.

I chose Plymouth Plumbing to repair a shutoff valve because they would schedule a specific appointment time and quoted what seemed to be a reasonable price ($80 an hour plus parts). Unfortunately, they failed to come through in both categories.

1. The plumber called at our scheduled appointment time (after I had already taken time off of work) to inform me he had a more urgent (e.g. profitable) call and I would have to be rescheduled. So much for scheduling appointments, but at least he called.

2. When he came out for the rescheduled visit- he damaged a drain valve during the repair and chose to cap it instead of properly repairing his mistake.

3. He was finished after 45 minutes in the house and announced a bill of $175!!! He acted insulted when I asked for a breakdown of the parts and labor but reluctantly wrote one up. I was being charged $65 for a valve I later found on Amazon for $30 (his price would be considerably less with a bulk discount). I was also being charged $10 for flux and solder! He surely used only pennies worth of these consumables during my repair. I was also being charged $10 for the cap used to fix the plumber??s mistake mentioned above and another $10 for some misc 2?copper piece worth about $1. My math says he was charging $95 for about $25 in parts. Fortunately, I wasn??t charged for the butane he used in his torch. He must have forgotten.

I don??t have a lot of experience with professional service companies, so maybe these are very common practices. Regardless, I feel they misrepresented their fee structure by not disclosing that ??parts? in ??parts and labor? means they can charge whatever they want for the items they use during a repair up to a 10x markup. I believe up to 50% is reasonable, but 400% is simply outrageous.

I caution others to make sure you understand all charges when dealing with this company.

We recently had an "incident" and needed emergency help and PP&SS did a great job coming out immediately and fixing up our problem. The guy was quiet, didnt try to sit and chat or anything and he did a very fast fix-it. We were very impressed. They're called "Plymouth Plumbing" but note that they are IN Canton.

PROS: Fast, efficient
CONS:
