After reading an interesting review of this place in Lake Superior Magazine, we searched it out. (hidden under the International Bridge, it is really difficult to find) Generous-sized fresh hand-formed burger patties (not frozen) and large helpings of fries and onion rings (these are frozen) at affordable prices must be the attraction. From the exterior, the West Pier Drive-In is very uninviting. It probably hasn't had a coat of paint in 25 years. Old-fashioned curbside carhop service is featured - in a gravel parking lot. We chose to dine inside at the tiny lunch counter with five stools. The place is badly in need of basic maintenance, if not a complete renovation. Cleanliness is definitely not a feature of this place. The employees (working at the grill 6 feet in front of us) were unfriendly and didn't even communicate with each other. Yet, despite all of this, the place was busy. I would classify it as a local phenomenon: the neighborhood greasy spoon that serves tasty grease-dripping food, wrapped in paper, at cheap prices. It would be nice if they would clean up and spruce up the place out of respect for their loyal customers.

My cousins raved about this place and we finally tried it when we were visiting. Their burgers are huge and so delicious! A great place to stop and eat.
