I enjoy the neighborhood environment of the Birmingham Borders as well as their strong line up of authors and events. The associates at Borders have been very helpful in ordering in books for me, checking for items over the phone and more. It is a family friendly book store and the cafe is a nice place to gather and sort through potential purchases.

While the social atmosphere is good here, the price of books is prohibitive, compared to Amazon.com and Overstock.com, among other online stores. Also, pleasant social atmosphere becomes oppressive starting around Thanksgiving until Christmas is well over. Staff is lackadaisical in a way, with some kids working there who don't care about their job.

PROS: Nice location; good parking on off times
CONS: Too expensive; somewhat low inventory compared to Internet

This bookstore is the one to go to for book signings, meet friends, find new music, sit at the cafe and peruse a new magazine. This location has everything that you could ever ask for in a book store. There are several floors to peruse and it may take you several hours, but it is worth it.

PROS: Location, selection, and service
CONS: None that I can think of
