I went at Charisma Salon & Day Spa for first time and I found their staff to be very friendly, efficient and helpful. \nI went for hair massage and I felt very comfortable, relaxed and de-stressed. This was exactly what I needed after such a hectic week.\nI would go back and would absolutely recommend.

I went up to Michigan because of my hubby work. And for the weekend we had scheduled a friend's birthday party and family meeting, I, wanting to look flawless for the occasion, decided to get a haircut and a blow dry. Due to short time and roads covered of snow we looked for the closest salon to our hotel. \nMy hair was screaming haircut, my ends were terribly dry, almost impossible to style. However, I took myself in an adventure with a picture of how I wanted to look like.\nWhen we got there, we met Dolly. A very nice hairstylist that understood everything I wanted like if she could read my mind, i sat there and she turned my chair against the mirror, when she was done. I couldn't believe it. I was looking exactly like in the picture or even better. I am so happy with my new haircut and I can not be thankful enough. She did such a great job I would just cross the states just for her to cut my hair again.\nIn other words, I highly recommend Dolly, she knows what she does.

I have been going to Meredith at Charisma for years. She is the best! She is hard to get in to see on short notice because everyone loves her, but that is the only downside. She always gives me a great cut and color. I moved over 90 miles away from Charisma, but still schedule my appointments for when I will be in the area because I don't want anyone to mess with my hair but Meredith.

Stay away from Charisma Salon. 1) When I scheduled my haircut I asked how much it would cost for a cut...I was told $35.00. When I checked out it was $45.00 and I did not even have my hair styled/dried. What a joke. 2) I was not even in the chair for FIVE minutes and the hairstylest had five products lined up in front of me as ""MUST HAVES"". She spent 45 minutes with me and only 10 minutes was cutting...the rest was selling product. 3) When I checked out I wanted to put my tip on my credit card. I was told that I could not and I had to pay cash or write a check. That would have been nice to know ahead of time as I did not have cash. I was told by the kid at the front desk to go to the ATM in the mall. I would not recomment this place to anyone. Save your money. I don't make $45 in 45 minutes...why should I pay someone that much to trim my hair and not style it?? Women need to stand up to these high priced salons...$45 for a haircut....really!

I found Charisma on WDIV Click On 4 Best of Detroit - The staff at Charisma is very friendly, efficient, and very helpful. Nicole, my eyebrow waxing specialist at Charisma, is the best in the metro Detroit area hands down. I have never come across another person who comes close to her and the job she does! She is very friendly, professional, and enthusiastic about what she does. She makes you feel comfortable and is always focused on you. She definitely makes you look your best and I would recommend her to everyone!\n\nI going back next time for a Massage and Pedicure and order the lunch that the Marriott Hotel brings in from Sweet Lorraine's - Yum

Pros: Really a Day Spa

.

I was in the area on business and hadn't had a chance to fix myself before I got there for my meetings because I had been traveling so long. Actually I was quite a mess and was delighted to find the salon I picked didn't make me feel that way on the way to getting it (myself) together!

My services were the best, which I expected, and the staff was completely charming. I not only received a description of the services available, I received a guided tour of the many possibilities! The salon has a surprising amount of space with massage, laser therapy and facial rooms just to name a few.

The salon is warm and welcoming, and the people are both skilled and have manners!!! WOW I WILL be back!

Nothing at this establishment is handled professionally. Atmosphere is by no means comforting. Expensive with poor quality result. Does not value clients or employees.

I have been to charisma about 7 or 8 times in the last 5 years. Sometimes for hair and for massage. I have no complaints about my massages, but my hair has been over proseced, and literally falling out of my head in handfulls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know i am not a regular client, but I keep thinking this time will be different, (my sister loves Dolly) Now when I call I can not get an appointment with Dolly, she is to busy. So I give up. The last time i was there, the front desk totally ignored me, and had a five minute conversation, before they acknowledged me!!! I'm sorry, but im going to give my money to PROFESSIONALS!!!!!!

I got a gift certificate for a massage. Kathy was wonderful. She took the time to explain what she was going to do. I felt very comfortable. She asked to make sure the pressure was just right, which it was.I was so relaxed and de-stressed when she was done. It was exactly what I needed after such a rough week.I would absolutely recommend her. I already booked my next appointment before I left.

Okay, had i read the reviews on here i would have thought twice about going. I received a gift certificate. Like some of the other reviews, there was a snotty receptionist at the front desk, but sitting next to another very nice one. My stylist was also the owner. He was very nice, professional and explained everything to me and why. He did not push his salon's products on me. \n\nMy hair looks nice. I had full foil highlights and a hair cut and style. My hair is a little shorter than I wanted but if you had seen the condition of my long hair when I went in there it is obvious that more than just a trim was necessary.\n\nAll in all, good! I would go back.

I first went to Charisma for my prom hairdo when I was in high school. My husband and my daughter go there and now my granddaughter. I have tried other salons and when go to Charisma the only time I get compliments on my highlights and haircut. Everyone there is trained with the foil technique the owner has invented. It's worth going to know you won't be disappointed. My fav's are Mary, best eyebrow waxing. Sada and Meredith for hair cuts and highlights.

I WENT TO THIS SALON TO GET A PERM BUT CAME OUT WITH A MINI MOHAWK!! THE STYLIST WAS FOREIGN & HAD TO KEEP READING THE BOX FOR DIRECTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT THEN. SHE KEPT PUTTING ME BACK UNDER THE DRYER FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER. THEN HER TEENAGE DAUGHTER SHOWED UP & ALL ATTENTION WAS OFF OF ME OF COURSE. SO AS THEY CHATTED IT UP, MY HAIR PAID THE PRICE. WHEN MY HAIR WAS ""DONE"" SHE SCRUNCHED IT & SPRAYED IT & SAID THE CURL WOULD GET BETTER. WHEN I GOT HOME, I LOOKED & FELT CLOSELY & EVERYWHERE SHE SQUIRTED THE SOLUTION, MY HAIR HAD TOTALLY BURNED OFF & IT FELT LIKE A BUZZ CUT. WHEN I ASKED 2 TALK 2 A MANAGER, THE SNOT AT THE DESK SAID HE COULD NOT COME 2 THE PHONE & I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK IN SO THEY COULD SEE IT. YEAH RIGHT. INSTEAD I TOOK MY OWN PICTURES & WENT RIGHT 2 THE COURTHOUSE . WHEN I FILED THE SMALL CLAIM, THERE WAS A LIST OF OTHER COMPLAINTS AGAINST THEM ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN. ANYWAY, CHARISMA ENDED UP SETTLING BEFORE IT WENT TO COURT & THEY GAVE ME MY $115 BACK. OH DID I MENTION THAT MY HAIR WAS STRAIGHT AS A BONE 2 DAYS LATER? AND WITH A MINI MOHAWK. I LOOKED LIKE JOE DIRT! THEY SHOULD PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS & PERMS FOR SOME AA MEETINGS.

I went to this salon because I was given a gift certificate. First, I walked in and got ignored by snooty 20-yr-olds who forget they're working in a mall store. Then I had to sit with everyone else on a low ottoman that is right in front of the receptionist's desk. It was uncomfortable, there was nothing to read except old, falling-apart hair magazines, and I kept getting kicked by people walking by.\r\n\r\nMy stylist was 20 minutes late and proceeded to tell me she was hung over from too much partying. Lovely. Throughout the whole appointment she was yakking to the other stylists about her boyfriend. Before she even got to the blowdry, they told her her next appointment was there, so she had me bend over and tried to just shoot the stream of hot air against my head. It was blowing into a big ball of frizz and I thought surely she was going to fix it. Nope! When I straightened up she took out a big can of hair spray and began spraying. I was dumbfounded. It looked like I had been caught in a rainstorm, and then electrocuted. I insisted she fix it and she was PO'd. She was yanking on my hair really hard and straightened some parts and not others. It was truly ridiculous. Now it was my turn to be POed. She got ZERO tip, and when they gave me the gc back with the remainder on it, I tore it up in little pieces and let it fly all over the floor.\r\n\r\nI went home and rewashed my hair, and to my horror it was all uneven and chopped up. Please, no one go to this horrible salon. The positive early reviews were obviously written by the salon itself.

I was given a gift cert. for a manicure and pedicure when my son was born. It took me almost a year to make the arrangments; I took a day off work, and hoped for a few hours of relaxation. What a joke! The appointment started 15 minutes late. (After I arrived 10 minutes early) She began the pedicure by telling me she was ill and shouldn't have come to work. After over an hour of trying to do the pedicure while ill,she had someone else finish. \r\n The pedicure was good, but I never got the manicure! I had been there for over two hours and never got to the manicure. The entire appointment was scheduled for two hours! \r\n When I checked out, I mentioned that I didn't get the manicure. (which they tried to charge me for) I was told it was a shame my tech was sick. THAT WAS IT! No effort to try to reschedule, and since the gift certificate was about to expire I didn't have time to take a second day off to reschedule the appoinment. \r\n I tossed the gift certificate in the trash! It was better than setting foot in that place every again!!!

I have to agree with Renee47. I have gone to Charisma 3 times. I liked my first cut and color, but when I called to book with that sylist again, she no longer worked there. My second visit with Brandi, I again liked my cut and color. However, on that visit, I also made an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed. I keep my brows a little thicker, but I have been told before that they are a really nice shape. Most true professionals will tell you to work with your natural shape. The girl who waxed my eyebrows (can't remember her name) took way too much off. They are now freakishly thin. The next time I had a cut & Color was with Sadah, and like renee47, I got a lopsided cut. My bangs were just a mess:cut further back on one side than the other, and had longs wisps on one side but not the other. Not going back for round 4!

While Charisma does offer a lot of services, I tried two stylists on a couple of occassions and decided the place was just not for me. Both stylists were habitually late (4 visits). The last time I visited, Fiona gave me the worst haircut ever....we're not talking, ""I'm not feeling glam"" horrible, we're talking lopsided lengths as well as poor haircolor. Their conversations are unprofessional as they seem more interested in discussing last night's party or fight with their boyfriends with other stylists instead of focusing on their clients. Make-up is applied while the client is sitting on a stool in poor lighting, right in front of the receptionist desk and waiting area. There are better salons in the area for the $$

I have been going to Charisma in Laurel Park Mall since it opened. Most of my friends and relatives go there as well. Charisma's Day Spa is a great place to relax, seperated from the rest of the salon. Charisma has won awards before and this one from Allure Magazine 2006 is awsome. Charisma is open 7 days and has over 50 employees, like 5 massage therapist, 3 facial specialist, 2 make-up artists, 8 manicurists, and then a lot of great hair stylists and assistants.

CHARISMA DAY SPA AND SALON has been my salon since I was kid. Now they are voted best in Detroit. I always thought they were the best and I send all my friends and family here. My husband and the kids come together and I go to Charisma to relax with a pedicure or massage when I come to get my hair cut and color. There are special promotions on certain days for products and they carry everything like Matrix and Paul Mitchell, Burts Bees, Aveda and more.

I started going to Charisma Day Spa when I was planning my wedding. Charisma put it all together for me with a evening with my bridal party in the Spa with pedicures and nails and champange. On the day of the wedding my bridal party all had their hair and make-up done. It was great there were two other brides there having there hair, make-up and vail put on at the same time. \n\nI still drive a bit to get to Charisma but its' worth it. I must pass a hundred salons to get there. I love my stylist, my manicurist and the facialist.\n\nI can get my hair and nails done, meet my friends at one of the restaurants and shop all in the same place. Love my hair cut and color. I receive complements all the time. Charisma has been around for 40 years with the best proffessionals in business. When I can I love to pamper myself in the Day Spa with a pedicure and a facial. I have been sending my friends here for years. Now the new award from Allure Magazine makes me proud to go to the best.

I went here for a massage and haircut. I enjoy a deep pressure during my massage and mention it while I set up the appointments. I was told no problem. The massage therapist said otherwise, that she doesn't do that, and yes, I was to keep the appointment. (They have a cancellation policy). I thought I would try it out reluctantly. She then made me late for my haircut appointment. Haircut was okay- nothing out of the ordinary. Expected more.

I think Charisma is a nice salon, and Merideth gave me a great cut but for $45, the price was a little too steep for me. I've had good cuts at JCPenny for half the price. I feel the customer is paying for the custome paint job back by the sinks and for the high priced rent at Laurel Park Place. I don't think I'll go back even though I did like my stylist.
