We took our 2 shepherds to be kenneled here in early May 2014. We chose not to leave our dogs with this kennel because as the owner was walking our male shepherd back to the kennel runs, he lifted his leg to "mark" on the cinder block

I've been a dog owner in Kalamazoo for almost two decades and this is the best kennel in the Kalamazoo area. Over time I've managed to use the extra pricey / fancy place and the Napoleonic fellow out by Galesburg.

Happytail is clean, my pet is well cared for and the staff is capable and friendly. The price is very reasonable, but you need to pay attention to her pickup policy.

If you feel the need to play dress up with your dog take him to the place that lets him watch TV.

If you want a reasonably prided boarding for your dog this is the place.

I just realized that 2012 marks 60 years that Happytail Boarding and Grooming Kennel has been in business. Built and ran by Jim and Lucy Bobb, Jr, in 1952, they bred, showed and sold Doxies here for many years. Later they added on boarding for pets and still later I worked for them while in HS. Returning in 1981 to purchase the business and home from the Bobbs. They say if you are doing what you love it never feels like work and I can say that has been true for me these 34 -35 years....running Happytail has felt more like a hobby than work. Things remain pretty much the same at Happytail, other than the addition of Kari Sak, who is the groomer on staff for the past two years. I will have to think of a special celebration, but mean time I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all the pets over the years that have made this possible.

KEEP YOUR BABIES AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!

Happytails Boarding Kennels located on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo is beyond a horrible place to go!

The owner is unbelievably rude, the place is a mess, and even across the busy road of Stadium Drive you can hear the dogs barking on and on. It's as if they are begging to get out and away from the filth that they are surrounded in as well as the rudeness of the owner.

If you don't care about your animal, take them to Happytails Boarding Kennels and keep this woman in business. But if you love your animal and want what is best for them then you will STAY AWAY FROM HAPPYTAILS BOARDING KENNELS!!!!

HAPPYTAILS BOARDING KENNEL IN PORTAGE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!\r
AWEFUL, DISHONEST OWNER!!!\r
DISGUSTING PET QUARTERS AND UNFAIR DISCLOSURES AFTER ITS TOO LATE!!!\r
DONT LEAVE YOUR POOR PET HERE, YOU WILL BOTH PAY FOR IT!! :( :( :(\r
i dropped my dog off at 4:45 on a thrusday. Mary {owner} got after me about dropping my dog off so close to the closing time. i think her exact words were ""i thought to myself 'if she isnt here by now she isnt comning', so you are lucky i didnt leave!"" Her tone made it very obvious that she was annoyed that she now had to take the time so close the end of her shift to earn a little bit of money (or what i EXPECTED would only cost me a little bit of money).\r
Mary told both my fiance and I that there would be no one available to release my dog back to us on Sunday, but not to worry, we wouldnt be charged for that day. Which in all honesty, makes sense. If you are not going to allow patrons the oppurtunity to end a service on a certain day, then you \r
\r
cant expect to charge them for that day. My fiance and i were greatful.\r
I picked my dog up on monday at 2:45. when i arrived i was confused because there wasnt a single person on the property, and the sign I was reading on the door clearly marked the hours for monday as 9am-6pm. I called Mary at the number listed on the website, which is obviously her cell phone. She answered and said ""oh we will be there in 2 seconds!"". 15 minutes later she showed up and the first things she did was say ""well i had to take my son to work, i thought you were be there in the morning"", again annoyed. Im not even sure where she got that time frame. Her attitude is absolutely poor, and her tone of voice makes you feel like you are wasting your time.\r
\r
LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: my dog was there from 5pm on thrusday to 3 pm on monday. Mary charges $17 a day, all inclusive so her website reads. I was charged $85.00. You do the math. when i asked about it, Mary decided she was going to charge me $17.00 for thrusday (keep in mind all staff leave the kennels at 5pm -a little aftwer i dropped my dog off- and they are not fed, played with, let out, cared for in any way after 5pm), $17.00 for saturday( all staff leave at 12pm here, which also means that i wasnt able to pick up my dog any time after 11am this day. basically making the next pick up time available monday morning), $17.00 for sunday (the day she wouldnt allow me to get pick up my dog, and earlier mentioned i would not be charged for), and $17.00 for monday. \r
\r
by my calculations, my dog was there 24 hours from thursday 5pm- friday 5pm ($17.00) + another 24 hours from friday 5pm - sat 5pm ($17.00) + another 24 hours sat 5pm - sunday 5pm ($17.00) + another 22 hours sunday 5pm - monday 3pm ($17.00)- $51.00. AND THAT IS INCLUDING SUNDAY, WHICH I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CHARGED FOR!!! tell me how she justifies charging $85.00 once you come to pick up your pet.\r
as far as the place itself, I will NEVER return. my dog smells to high hell. he drank an entire bowl of water the second he got home, which makes me believe its been a while since he was allow to drink. the quarters he was kept in were no bigger than a bathtub, and the ""outside"" run as Mary likes to call it, is 3 cement walls, with a tin roof, and the 3rd wall is a metal fence, still no bigger than a bathtub. \r
\r
She believes she can all it ""outside"" because of the fence and the fact that a little bit of wind blows through every now and then. she told me that she expects all the dogs to poop in that ""outside"" part of the cage and that she will pick it up later. \r
my dog has never, not once since i got him, had an accident in the house. and now, for 4 days, he has been forced to go to the bathroom inside and sit in it till its cleaned up.\r
this place is HORRIBLE. dont make your pet stay here, no matter how short a period. because believe me when i say this, you will BOTH pay for it!!!!
