Delicious food at reasonable price for the area. I tried the daily soup it was wonderful. The fresh beer bread is made on site and from their own beer very fun. Meal size was a to large of a portion but tasty. My daughter liked the homemade soda. I'd go again for sure!

Just over four years ago we found a classy without being stuffy wonderful restaurant named Big Buck which has great food. last week, 9 Jan 2010, we had a party for our son at Big Buck. Our group had just over forty people with a wide mix of food and drink wants. We tried a variety of appetizers and entrees and EVERYTHING was fantastic. The prime rib had excellent seasonings, the filet was grilled to perfection, the soups, salads, seafood, and everything was top notch. Our wonderful waiter from nearby Johannesburg was friendly, efficient, and a joy to converse with. Great personality. Consistently one of the best restaurants in Michigan, with a great line of hand crafted beer and a full line of alcohol for sale. I would highly recommend this restaurant, brewery, distillery and winery.

Our latest trip to Buck's was disappointing to say the least. I never was served the root beer I ordered because it was "locked" somewhere and the manager had to unlock it - very strange. Our appetizer came out after our meal was served. The place was not even busy (on a Sunday evening) - I mean it was half empty - yet we had to wait for about 10 minutes for a table.

Our previous trip was much better than this, but I hear there are new owners, maybe this is the issue?

If you're looking for the finer side of dining in Gaylord, this is the place. They have great steaks, and any other food I have had there has been great. Make sure you try their excellent home brewed root bear! Although, I miss the old days when it first opened several years ago when you could throw peanut shells on the floor at the bar.

The best beer in Gaylord and great steaks to boot. The burgers here are also excellent. The menu also includes every kid's favorite, chicken strips.

NAME: BIG BUCK BREWERY AND STEAKHOUSE
Date Visited: October, 3 2007
Tours Offered: Yes
Rating: Plan your trip around this!

RECOMMENDED: YES

Pros
Excellent, Hand- Crafted Beers; Attractive Facilities; Amazing Culinary

Cons
None come to mind

The Bottom Line - Big Buck is the best in the state, serving excellent beer and great food. Recently, a private equity company acquired the company. The company is producing quality beers of great distinction. Their ambitions have paid off quite well. Big Buck has won numerous medals in the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Championships, and many other competitive events.

Product Lineup - Big Buck Brewery and Steakhouse offers eight products year round, and another eight products that are brewed seasonally (depending on location). The year- round offerings include Big Buck, Raspberry Wheat, Antler Ale, I.P.A., Red Bird, Doc?s E.S.B., Black River Stout. In addition to these products, they also brew about nine additional draft- only products, which are served in the company?s restaurant.

Brewing Facilities - It features an amazing facility, with incredible sculptures and art displayed from a national acclaimed artist.

Restaurant - They have an amazing universal lunch and dinner menu to choose from (homemade).

Final Thoughts - The Midwest has several breweries and brewpubs to visit. If you are in Michigan for an extended period of time, then make sure you place Big Buck at the top of your list. I have sampled most of the beers in the product lineup and they are all exceptional. My personal favorites are I.P.A. and the Red Bird Ale, but all of the products are exceptional. All beers are produced using only natural ingredients, with no preservatives or pasteurization, so they are all fresh and delicious.

Big Buck Brewery and Steakhouse is the best microbrewery in the Midwest. The many awards that have been bestowed upon this company speaks for itself.

This place has the best brews I have found when traveling up North - I have to stop in at least twice every trip (once on the way up, and once on the way down). The food is excellent, too. They have great traditional steak-and-potatoes fare, along with many more "sophisticated" food choices. I have never had a bad meal! Make sure you try the Big Buck beer, and their seasonals brews are excellent.
