Dr. Havas has no respect or compassion for your pet or for you. We have been bringing our dog to him since last year due to a tumor he was developing. We scheduled him for a surgery last year till he became sick so the doc said not to go forward with the surgery. He also said because of how it was that it wasn't cancerous and nothing to worry about. We noticed lately that the tumor has grown and took him in today for a recheck. Our appt was at 9:15, we were taken back at 10, am assistant came in at 10:35 and said I the hall who's I here, she opened the door and said oh he's still here..the doc came in felt the lump for 1 second and said yeah you should have it removed. He didn't even remember that he had seen my dog (my dog has been there 3 times since his initial visit in January). So as he was saying this one of the receptionist opened the door and said are you done I need to get someone else in here. We waited in that room for 38 minutes for nothing! He also said he wouldn't know if it's cancer when he had already told us it wasn't. Then the doc said he will write it up so I told them I will take my dog to the car and be right back. When I came back in the other receptionist had no clue as to what I needed and actually said, "I'm not the one who would know". I asked the other receptionist, Wendy who needed the room so bad if she knew and that it was ridiculous how we were kicked out of our room, she had no answer...So I asked an assistant to ask the doc, he came out and said
The other receptionist will schedule his surgery. So I went to her, then the doc came up behind me basically yelling at me that no I wasn't kicked out of the room and I'm the one who left to go to my car and just ranting, I was so shocked and dismayed by his horrible behavior. This man has no place having a veterinarian office. Many people give him good reviews based on price but like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. They overbook, not sure if it's due to greed, the majority of the staff is rude and they treat you and your pet as a number. I regret as a animal lover and owning animals that I put my dogs health in his hands. If I could give no stars I would but unfortunately you have to give at least one. So my one star stands for the few assistants in the past who were kind to help clean up after my dog when he became sick in their office over the winter. They at least deserve that.

If I had the option to give this establishment 0 stars, I would. They do not even deserve the 1 star I am obligated to select. There is only one word to describe my experience here: TRAUMATIZING. I came to this facility under the pretenses that the vet was competent and could properly complete the job of neutering my dog. I was clearly mistaken and disgusted by the negligent care and discourteous service. Pick-up time for the animals is between 4-6pm. I called TWICE to ask for a status update on my dog and the tech assured me he was awake, alert and that surgery went well. I drove all the way to the facility only to be told that my dog was not doing well and had to stay the night. Why would you not notify me of the abnormal swelling and bleeding by phone immediately? Again, negligent.

Dr. Havas was an unsavory man with a brash attitude. He answered questions with incredible annoyance in his voice as if I was a burden to him. YOU WORK IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY WITH CLIENTS. You would think that a vet would have the social skills to appropriately empathize and address concerns with thoughtful feedback and detailed answers. My dog is a part of my family. I didnt bring an inanimate object in to be repaired.

The next morning, the vet said he wanted to keep my dog even longer because of seeping. I immediately drove to the office and adamantly requested that I take my dog to my regular vet. Dr. Havas made me wait 20 minutes only to have a conversation where he spoke to me in a condescending tone as if I were uneducated and unable to comprehend anything going on. I finally received my dog, completely bloody and barely able to move. I carried him to my car with no help and immediately took him to an emergency vet. The emergency vet did not even charge me for the examination due to the poor surgical job that Dr. Havas conducted. I had to take my dog to a specialist for an emergency surgery. Dr. Havas originally wanted me to leave my bloody, scared, and hurting dog in his care another night. I have never been so abhorred in my entire life and will make sure to let everyone with animals know to avoid this ill-mannered and inept vet.

We've been going to Long Lake Animal Hospital since it opened and I highly recommend Dr. Havas and all the Vet Techs and everyone else who makes this place so warm and friendly. At times we have had serious health problems with our dogs, and I always trust the Dr. will then send us to specialists.

My entire family has been going to Dr.havaas for years! It is busy, yes, but why do u think that is? Cheap prices but poor treatment? No. Any pet lover wants the best medical care for their companion. Crap happens, that's life, he is HUMAN and is not perfect. Get off ur small ponies and accept that life is not something u can control.the staff is always super friendly and understanding. 1 hampster,2 mice, 1 guinea pig, 1 ferret, 1 bird, 4 cats, and 4 dogs, have all had exceptional care. Those pets are just from me. I have 5 other family members who have had just as many pets and share my opinion. EVERYONE AT LONG LAKE ROCKS! Thank you guys for so many wonderful years

I have gone to dr havoc for over 20 yrs. Yes the place gets busy- but its due to his prices and begin a good vet. Now do not start whining because you had to wait. GET OVER IT. the world does not revolve around you or your dog. 2nd. HE is a good vet and He does good.He can't always know answers to everything. No1 does Not even human docs. You cant expect someone to snap their fingers n theirs the answer. When techs take dogs to the back. its because YOU the human is making the dog STRESSED-OUT dogs pickup ur body language n act on it. Yes some dogs do not like vets offices and scarred the smells. You can correct that by just bringing ur dog to the vets to just GET USED TO GOING TO IT. you people make things so much more harder then it is. STOP! looking the mirror,CORRECT YOUR BEHAVIORS before judging some1 who is taking care of your animal because YOU DON'T

If you love your pets, DO NOT take them to Dr. Havas. Our dog almost died because he couldn't diagnois a bacterial infection that settled in his lungs, even though we were charged for the testing that would have showed the infection. We took him to a different vet and are seeing signs of improvement after only 24 hours!

I just had my second encounter with the vet and my opinion has definitely changed. I took my dog there last year for her shots (since that's where my uncle had taken her). She obviously remembered being there from when she was hit by a car because she refused to go any further then the waiting room. Everyone there was nice and helped to coax her in the room. When the doctor came in he was pleasant and was able to give shots, etc. within 5 minutes. This past time we went there she was again nervous and the nice girl working helped me get her into the room. We were the first patient the doctor was seeing and boy was he miserable. He was very impatient with my dog and rude to me. He ended up taking her to the "surgery room" because she would not sit still. I don't know why they had to take her back there, but I found it unnecessary. Once the girl returned with my dog, she told us we could leave- the doctor never came back in.

Yes the place is outdated, but was more clean the second time around. However, the Dr. is tired and stressed and maybe should retire (no offense). I was very upset after leaving the vet and seeing the way my dog was treated by the Dr. It really makes me not want to go back. But, what can you expect when you are getting below discounted prices.

After waiting in line at the Oakland County annual shot clinic, I begin discussing with my new neighbor in line about how everyone says dogs that are neutered are less aggressive. However, the cost I told her is why we hadn't done it. She begin telling me about her daughter's experience with this clinic and suggested them to me. She says her daughter drives from Waterford to Troy because of the wonderful prices and great handling of her dog. So, I'm calling first thing Monday morning to make an appointment! $50 for a 50lbs dog! I have a cocker spaniel so I'm hoping that my cost and experience are the same! Let you know after. As for the decor and even bedside manner, so long as they do good work, are priced fair, and know what they're doing who cares about the fancy pantsy stuff. Can't wait to take my dog Jack.

We tried 3 or 4 vets when we first moved here 13 years ago. And have been seeing Dr. Hartnett for 12. He and his employees are Amazing!! My only concern is that he may retire someday.

I took my dog there to get neutered and the dr. did a great job.. my dog picked the stitches but that wasnt there fault. I recently called for an apppointment and was reffered some where else becasue theres nothing open. I understand the concern since my dog is hurt but i wasnt happy that i had to ask for a differant day instead of being told when there would be an opening spot. A receptionist is the first impression of the business. Thankfully there's a great doctor there.

I just took my 6 month old mini dachshund to Long Lake Animal Hospital to be neutered. I was shocked when I called my personal vet to have the procedue done and was quoted a price between $250 and $300! I heard from a friend that Long Lake Animal Hospital was much more affordable so I called and was quoted a price of $50 for the procedure. I was amazed that they could do it so cheap so I asked around and read online reviews to see if there were any red flags. The only complaints that I heard were regarding wait times for check in and the lobby area. I personally had no issues with the lobby, but could see how the wait time might irritate some type A personalities. I mean really this vet is almost like a real doctor's office. People arrive at 9:00am when they open and must sign in and fill out forms and wait for their turn. You would expect that from a regular doctor so either get over it and be patient or go elsewhere and pay 4 times more for the service. I arrived 10 minutes before they opened and was 3rd on the sign in list. After filling out the paper work and handing off my little guy I was out of there within 15 minutes. They gave me the option to have bloodwork done for a $50 charge but I know that for a young healthy animal this is not necessary so I waived the bloodwork and just paid $50 for the neuter service. I picked up my pup shortly after 4:00pm the same day and as they use glue and not stitches I did not have to bring him back for follow up. This vet does not take credit cards as payment which was not an issue for me, so please have cash or a check when you go.

Dr. Havas is great doctor just because you could not get in does not make him a bad doctor. I went to him for 30 some years. I dont drive anymore and moved from Troy. So I have to go to another vet. I hope this one is as good as Dr H is. Every time I took my pets in my grandchildren wanted to go. They call it the fun room because of the waiting room full of all types of dogs & cats waiting for their turn. I have three sympathy cards one for each of my pets that pass away. Very thoughtful..

We've had very good experiences at this vet. They have our baby as we speak and are removing a tumor. They're always very straight forward about what the problem is and VERY inexpensive. We would definitely refer our friends here. Yes, you have to wait a long time. Bring a snack for u both. :)

My husband was referred to Long Lake Animal Hosipital by a co-worker. It's definitely not fancy (and there is almost always a wait), but they do a great job and you can't beat the prices. I would never compromise my dog's health just for cheap rates, but this place is great! We have never had a problem.

Called for a first time appointment and was RUSHED through the phone call. I asked about the visit and wanting to bring my animal in same day due to a concern I have and was told, "NO, I ABSOLUTLY CAN NOT DO THAT." I only have one Dr. here today. JULIE was the receptionist and didn't even bother to hear my concern. How did she know my dog wasn't having a reaction to something and needed immediate attention? She didn't even care to ask what was wrong, but rather tried to rush me off the phone. TERRIBLE first impression. When I asked her the protocol for people calling with concerns with their animals, she HUNG UP ON ME!!! I tried calling back and the phone was busy for 5 minutes each time I tried. I'm sure she took it off the hook. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WOULD NEVER, EVER, EVER GO HERE! They clearly don't care about your pet, especially if you as a pet owner have an immediate concern.

I have been taking my dogs to Long Lake for well over 15 years now. I wouldn't trust anyone else to treat my pets who are like my children. I must have referred well over 20 pet owners to Long Lake who all had the same great experience. Much love and respect!

If you are looking for a VERY well-priced veterinarian who loves your animal as much as you do Dr. Havas??s Clinic is the place to go. Before you do go please keep these factors in mind.

*You will wait! Sometimes for a LONG time (well over an hour) even if you do have an appointment. They do the best they can to expedite you through if you have a scheduled appointment but they do schedule conditional appointments, drop-offs, pick-ups and occasionally walk-ins. The place is usually packed so make sure your pet is okay with sitting amongst other animals or you can sign-in and hang-out outside or in your car if you prefer.

*The office is not updated or plush. This is obviously reflected in their treatment pricing. They are able to pass these savings on to their clientele.

*Dr. Havas is very hard working, always on the go and may not seem like the most outgoing or talkative person in the world but he loves animals, his profession and is very knowledgeable and skillful. The first time he met our dog he got down on the ground and let our boxer cover him with kisses, laughing all the while. Not something I imagined him doing when I first laid eyes on him! The staff is also very hardworking, good at what they do and love animals enough to work in this crazy-busy environment!

*The clinic does not take credit card.

Our dog had a mass-cell (skin) tumor that needed to be resected. We went to our local vet in Beverly Hills where they quoted us $900-$1000. I thought it sounded a little ridiculous so we decided to get a second opinion. My parents and sister take their dogs to Long Lake so I thought I??d try it out. New surgery quote for the same procedure, well under $200. A successful surgery and an $800 savings is well-worth a two hr. wait in my opinion!!!

People come from all around to receive first-rate and affordable pet care from Dr. Havas. He provides a valuable service to the community during a tough economic time. He only accepts cash but is worth every penny.

People come from all around to receive first-rate and affordable pet care from Dr. Havas. He provides a valuable service to the community during a tough economic time. He only accepts cash but is worth every penny.

Pros: Excellent Care

Cons: Needs a Bigger Waiting Room

.

Okay -- Just finished reading the reviews for Long Lake Animal Hosp. and wanted to add mine. Two years ago Dr. Havas did a pretty big deal surgery (torn ACL ligament) on our Maltese mix dog. He did a skillful job, my dog recovered completely, and the cost was 1/3 what other vets would have charged (I called around for prices). So if you are there to have your ego stroked, well forget it and go somewhere else, but don't bad mouth this vet who has made it his life's work caring for our pets. The staff there is hard-working (probably over-worked) and genuinely cares for animals. So here's my thanks to a skilled vet who makes it possible for us to have our pets treated at reasonable rates.

I have my first appt with Dr. H on Fri the 26th of March and after reading the reviews and talking to my neighbor who recommended this Vet, I'm looking forward to my visit with my Beagle/Basset mix "Rocky". It sounds like the place to go if you want a good Vet that cares more about your animal then the money. We have two dogs and we have paid out more money to Vets then we should have had to. Too much greed out there and not enough compassion. Good for you Dr. H! Can't wait to meet you. Sincerely, Joan Russako

This place is the BEST!!! I had my jack russell terrier spayed here. She chewedher stictches out on a Saturday afternoon. I had to take her to another vet to have them repaired. They wanted to charge me 355.00 for a repair on stitches!!!!! Way more than I payed for the original operation. After telling them I could not afford it, the reduced it to 171.00. Which I payed because I didn't have a choice. The gave me a cone (for 10.00 of course) and sent me home. The cone wasn't big enough and she chewed a couple stitches out again!! Dr. Havas and his staff got me in right away monday morning and repaired her for 6.00. The cost of the new cone. They are so nice and understanding there. I highly recommend this vet to EVERYONE!!!!!

Love this place. I wouldn't go any where else. Yes you do have to wait a bit, but knowing that the doctor is there for your pet's health, that is all that matters. When I had to put my eldest cat down - Dr. Havas was the person that looked my kitty over and tell me that it was time. Once thing that I saw was the compassion in Dr. Havas eyes and face. For me...no other Vet office could or would have done that. They more or less care about the $$$ signs.

I have been bringing my pets to this office for 20 years. I have always had good care and that's whats important. I don't care about the decor. I appreciate the doctor holding down rates. If you want decor go some place else. I need good quality care at a reasonable price.

I honestly really didn't like how i had to wait 45 mins after my appt. to be seen. Others did not have control of their animals. The floor was messy and it wasn't very clean. The staff took forever at the front desk and the clark was rude.

I have been bringing my animals to Long Lake animal hospital for over 15 years. For those that have complained, you are going to a vet what do you expect the office to smell like? My dog of a lifetime developed cancer (osteosarcoma) at 2 years old. Dr. H diagnosed this 100% correct in his office by an x-ray. Since he was experienced and knew what he was looking at, his referral to a specialist allowed me to have 3 extra loving years with my pet! As an added bonus his prices and love for the animals can't be beat!

This place has the BEST prices in .. well the best I have ever heard of ... fancy sitting areas COST US the consumer... In these hard economic times, I would rather BE THANKFUL I can afford to take my animal to the vet ... then to worry about what the sitting area looks like ... Kudos to LONG LAKE ANIMAL HOSPITAL for caring .... I for one am willing to wait a little longer or sit in a not so updated sitting area... for GREAT loving and affordable care for my pets ...

I had to smile when i read one of the reviews below that mentioned the outdated decor and the demeanor of Dr. Havas at times. If you want a fancy updated office and a calm atmosphere where you and your pet feel super special like the only ones who deserve attention, this is not the place for you.
However, If you want to go to a vet with over 30 yrs of experience, who's office is not updated because he cares for animals every day from early in the morning until late at night and he is too concerned about that than to worry about office updates, who somehow walks calmly through the madness of dogs, kids, cats, owners and the staff, who's staff always seems to be in a hurry yet they cover everything that needs covering, asks all the right questions, and despite the craziness of the their job still have that look of compassion, love and care for animals in their eyes, this is the place for you and your pet! I sit and watch and i'm amazed!
Yep, i've had to wait! Yes sir, i have waited patiently. If you can't sit with your pet and enjoy the circus and enjoy the pets and people around you. You may want to go somewhere else. The reason you wait is because Dr. Havas is worth waiting for. He is so super busy because he is so good. The prices he charges are reasonable, this is not a doctor who is concerned with charging ridiculous amounts of money for good care. He cares about animals and he cares about families who love their pets.
I know people who drive very long distances to go to Dr. Havas. A family member moved to Canada and still came here with her dog. She would make a special trip to this vet!
I lost my male tabby on March 25th. The staff was so kind and compassionate. Dr. Havas was wonderful to me! They let us spend as much time as we wanted with him. I had my kids and my mom with me and they didn't mind at all. We stayed with him after he passed as well. My cat spent 5 days with them and was on an IV. I was not over charged at this very difficult time in my family's life. It was very reasonable and i am so very grateful since i am a single mom with two kids.
They don't take credit cards so be prepared to pay in cash or check!!!! I highly recommend Long Lake Animal Hospital!!

I've been taking my cats to this vet for a few years now. Once for a neuter, shots, de-claw. The other time for emergency care. I have always been pleased with the level of care my pets and I have received. The staff is always friendly. My only problem with this place is the fact that they are always so booked!! It's hard to get an appointment, but if you have an emergency they will squeeze you in. Highly recommended!

I have to say at first I did not feel good coming here a staff member who apparently had no stress management skills was very rude and disrespectful to people. Upon my second visit they were short staffed and the one person running the desk was visibly stressed but was very nice and showed respect to everyone. Yes the wait is long but it's well worth it. I thank this doctor for providing all that he does. I can provide the care for my dog without being taken advantage of and know I am not going to go into debt. I have spent my savings on my dog because a facility believed my dog needed every rare test possible and overnight care. When ultimately all the testing was not neccessary and my dog was fine and was experiencing normal complications from a surgery that were not serious at all. And I felt like such a fool spending all that money because i was so concerned about my pet. There are alot of places that do this. NOT HERE! You will recieve the care that is found necessary without all the excessive expensive testing.

I operate the Michigan Dachshund Rescue. I presently have 7 dogs. Four are mine the rest are rescues. I have been taking them to Long Lake Animal Hospital about 10 years. Dr. H and the staff have been wonderful. There prices are what I can afford, because I personally fund the rescue. Long Lake Animal Hospital is not a fancy Vet with a high style waiting room, but the dogs like it. Yes you may have to wait awhile, yes the staff can be short with you at times, and yes Dr. H may not have the time to chit chat. Just remember he loves his work and loves the animals and went it to this to help animals, and not to become a rich Vet. He once bend down and kiss one of my dogs on the head. Now try and find a more caring Vet than that. One of my dogs was just sick with heart trouble and was having trouble breathing. Dr. H gave her meds and asked me to call him back in a few days to let him know how she was doing. I called and was told keep up the meds and call me back the following week just to be sure everything is ok. This Vet cares!!!

I took my puppy in for shots, and neuter. Everyone arrived at the same time (about 20 other families), and we filled out paperwork. Then, a lady called us one at a time, checked our paperwork and then took our pet back. I left, and came back when they called me later that afternoon.

I drive an hour each way to go to this office, so that really says something. Not only are the prices excellent, they do not tack on anything extra, and the staff is incredible. I know some people might get sad that they aren't being treated like Special Snowflakes, but I don't need that. I need to know my dog is well care for and the prices are affordable.
And I get that at Long Lake Animal Hospital.

My advice? Follow their instructions as they tell you, and you'll be fine.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Havas since 1972, when I first moved to Troy. He has saved the lives of at least 3 of my cats, even meeting me at his office on a Sunday afternoon. I have since moved to Shelby Twp, but continue to make the trip to Dr. Havas. I have noticed that the sparkle in his eyes and his energy are fading lately, but that's because he works tirelessly to give the best care to my pets at the most affordable prices. He is worth the trip. Thank you, Dr. Havas, for saving Tiki numerous times. Pelli and Popo will be in to see you soon.

I went to the Long Lake Animal Hospital for my very first visit. I was told to be there between 9:00 am., and 10:00 am. I was one of the first people to arrive there. I waited in my vehicle with the car running because of the frigid temperatures. Other people started to show up and form a line at the front door. (apparently we all had an appointment for the exact same time). I was a minute or two before 9:00, so I got out with my cat to join the crowd. Needless to say, we stood there in the bitter cold at 9:00, 9:05, 9:10, 9:15, etc. NO ONE SHOWED UP TO OPEN UP THE FRONT DOOR!!!! I don't know about you, but I get to work before my scheduled time to get set up and in place. There were people in line with little dogs, big dogs, cats, all shivering from the cold!!! I looked at my cat in her carrier, (SHAKING FROM THE COLD) , and decided this place no matter how reasonable the costs are, is not the place for me or my pet. If this is how they treat people and animals, I want no part of this place. There is no consideration, and no professionalism. It looked like a low cost backroom puppy mill. Sure, I am going to another vet, which more than likely will cost me twice the amount that this place was going to charge, but at least I know my cat will get the best of care. With this place, I don't know that if after I dropped my cat off for spaying, that she would be alive the next day when I came to pick her up. I think this place is under the impression that since they have low prices, that people will put up with anything. WRONG!!!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE WHATSOEVER!!!!

My one year Russian Blue mix Charley was up to get neutured since he had started spraying. I had went to one other vet before coming here and that was the Detroit Humane society, I went there for Charley's ears to be cleaned and they had told me it would be only $60. Little did I know since noone informed me, that was only the walk in fee and I would be billed later for another 100.00. So I had to find another place. I went to Long Lake, they were kind and caring, and reassured me that Charley would be just fine ( I started crying cause they said I would have to leave, he's my baby). When I came back the only thing I didn't like was that the lady who brough him out, had his crate completely tilted up so Charley was smushed into the way back of it. Well After I went to pay the bill, and for his shots and neutering it was only $60! As opposed to The Detroit Humane society who wanted me to pay well over $200 for his shots. If your looking for an inexspensive place that will take care of your pet this is the place. Also be warned, it is usually crowded.

I've been bringing our two family dogs to Dr. Havas for a good few years now and I am very grateful for the excellent care and value provided by Dr. Havas and his staff. I'm not emotionally needy and I (and my pets) don't need a vet to spend a bunch of time pointlessly chatting with me to keep me mollified. I (and my pets) also don't need to be charged for things that have no impact on the quality of my pet's care like decor makeovers. My *pets* need quality care, responsiveness, and information. My pets get that and more, at an extraordinarily good price from Dr. Havas and his staff. They have been consistently professional and caring and have been extremely helpful during some very serious health problems that our pets have had. That they work so hard for so little in this day and age makes them rare indeed!

Myself and my whole family and friends have been going to Dr. Havas for over 23 years and we dont mind the wait and sittinging the waiting room for a long time. We know our pets throughout the years that he have will be taken care of with the utmost care and we have no worries!! I want to thank first of all Sandy she is a God send and then, I want to thank Dr. Havas, Heidi, Mrs Havas, Heather and all of the others girls that put in a lot of time and energy that these people have givin to myself and all of my pets, family and friends! Please dont listen to what these people write that have nothing to do but complain. We Love you Dr. Havas and all of us that know what a great Vet you are and you care so much about the pets that we have would sooooo miss you if you ever left, and we pray to GOD that you dont!! But if you make a decision to go I hope you find someone that is as loving and caring as yourself!! We Love you Dr. Havas!!
P.S. Nobody will ever find the quality vet care at such a great price as Dr. Havas and Long Lake hospital as we have, ever!!

I've been taking my animals to Dr. Havas since I was in the 5th grade. I'm now 51. I won't go anywhere else. Dr. Havas is always sure of himself and takes the utmost care of his patients and owners. My dog had a siezures at 3 a.m. Christmas morning. When I called Dr. Havas, he calmed me down, told me what todo and had me meet him at the office Christmas day as soon as all three of us got maybe a few hours of sleep. Now what other doctor would do that? He loved my dogs so much that he cried when I told him one of them died several years later. I've referred many friends and family to Dr. Havas and will continue to do so. When I was in the checkout line with my mom's new puppy, the guy behind me struck up a conversation, it was his first time there. He siad they met through Mrs. Havas. I told him how long we'd been seeing him and he said that was great to know, he'd continue to bring his animal there! Dr. Havas has even let me "assist" in surgery with my dog because he knew what a bond there was between us, it calmed both of us to be together. What an absolutely awesome veterinarian and staff! And so reasonably priced! How much better can it get?

I've been happy with Long Lake Animal hospital.. we take our two large breed dogs there. One of our dogs had a growth on her leg and I took her in. They took her the same day even though they were completely booked. I waited 1 1/2 hours. It was a bit stressful to wait so long, but I was only charged $34 for antibiotics and the visit. I scheduled her for surgery and my husband was able to get all the paperwork for me to fill out at home so when I went back with my toddler to drop her off I could just drop her off and not wait long. I really appreciated it.

The Dr. is kind and caring... the wait is long, but the prices are good.. very good!

The first time I went to this vet was in August of 2007 because my 15 year old large breed dog was barely able to stand and could not control his bowels. We thought it was time to put him down but our regular vet (one of those state of the art, roomy, expensive offices) couldn't get him in because it was a Friday and they were booked up. Long Lake was the only one who would see us on short notice as new customers.

We did wait a long time (about an hour) for the vet to come in to the room but she took one look at our dog and said all he needed was pain meds and anti-inflammatories. Our regular vet saw him once a year and never mentioned pain meds for him. Long Lake gave us another year with our dog because of the knowledge and caring of the vet. When it was time to put him down (Aug 08) we took him back to Long Lake. We had to wait again but it was worth it. The vet and assistants gave my 16 year old dog and my family the caring and respect deserved in our time of grief.

They are very busy and sometimes that causes a little less than perfect customer service - but they are one of the only offices left with vets who still remember why they became vets in the first place. By the end of the day, the office is a little dirty and smells like dog but they always make time for a pet in need and they always make sure that people can take care of their pets even when money is tight. To me, that means more than updated office decor or someone there to hold my hand when I walk in the door.

I would recommend this vet to anyone and have chosen to take my other two dogs there from now on.

Pros: Caring Vets, Helpful Staff, Low Prices, Availability

Cons: Long Waits To See Vet

Dr. Havas is certainly in the right business. He treats your pets like his own children. The staff he has are so kind and understanding about what ever your pet's situation might be; just like at the Pediatrician??s office. If your pet is ill, they will do their best to have them seen on the same day. I've seen him stay there until 9 at night and he started at 8:30in the morning. How many regular physicians do you know, do that for you? If he's out of town, they usually have a Dr. filling his spot while he's away. If the temporary Dr. is busy, they'll suggest another clinic to you that they trust. They'll forward the immunization records over to the back-up vet's office, that you choose, so you don't have to bring it with you. He has been taking care of all of my Siamese kitties for
8 years---Dr. Havas deserves a Gold Medal for Best and
Outstanding Veterinarian of all Ages

I in the past have taken my dog and my cat to be neutered/spayed and my cat front laser declawed by Long Lake and have also had some shots done there. I have never had any problems with this place and also never had any problems getting prices for anything I needed a price for. I also a couple of years ago needed to put my male dog to sleep due to untreatable medical conditions that made him suffer. He was great with this and I have never gotten "raked over the coals", as someone else used, for payment on these services.

I visited the Long Lake Animal Hospital and I was very impressed. They showed much care and answered all the questions that I needed to ask. Their prices are extremely reasonable, especially compared to the rest of the vets around town. I would highly recommend the Long Lake Hospital.

if everyone who has written something negative would reflect on how long they have waited for a dentist or medical doctor only to behave gratefully when the doctor steps in would give dr. h just half of that courtesy...this man is all about the integrity of his profession...he isn't going to make you feel good about YOU(he is not a personal trainer or a life coach) if that's what you are looking for then keep looking because he's way too busy!!! he will however give his best medical opinion of what it is that your pet needs and he will not rake you over the coals financially with frilly options while doing it...i am sure if he wanted to have a newer building, work about half the time and not be on his feet so many days a week he could...but to have met him is to know that he loves and cares for our smaller family members. his staff are working as quickly as they can to make sure all of our questions are answered in a polite and thorough manner and they work very hard to make that happen. i am thrilled that my friend sent me to dr. h and i have recommended many of my friends...patience is a virtue and all you short tempered, impatient folks who supposedly love your pets must learn that this is a place of caring for pets not your sensitive egos!! i highly recommend LONG LAKE ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!!

I started taking my pets here due to a friend I work with, she had recommended Long Lake Animal Hospital. I have just read through the reviews and I have to say I just don't understand all these nasty comments, sure the office is older but who cares, what would you rather have a healthy pet or an elegant office? I, myself would much rather have a healthy pet. I think the staff is wonderful, they seem happy and have always been friendly to me. The prices are exellent, this office makes if possible for me to have my pets. I love animals very much and I don't know what I would do without them, other places charge ridiculous prices. I also think everyone needs to cut Dr. Havas a break, he is a very busy man, trying to help all of us care for our pets, he has a lot to do in a day. He may be an older gentleman, but that just means he is wiser and if he seems in a rush he is just very busy. He has always answered all of my questions and has always talked to my pets with a love that is plainly obvious. Really all of these mean comments about him I do not believe one bit, if he was "rude" with you then you were probably rude or snotty to him first. Anyway, Long Lake is a great place to go, I take my two cats and my pup there and everyone is very good to them. Keep up your great work and thank you so much for helping those of us that love our pets be able to care for them.

I have been going to Long Lake Animal Hospital for at least 5 or 6 years and the Dr. there works very long hours to take care of all the pets he sees and cares for all the animals like there are his own and I would not take my pet any where else because when I leave this place I know my pet was well taken care of and the other places you go the prices are very high and he makes it to where you can afford to have your pet taken care of because he wants people too take care of there pets and he makes it affordable for pet owners. It is always busy here and its not the most to update to date place like other places but he is able to do anything that any other vet is able to do and he is cheaper then all vets.

It's a shame that people feel once they walk into a place everyone has to bow down to them. You can tell who these people are by their nasty comments. If you want to be waited on hand and foot then go to another vet that charges you for all those extras. Here at Dr. Havas vet, he charges you way less then half of what other vets do and is more caring to my pets then me, but hey, if I wanted more attention I would be going to a MD not a vet. He only gives my 3 dogs loving attention, care and the opt most respect anyone could expect. The surgeries he did on my 3 dogs have been great with not ONE issue after. Shame on all those NASTY impatient people that think there money talks and not walks....think again money can't buy you in this place! Keep up the great work and prices Dr. Havas I'll be there through thick or thin. :)

I had just switched Veterinarian offices as I wasn't happy with my previous one & they weren't very close to my home. I chose Long Lake Animal Hospital since I already use their grooming services. When I made my appt I explained that my dog needed an exam & that I needed to get a written prescription for her medication to order online (she has been taking it for going on 4 yrs & will have to be on it for the rest of her life). Once Dr. Havas came into the room & I said I needed a prescription written he stated that he doesn't write prescriptions & that I should go back to my previous vet. I was very upset, I wasn't told this when I made the appointment. I choose to purchase the prescriptions on line from 1-800-petmeds because they are affordable. I walked out of the office & will never return.

So, I started to research this. I was told by 1-800-Petmeds that the American Veterinary Medical Association's Principles of Ethics states that they should honor a clients request for a prescription instead of selling the medication themselves. Then the Bureau of Health Professions advised me that according to the Michigan Public Health Code, a practitioner cannot require you to purchase a medication or service from a business in which they have a financial interest. They also advised me to complete an allegation form against him. That's what I am doing. Who knows how many people he has already done this to?

I hope this helps anyone that may have had this same issue or anyone that may be thinking about going to this vet.

Here is the link to get to the allegation form in case anyone needs it: www.michigan.gov/healthlicense

Per the last review posted by Nmbr1dad, if he can treat his family this way why would he treat our families (pets) any better?

Cons: Illegal actions

Yes, the decor is old.and tired.

Yes, the staff is lean and harried (but not uncaring).

No, they don't take credit cards (wish they did).

Yes, wait times are long.

Yes, Dr. H comes off as taciturn, abrupt and a bit morose.

Yes, he demands that the pet owner take full responsibility for the animal and will come down hard on owners who he thinks are not meeting that responsibility.

BUT...

Why to you think this place is always packed?

1) He is an effective vet. Your animal will normally prosper.

2) His prices are very reasonable.

3) He does no unnecessary procedures. (All too many vets "jack up the price" by recommending procedures and making you feel guilty if you do not agree to them. Dr. H is "old fashioned" in this respect.)

If you want a touchy-feely vet, DO NOT COME HERE! Go elsewhere for your hand holding. (It will shorten my wait.)

Dr. H really does not care if you come back because of the "presentation". These are animals, not people and he treats the animal itself. If you have larger issues about animal-human relations, see your psychiatrist, not your vet.

Dr. H. has far more business than he can handle. For good reason.

No, I am not in any way connected with this business. I was not impressed with this place on my first or even my fourth vist. It took me a while to see things Dr. H's way.
