Always higher priced than other nurseries, which would be outweighed by a good selection and helpful staff. Bordines has a pricey, but wide and interesting variety of plants.

I agree with above comments regarding staff training. Unfortunately, the "helpful staff" aspect of Bordine's is very uneven. Some individuals are knowledgable and take time to provide good guidance. However, others are really substandard in both knowledge and courtesy - even by discount store (i.e. Meijers, K-Mart) standards, much less an "upscale" merchant. Those of us that are willing to pay a little more to support Michigan companies will not pay extra for poor customer service.

In my opinion, Bordines is like a focal point of Rochester. Driving past the store, you see nothing but beautiful flowers for acres and acres. It's the kinda place that you just want to go into and touch everything. But...then you get into the store.. DOn't get me wrong, everyting is still gorgeous and they have a very high quality plant selection, and tons and tons of varieties, I just think that their prices are high and you aren't getting anything better than you would get if you went down the street another mile out of town. I wasn't impressed with the friendliness of the staff, but when I finally got someone to help me, she was very knowlegdeable. I went in to basically look around and that is what I did, because flats of flowers were $5-$6 more tahn they were everywhere else.

Bordine's Nursery has the best selection of commonly used nursery plants and their prices are comparable to other large nurseries. Their plants are always in excellent shape, unlike big box store garden centers. They have a large selection of shade and water plants plus sample gardens around the property so you can get ideas. If you don't want to pay the price of a full-grown ready-to-bloom perennial, they carry small sizes at a lower price and the ones I've bought usually bloom the first year, just later in the season. One thing that they do that other places don't is that they put up signs warning you if the temperatures are still too cold to plant certain bedding plants and vegetables so you know if buy them, you'll have to keep them indoors for a while.

PROS: excellent selection; plants well cared for
CONS: very crowded lot during peak season; parking may be hard to find

The best thing about Bordine's in Rochester Hills is the lovely acreage with all the plants displays. You could spend hours admiring all the various plants and planning your garden. The plants are good quality and obviously well cared for. Each plant and its department are meticulously labeled with its name and suggestions for placement and care. I agree with a previous reviewer that the price is a bit high but you pay for quality plants. Stop in the department with the patio furniture and check out the unique accessories. I have to say the service has only been so-so and has room for improvement.

The quantity of products available is high but nothing is special about their displays. The prices are steep. The staff gives adequate but not too friendly service
