I had a clogged kitchen sink. When I pulled it apart I noticed the sewer drain had corroded. I called Blessing to get an opinion on if the pipe could be salvaged.
Long story short: guy shows up and takes a peak. Then he proceeds on doing a 45 minute hard sell on their $7.95 a month (or $95 cash) service plan, and how it would benefit my furnace (new), hot water heater (just flushed, nice and hot), and every other heat and water related part of my home. And I got detailed stories of Mr. Jones and Mrs. Smith, and how, without him, their washer hoses and drier vents would have led to something on the level of the apocolypse.
Somehow he eventually got back to my problem. I expected him to say I needed a basement up fix, and he didn't disappoint. Fine. But then I ask, "Is the pipe in good enough shape to fix?:" Yes.When a buddy and I put in the sink we also encountered some corrosion and had to chop off a couple inches. We cut it in about 10 minutes. He says he wants $335 to cut and reconnect (oh, and changing virtually new PVC "just to be safe"); that would be the equalalient of about $1800 an hour. And, that's not including his "non-negotiable" $275 fee for clearing the clog.
I told him I was insulted and he could leave. That's when he tried to up the $45 service call to $55, just like the previous writer.
