Love this place...great facilities, friendly staff...i know most people come to the internet to gripe about things more than praise, but i though a praise is in order for the best club i have ever used.

Two best things about it to me, always a machine available even if parking lot looks full most people are spread out all over the place and the best is the outdoor pool in the summer...pure relaxation after a workout. Kids love it too after taking them out of child care, which is free. Saves us on baby sitter costs while still getting in family time

Nice equipment and okay class schedule, but the management needs to take some customer service classes! If a comparable facility would open up on the area these jokes would be out of business! Do not ever put a comment in the box, their response is deplorable, and I am leaving the club.

The club serves it's purpose but do not expect any perks. The monthly fees are expensive and nothing is offered to those who have been loyal customers. We have been members since it opened and I can not even obtain a couple of passes a year for my out of town family member to accompany me to the gym while visiting (about 5 times a year). They require a $20/day payment. Some of the services they provide I do not even need yet I pay full price. If there was another comparable gym in the area I would seriously consider it.

My husband and I were members of Great Lakes Athletic Club (GLAC) since 2003 (its inception). We enjoyed working out at the club, using the facilities, even signed up for personal training sessions on numerous occasions over the years and also availed ourselves of a few of their free group classes and seminars.

We recently relocated to another part of the state and so had to terminate our membership after giving a 30-day notice and filling-out the required paperwork at the club.

GLAC provides discounts on personal training packages whereby the more the member buys upfront, the bigger their discount. Due to our previous positive experience with the club re: this, we purchased 20 such sessions in January 2011. And at the time of membership termination, we had ~15 prepaid personal training sessions remaining on our account. When this was discussed via telephone with the Director of Personal Training on 06/27/2012, the trainer stated that upon discussing this with the supervisor, while refunds are typically not done, they would reimburse us 75% of the cost of the remaining sessions which was to be credited to our credit card they had on file. Text messages were also exchanged to this effect in August 2012. To date, no such refund has been issued.

While we understand GLAC's policies, when a verbal commitment has been given, it is completely unprofessional and bad customer service not to honor their word, especially to longstanding members who through their monthly membership fees and other purchased services, have supported the club for the years that we have.

Update: On 10/15/2012, GLAC finally made good on their verbal commitment and refunded 75% of the unused prepaid personal training sessions. It took a lot of prodding on ours and the personal trainer's part to get this refund.

In summary, I'd like to state that it isn't prudent to purchase too many such sessions in advance and let them sit unused for this long as personal situations change and too much money gets locked up, making refunds almost impossible to obtain.

This gym is a total rip off, all they want is your money. They always find ways to jack your rates up, or hit you with additional charges.

great club to hang out, friendly staff, nice members

no high pressure sales from the sales guys there, cool and down to earth which is rare. very professional.

great pools, club can get busy in the winter but not too busy

kids are controlled in child care, family like but not overrun with kids like a ymca.

been a member at Lifetime and thought joining here would be a downgrade but its an upgrade all things considered.

wish they had better cafe food but the smoothies are good

While a bit on the pricey side, GLAC is a great place to hang out with your friends and family. This club offers everything from swimming to rock wall climbing. I love the on site child care as well as the pools. The dressing rooms are really clean, the club is well lit and the equipment is either new or in good repair. I've never had a bad experience at GLAC.

I have been a member of Great Lakes for over three years. I find the club to have a good variety of equipment and activities. I have also found it to be kept very clean and well maintained. The raquetball courts are a nice addition to the club. The outdoor pool is a lot of fun, especially for kids aged 7-12 years. I would like to see the diving boards open more often during the early part of the day, during the week. The prices are similar to lifetime fitness and I personally would like to see more packages available for families that offer different options of use.
