I had a good time last time there. Mostly early 20's people which I am. John isn't there much and that's ok with us. Grooovy place to pose. Food is decent. can still smoke at the bar.

I now live in Phoenix AZ, when I come back to the D I stop by all of my old stopping ground bars. I Agree with the guy with the comment that "Even know the old place was a pit, it still had way more charecter than the new place" I will say that the food their is great, John said at the old place he would never serve food. Well never say never. I do like the new place yet when I come in John is not there much anymore, that was half of the allure to going to the old place. In addition, at the old place John would pour your drinks to a very stong acceptable level and drink allong with you. At the new place the drinks are frankly as week as those fancy bars in Birmingham. It is sad for me. So, although I like the new place and the jukebox is probably the best in America still, and having the internet at the bar is the best idea ever, I think John needs to teach his new bartenders to pour an "Honest John Drink" like back at the old place.

The first time I went to Honest John's with some co-workers, I was like, "We're going to drink in Cass Corridor? I want an after work drink, not an after work [fill in the blank]!" However, when I got there, the staff were friendly, the clientele mixed (the rich, the poor and every one in between) and the food and drinks were cheap. Please, where else can you get a shot and a beer (a Hoover) for $5? You'd have to buy it yourself at the liquor store. I strongly recommend this bar as an after work, after game or anytime meeting place. Leave the drama with your mama, Honest John is too crazy a guy to [blank] with.

This is decent place to go to have a drink and a decent meal. The cost is low and the service is really good. I really enjoyed my self the last time I went there. I would recommend this spot to others.

this is one of detroit's best bars because it's clean and it doesn't smell too bad. if you're looking for the perfect bar experience, go to honest john's and put $5 in the amazing jukebox, have a 40oz black label and drink it out of the bottle, order some veggie chili fries and smother them in mustard and hot sauce.

The staff and patrons are very friendly. The food is good and the menu has many selections. The prices and service are reasonable. It's usually packed around lunch time. I stop in often.

Honest John's is owned by an eccentric, charity minded "Cass Corrider" native. His business caters to the laid back and un-pretentious. It is definitely not at "Sports Bar". They offer locally brewed beers on tap. The menu is small but the food is good. They offer breakfast, lunch & dinner along with great "Daily Specials". They have a great junk box with music from the 60's up till the present. There is also inside and outside seating.

PROS: Secure parking in the back and at night you are escorted to your car.

I've been there for a couple of "mercy meals" as I like keeping my money in town. Walked out once due to lack of service. Now who walks out of a dive bar because of lack of service? I did come back because the burgers are so darn good, (and so is much of the menu) and when the arrive, the drinks are great.

Sure the "new" place is fancier, cleaner, roomier, more convenient, but the old place, scungy as it was, had character, a cat named Smurl, and a certain je ne s'ai quoi. Now the only consistent character it has is John Thompson, bless his heart...
