City Knits is a great place to get yarn, but be ready to pay a pretty penny for it. Also, be sure to check when they are open before going.

Small shop with a very nice selection of yarn. Was very busy for size so it was a little difficult to shop. The owner was very helpful even though she was spread a little thin. Salesperson was new and learning so any delay in assistance was understandable. Very relaxed atmosphere with no sales pressure. Questions were answered with a smile :-) Will return and would like to take a class soon.

A little pricey, but I liked the yarn and bought it anyway.

PROS: nice selection of yarn; very friendly
CONS: small; not open on Sunday (but you have to respect that)

This is a great little yarn shop located in the Fisher Building of downtown Detroit. Parking was easy and reasonable.

The store itself was small, but carried a nice selection of speciality yarn. Along with the yarn, there were many books on knitting and crocheting. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and made my shopping experience a very pleasant one.

My reason for not giving this store a five-star rating is that their prices are high. While some of the yarn is very "exclusive" and can run upwards of $20 per skein, their less exclusive yarns, such as Sugar and Cream was $1.75 per skein, where you can buy the same yarn at Wal-Mart for $1.19.

This store is definately worth the trip for the selection and help, just be sure to bring more money then you think you might need.

PROS: Helpful employees, wide selection.
CONS: Costly
