one day (upstairs in a cage) did not represent the external beauty of the grounds...
So here is how I broke it down... The best and most affordable place to board your dog is at "play and stay" in troy... or even "doggie in a window" in madison heights... Both of those are affordable, not to mention have consistent hours and a large window (6-11) to pick up your dog 7 days a week... Petsmart Pet Hotel even has ok rates for daycare... If Wag N Tails had more competitive prices, I would honestly be rooting for them, but I can't consider them seriously until they work with the community, especially in this horrible economy...
And I would also like to note that I am a prior customer, not a prior employee, as accusations were made to someone else's comments earlier
ITS ALSO INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT 35 OF THE 45 POSITIVE (5STAR) REVIEWS FOR THIS PLACE WERE ALL WRITTEN ON JAN 1st, 2005...

THE OWNER (or someone) ISN'T TRYING TO PULL A FAST ONE ON US IS SHE?

I have two beautiful big dogs that love to come to wag n tails. They can get their baths, have play dates, and even have sleepovers. They have a WONDERFUL TRAINING PROGRAM. My kids have taken the dogs to kids kamp so they can learn how much fun it is to treat animals responsibly.

Ratings_icons What every pet parent needs

I have been taking my dog to Wag 'N Tails for several years now. I started out looking for a place to board my dog, and found a place he frequents for doggy social interaction. He loves it! He spends a couple days a week at the activity center; playing with the other dogs and staying socialized. When he comes home, he is absolutely exhausted from playing all day. He is one happy, healthy, social dog and his visits to Wag 'N Tails keeps him that way. It is like his second home. When I travel and need to leave him there, he doesn't even seem to care. Sure he's happy when I go to pick him up. . . but he gives me the same response when I leave him for 5 minutes too! I would recommend Wag 'N Tails to my friends, and have on numerous occasions. They also love the attention and care their pets receive. The only downside, it can get costly -- though not beyond what I would expect in wanting the best for my pet.

Although the "kennel cough" post was made by a disgruntled, terminated employee, we would like to take the opportunity to educate the public about kennel cough in boarding and daycare settings.

It is true, that we had 4 confirmed cases of kennel cough over the holiday boarding in 2008. Kennel cough is a contagious upper respiratory infection, very much like a human cold.

Any facility can have kennel cough and the emergence of this condition is not a reflection on the cleanliness or care of the business. What matters most is how the issue is handled and how the pets' needs are met.

Always honest and up front with our clients, we immediately notified our clients with a letter and verbally at check in and check out.

Wag 'N' Tails took extreme measures to ensure the health and safety of our guests. All exposed dogs were separated and on two occasions, we had veterinarians from Wilson Veterinary Hospital come to our facility to make sure that we were doing all that we could to keep our guests happy and healthy.

All of this was done at no expense to our clients.

The "dog cold" was contained, and the effected dogs recovered without incident. We had a large number of guests staying with us over that holiday and all of them had a safe, fun, educational and comfortable stay.

Please feel free to call us anytime for more information, or stop in for a tour at your convenience!

Ratings_icons Kennel Cough at Wag N Tails, Shelby Twp. Michigan

I was working at Wag N Tails until March of 2008. In February many of the dogs that were both boarding and coming for daycare came down with kennel cough. Just wanted to let the public know.

Ratings_icons Wag N Tails - Dog training and boarding

Sue E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,284

Wag N Tails offers a neat pet training class for children and their dog. My son and I took our sheltie there for the class, and it was a big success. The dog used to be very leary of children, especially my son, now she comes to him whenever he calls and climbs into his lap and licks him. Before, he wouldn't go near her.

The trainer offers higher level "real" dog obedience classes as well, but the kids one is to teach a dog that the child is part of the family and to get the dog used to obeying the child. They also did an arts and crafts project the last day where kids could make a tshirt with the dog's paw prints on it.

This place is also a boarding kennel, so if you are going out of town, you can try this place. They also offer babysitting during the day for those who can't bear to leave their dog home alone.

The shop is buried in an industrial plaza, kind of hard to find and what seems like an unlikely place, But the trainers are very good and my son and dog both loved their class.

PROS: Training worked, friendly environment
CONS: Weird location, boarding can get expensive
