I am a regular at the tea room and I can say 9 times out of 10 the owner is very rude! It's almost comical how absolutely crabby she can be. There are so many times my friends and I swear we'll NEVER return. But we can't help but crave the delicious tea they serve. The food is mediocre. There are many times we've called each other, after going there, to share the latest story of how we bothered her by giving her business. We're a glutton for punishment.

Wow, I don't know why there are bad reviews of the service. I've been a regular customer since they opened years ago and have always been delighted with the service, food and tea. The Four Seasons is a treasure to me because they offer something far different than the same tired old fare of all the other restaurants in the area. The atmosphere alone is exceptional and worth a visit. Everything has the character of a true and classic English tea room. The food, too, is incredible; worth savoring slowly with a cup of real brewed tea.
As far as the bad reviews, I suspect one angry person or group collectively wrote in. Having worked in food service I have to keep in mind two things: One, some people can't be satisfied and, two, it is impossible not to sometimes get a bit exasperated with customers, especially when you're having a bad day.

Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

the tea here is good, but the service is terrible. If you want to be treated bad then this is the place to go. The owner is rude and you feel guilty even bothering her to get seated. I have been there many times and so have my friends. It is rare that you have a time that your not treated like a bother to them. I feel sorry for the waitresses that have to deal with this owner. I have seen them get berated in front of customers. food is okay, tea is good, service is horrible

Hard bars, awful service, what else can be said. The owner should be ashamed. Staff is rude, arrogant, snobbish, and just plain ole ill-mannered. For the price you pay for a cup of tea, which is great, your better off buying the tea and brewing at home. I can't believe this is a business on the U.P.! Do not judge the town by this business. You will find others much more appreciative of your business.

Worst dining experience of my life. I have never gone into an establishment intending to spend money and left feeling like I just paid someone to be rude to me. The service was slow, the management was downright rude, and the food was average.

They act like they are the fanciest tea room in France, yet they serve you hard peanut butter bars and water in cheap WalMart glasses. If I want peanut butter bars I can make them myself, and better, at home. If I go out to eat and pay $23 for a tray of sandwiches and bars, I at least expect good quality desserts and pastries. Instead the desserts resembled something you would find in a plastic container at a supermarket.

Will never return, and I am telling my friends.

I agree that the owner of the Four Seasons Tea room is rude. I had an experience earlier today that will keep me from ever returning. My girlfriend offered to buy me lunch at the tea room, which was great as it's generally a relaxing place to sit and talk . My girlfriend and I had ordered a full afternoon tea for two. The tea was good, the first course was pretty good. After the first course we waited. And waited. Thirty minutes after we had finished, the owner finally brought out the three-tiered tray. At this point, we really needed to get back to work. My girlfriend asked for a box. The owner replied, "You tell me now." Rude, not to mention that no one had actually been to our table in a half hour. I replied to her, "We have been waiting for a half hour since we finished our first course." She stormed back to the kitchen.

When she came back with the food in foil, she snapped at us, "You really need to tell us if you want your lunch in a hurry." My jaw dropped, we had been there over an hour. She then said, "Really, we are more than willing to accommodate if you just tell us ahead of time." I left rather than make a scene. My girlfriend stayed to pay for the meal and sadly had to face more berating from the owner. I will not be back. No one in their right mind would pay to be treated in such a way.

When I lived in Houghton, I used to occasionally visit this restaurant. It is very quant; they have a live harpist, nice sandwiches and custom teas which one can sample.

So, my spouse and I were recently in Houghton to attend a wedding, and some of our old friends really wanted to meet there.

When we arrived, I walked back to see where my friends were sitting and their table was full. No biggy; I went back up to the front to enquire about another table and the owner told us there was no room right now and asked that we make a reservation for later. We were running out of time, so we decided to go to another restaurant for lunch.

I asked my spouse and friends to go on ahead and I would meet them as I wanted to buy a few bags of custom tea which I enjoy. The owner seemed to disappear and none of the waitstaff could be troubled to let me support their business by buying a few bags of tea. So, I waited for awhile and then gave up and finally left.

When I met my spouse at the other restaurant, he mentioned that the owner had been very rude, and made snotty remarks about me for daring to walk into her little tea room without checking in. - something like "I wish someone would tell me where they think they're going" and "Well..I guess school must be back in session".

It's kind of wierd to have been treated like that. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to have a good Houghton experience. Most business owners in Houghton are very pleasant and do not treat potential customers this way.

The Four Seasons Tea Room in Houghton, MI is a great place to eat, especially if you like to step back in time. The food is always delicious, the teas are wonderful, and the atmosphere is so relaxing and fun. (Try on a hat if you want!) My friends and I always celebrate our birthdays at the Tea Room... in fact, I just moved far away and sent a gift certificate to one of my girlfriends for her birthday...if I can't be there to help her celebrate, at least she can go to our favorite Tea Room. Don't miss a great experience - stop by the Four Seasons Tea Room the next time you are in the Keweenaw.

Looking for a quaint little place to relax and enjoy the company of your significant other or just your girlfriends? This has to be the cutest little tea room to visit. Wonderful service, delicious pastries and petite finger foods. Would love to go here everyday to rejunivate! Highly Recommended!! On the downside, it is expensive for what you get out of it... Pastries and sandwiches are delicious but I believe a fraction of the cost is paying for the elegant decor/atmosphere. Tea time is anytime here but especially observed at "special" times as well. I wouldn't bring children here. Take a treat home for them instead! ;)

PROS: Amazing food, beatiful decor
CONS: price, limited parking
