I absolutely love Schuler Books & Music. I am always guaranteed to find the book that I am looking for, and more. The CD selection, while slightly expensive, is great for any type of music lover. The atmosphere of Schulers is comfortable, and I love to grab a cup of coffee and a book and find a cozy chair located in many corners throughout the store. I have enjoyed going to Schulers since I was very young, and I'm sure I will enjoy for years to come.

Best big bookstore I've ever been in. Going back to its previous location (still on 28th street)---this place hooked me on bookstores. previously, I'd thought most bookstores were inside malls and rather small. This place changed the way I shopped for books and where I shopped. They also have a great kids book club where you can read books with kids and earn points. They also have a good music section now.

For being independently run, Schuler Books has enough merchandise to keep ahead of their chain-store rival Barnes and Noble. When I'm looking for a hard-to-find CD, it is usually my first stop. Unfortunately, I normally have to shell out a pretty penny to buy it when I see it at Schuler's - their non-sale CDs run as high as $19.99 for a single disc.

They also have a great selection of magazines and giftware not commonly found in West Michigan - Trapp candles, Crabtree and Evelyn bath goods, etc.

Staff at both the 28th St. and Alpine locations are always friendly without being pushy. Schuler's is very selective about who they hire (believe me, I know, I tried to work there!) and you can tell everyone who works there really believes in the store's purpose.

It's a great place to sit down and study, curl up with a good book, or listen to some great music.

PROS: great selection of hard-to-find items, great staff
CONS: can be more expensive than their competitors (B&N)
