This 2011 year will be my 5th at Gitche Gumee. It is a great camp for kids 8 years or older. Each age group can attend camp for a week or less, and during that time many activities are scheduled including a hike either to a scenic area or a historical site. Each morning the campers attend flagpole, eat breakfeast, and listen to a missionary speaker. During the day, campers can select two electives for an hour each, including crafts, dodgeball, basketball, and volleyball. A lunch is served and another missionary hour is attended. Games and trips to the beach are scheduled throughout the day, and in the evening, some of the longer games like counsler hunt, bible smuggling, flag football, and dodgeball are played. A third bible lesson hour is attended, and dinner is served. Not soon after, the kids are sent back to their cabins until morning the next day :)

This summer was the first time I saw this camp and started to consider when my child would be old enough to try it out! I remember going to Bible camp each summer when I was a child into my teens and thoroughly enjoying it. This camp is very nicely kept with quaint little cabins set up relatively close to each other. Everyone we met who worked there was extremely friendly! It doesn't seem like they have a lot of acreage but you can tell that they make excellent use of the space that they do have. The youngest age accepted is 8 years old but they also have family camps you can attend with your children as well. They have excellent speakers that come in and offer great teen camps as well. Located in Eagle River, it is a bit of a trek to get to but nice that it isnt close to one of the bigger cities too. Can't wait to try it out possibly next summer at a family camp!
