.

My son joined AYSO soccer last season. The organization is very popular in this area, and many of his friends were joining.

The teams play 6 weeks in the spring and 6 weeks in the fall. You sign up way in advance. One problem is that when you sign up months ahead of time, they cannot tell you what days and times your child's team/league will be playing. However, they are happy to refund your money if the timing doesn't work, and the amount is very reasonable compared to some soccer teams and classes.

The teams play twice a week, usually one week night and one Saturday game. There are usually two different locations for the weekday and weekend games, which can be anywhere in the county you are signed up. Luckily ours were not too far from home.

Younger kids (ages under 7) play without keeping actual score, just to get the kids to learn the game and have fun, which I think is nice.

A uniform is included in the fee. Parents of the children on the team take turns providing snacks and drinks for the players. There is also a team picnic in the summer where team pictures are taken, with little free games for the kids and prizes. In the fall is a soccer banquet where awards are given out (this is extra cost).

PROS: Good organization, team spirit
CONS: Don't know in advance when your child will play
