This place was awful to my pregnant friend and I. I made an appointment with them a month in advance for my good friend to have her serviced before her baby shower. They lost my appointment and then repeatedly told me there was no way she could get serviced that day. I asked to speak with someone in charge and couldn't communicate with them because the owners only spoke Russian. The receptionist was nasty ,she hung the phone up on me on the way to the salon and then when I arrived she seemed generally pissed about life and said nasty things about me in her native language. (This was confirmed by another employee) Nothing was ever remedied and my friend went without service on her special day.
It was a disaster! I'll NEVER go there again! I expected good customer service at what I thought was an upscale business that could be trusted. Not the case.

Avalon was recommend to us, We made a appointment for 3 Girls, One Bridesmaid, flower girl, and another Guest of the Wedding! This was a very important day for us! We schedule the appointment way in advance for hair and makeup! 3 days before the wedding,the bridesmaid decided to have a consultation for hair, Well the receptionist tells her Miss the girl that's doing your hair is no longer here! they should of called you! They never did! So the bridesmaid doesn't have a appointment! That shows what kinda of customer_ client relationship they have! We took our business elsewhere! No trust!

i first found out about avalon aveda salon through my sister while i was in town visiting family for the festival of passover. my sister has purchased products here because we love aveda but has never had services done at the salon. i decided to give this place a try and i was on the outlook for an aveda salon because i am actually moving back to the detroit area my job. i definitely will not be going here when i return home for good. my stylist was quite the know it all. i booked a haircut appointment and when i sat down in my stylists chair she immediately said, wow you need your color done. i don't get my hair colored i politely said to her and she said thats weird because you have roots. i don't have roots so i really don't know what she was talking about. we talked about my haircut and what i liked and i could tell she wasn't really listening or just didn't care. needless to say i was not happy with the result of my haircut. i should of just got up and left before she could do anything, one side in the front is shorter than the other and the back is very choppy and uneven, my husband even noticed it looked funny when he saw and he never points things like that out. this salon is also very dirty and dingy looking, the shampoo bowls are filthy and i was actually nervous for her to wash my hair in one thinking there was a chance i could get ecoli. when checking my haircut i pointed out things i didn't like and wanted adjusted before i left but she kept saying i don't see what you're talking about. at that point i was so over the salon and couldn't wait to leave, i also had asked about pedicures since i didn't see where or if they are done there or not and she didn't even bother to show me where just replied yea we do them. i won't be back and my sister and i will be purchasing our products at the somerset collection.

Unfortunately the client below has touched on one of the biggest problems that the stylist/client relationship has-communication. It is so difficult through just one appointment with a client to be able to discern exactly what "honey blond" or " wispy layers" means to them, and what it means to us as a stylist. Everyone articulates differently and it takes more than one appointment sometimes to get on the same page:)
I am so sorry this client left unsatisfied, as I tell all of my clients " I am not your friend, I am your employee, you do not have to worry about my feelings ". If you, at any point during, or after our appointment, see something that concerns you PLEASE tell me and I will gladly stop and address any issue or re-do any service until you are satisfied. As for the blowdry, many cuts these days cannot be completed until dry so that we may accoutn for cowlicks, etc.., and if you are told a different price than what you were quoted you should immediately challenge that.
I am in this business because I love to make people feel good! Everyone at Avalon is talented beyond reproach, and I would like to think we are all adept at listening to our clients needs, as that is the reason we do what we do. I am so sorry you didn't have that experience. Please accept my personal heartfelt apology, and I hope you'll give us a try again sometime.

I have been employed at Avalon for 11 years. It is an extremely attractive salon with a wonderful group of hair dressers. Each of whom have an ultimate respect for Aveda's products, our clients and each other. We have each maintained the highest standards of continued education and take great pride in producing healthy and stylish looks for our client's enjoyment.
We have nail techs that are second to none with years of talented skill and personality. And our spa workers have magic in their touch. We have received awards and recognition for our superior services and will continue to do so with conviction and dignity.
It is a shame that only a few disgruntled ex-employees have been documented on this sight, as we strive to do only the best work. Please, come and see for yourself- we would love to prove it to you!

This salon threatened to call the police on me after leaving negative review/feedback about my horrible experience with them. This is the message I recieved from Carolyn a stylist there after wanting explanation as to why she dismissed me as a client when I accidentally missed one appointment. I left her a message asking her if she would still cut my moms hair because my mom wasn't sure if she could go to her or not after she dismissed me, her daughter.

" I am not cutting your hair because you are crazy. You are not welcome in our salon after you left negative comments on our website. As for your mom, I will not be cutting her hair as well. I would be worried that you would come with her. DO NOT TRY TO CONTACT ME EVER AGAIN. I will call the police"

Last time I checked, it is not illegal to leave negative feedback about your experience in a salon. After this message, I think its clear how bad this salon is. By the way, the manager apologized to me over this stylists behavior and said, "i can't control who she has as clients. I'm very sorry for what happened". So am I, this is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me and is outright character discrimination towards me by a salon. Proceed with caution. NOT RECOMMENDED.

I just want to sat that this is a GREAT place for men to get a hair cut. I had a cut and a color from Amanda, ad it turned out fantastic ! It's so hard to find a stylist who listens and cuts it exactly how you want. I highly recommend this salon and Amanda too, she's very easy on the eyes and gives a great scalp massage as well.

I just want to sat that this is a GREAT place for men to get a hair cut. I had a cut and a color from Amanda, ad it turned out fantastic ! It's so hard to find a stylist who listens and cuts it exactly how you want. I highly recommend this salon and Amanda too, she's very easy on the eyes and gives a great scalp massage as well.

I went to this salon because I really like the aveda product and its philosopy on natural haircare. I went in for a haircut. My stylist was Amy. Amy was a terrific and friendly person, however, as a stylist she clearly lacked listening skills. She gave me a very choppy haircut which I specifically told her not to. I told her that the shortest layer hair would be 1/2 inch higher than the long one and she ended up making the shortest layer at my jaw which was 2 inches higher than the longest length. Also, I told her I wanted a low maintenance hair where I can wash and go, she ended up giving me a haircut that requires I think a lot of blow-drying (which I haven't done for over two years) and styling since it is so choppy. I would like it if the layers blended in, but they do not blend in well and flip out at some areas and lopsided too. She chopped off too much at the back of one section which left sort of like a gap at the back. Also, I told her that I haven't blow-dried my hair for over two years and she ended up blowing drying my hair at the end. Terrific person, but lack of taste in haircut stylist and poor listening skills. I also agree with the first review that her conversation was very sales oriented--I didn't care for that. The receptionist also told me a different price for my haircut than the price Amy charged me. I would not recommend this salon for a haircut, but definitely go for the massages since Aveda has wonderful smelling products.

This holds true at Avalon sadly. The cut was good and reasonably priced, but the color, while reasonable in price, just wasn't what I wanted (and I showed pictures). Sales pressure was a little more than I care for as well. On the up side, I like the atmosphere and the spa setting for the spa treatments (which I DEFINITELY recommend). I have a tendency to return for waxing and manicures, but not for hair.

Avalon Salon & Spa is a great place for a women to go to relax and get pampered. I've been there plenty of times and the staff is so friendly and great at what they do. They have so much to offer sometimes I don't know where to start! You can go get a pedicure or manicure, get a stress-relieving scalp massage, get your hair done, a massage & facial, a foot soak, or get some hair waxed. Whatever your desire, I bet you can get it done at Avalon. This place is also very clean, and well decorated. It may be a little pricey but I'm sure most spas are. I recommend this to anyone who needs a day of relaxation.
