Their motto is " we show you one and we sell you one" and if you go back to asking why is it so, the employee will make you wait for manager and will inform manager and he comes with a rude and careless voice and after two sentences he says what you bought is yours and conversation is over. I have never seen such a worst customer service and also such a worst management in any industry i have seen before. Save you trip and do not even considering stepping in there. Their ads make you visit the store but they are full of conditions which doesn't make sense They do not even deserve a single star. They lie before making a purchase and act as if they care for customer comfort until you buy, after things are brought, they don't care about you any more because they know their return policy is crooked and find some way to make you keep the faulty things they sell. There may be one or two good sales people but the 3-4 sales person and the manager i have seen are the worst, especially in the mattress section. they attitude changes and after purchase they dont even care to talk. worst furniture or mattress company i have experience so far. i regret not looking at he reviews before. shame on you guys

We purchased a Simmons Comfor-Pedic Mattress from Art Van. The king mattress was around $2000. In less than 2 years, the mattress is broken down and un-sleepable. We contacted the AV warranty department and they measured the drop. They said the compression was 3/4" and warranty replacement required 1 1/2". A couple weeks later, I went to the store to get warranty information from the sales dept. They told me 3/4". I questioned it and they contacted the Simmons rep while I was on the phone who confirmed it was 3/4". We went back to the service department. They pulled the report, and said yes it did have a 3/4" drop but because they noted a small stain on the pad, the warranty was void.

They sent a second tech who measured again, this time they measured the drop at 1/2". No spot, but not enough for a warranty replacement. They have made it clear their job is too do everything, but fix the problem.

The mattress is worthless and service is less even that.

Our next step is a lawyer.

Why is it that the majority of people who write a review are those who are unhappy? For Art Van Furniture to be as huge as they are and to be expanding and growing the way that they are, they MUST be doing something right...I have had excellent results from them. I did have some problems with the furniture that I bought, but their service was amazing! The people were helpful, the delivery guys were great, I got my couch back in better condition than it was in when I bought it when service was finished with it... On top of that, most of what they sell is MADE IN AMERICA and out of that a HUGE portion is MADE IN MICHIGAN. I say THANK YOU ART VAN FOR EMPLOYING SO MANY MICHIGANDERS AND FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE AMERICAN ECONOMY!

I give art van 0 stars. I had my furniture six months. the foot rest on all the bar stools fell off. The bed splintered at the henges. When I reported this to customer service they said it was because I moved the bed. I told I only moved the bed to make it up and in six months I had not had sex in it yet. I never heard of a bed you could not move to make it up. I bought my furniture before this 12 years ago at Value City. My children jumped on everything and I had no problems with anything. I only got rid of it because it was stained. now I have broken new furniture.

I worked for art van for 1 1/2 years, i was Constantly harassed. I told them for 2 months before the first of the year that i was getting health insurance finally and i may have to take a few days off for doctor visits. I did just that, 2 months after my absences that i had told them about months before hand they call me into the office and tell me that I'm being terminated due to excessive absences. I was made fun of every day by my co workers there. Every time i brought it to a managers attention they brushed it off and told me to go back to work. And to top it all off they threaten me by saying I'll never collect unemployment and if i do they'll sue me and make me pay it back.

Overall this company is very terrible. Inside and Out.

Have nothing positive to say about Art Van,,,waited 12 yrs to give them a second chance & yet again~they blew it with POOR treatment!!! They should be shut down, I honestly feel stupid for even giving them a 2nd chance, I KNEW better from the first time they mistreated me & I lost THOUSANDS of $$$. I will make sure I tell everyone of my NEGATIVE NEGATIVE experience with them & how awful they treat the consumers...grrrr! The Art Van stores in Genesee Co. (FLINT) are the worst!!

Sales people still wait to attack you at the door, they make you feel uncomfortable as you look. A delivery charge of $90. for 8 1/2 miles - ridiculous! On the phone employees are rude. I will pay more for better service. Won't step into the store ever again! They don't have any idea as to what "customer service" means. Have a feeling they won't be around much longer...store wasn't even crowded.

Art Van is saying they would like to send me out furniture that will meet my expectations. I am going to give it one more try before I call it quits. Crossing my fingers.

Art Van is a bunch of thugs. Years ago, I worked for Art Van (owned by Archie Van El Slander, that's his real name!). Managers even coached us to lie and shove the Home Warranty, Fabric Protection, Leather Protection, and Extended Warranty down customers' throat. They call them "Value Added products" but they have no value because they are not needed by customers at all. The only reason they want their salespeople to sell them is because the managers get fat checks at the end of the month while they do not deliver on their promise. You should also look at their advertisement deception. I do not know how they get away with this? Maybe Archie pays someone off. They tell you mattresses are 50% off, but for 5 years prices were exactly the same--exorbitant!!! Don't believe me and do this experiment by yourselves. Check the prices before and after their "Big Blowout Mattress Sale"! You will see that the prices are the same, always discounted at 50%! What a shameful lie. Furthermore, they tell you in their ads that you will get up to 70% off in the entire store; it turns out that the only item that is discounted at 70% is some small lamp or Clearance Center damaged piece of wood. They just want to bring you to the store where you end up spending more than you anticipated.
Oh, and when they say you get 50% off, they mean off the original price or "compare at price" that some store somewhere in Michigan or out of State tagged and inflated 15 times over. Example, a couch's "compare at" price they tag at $2000.00, so their 50% Sale price would be $1000.00, not $500.00! They make 1000% profit when they purchase that couch from China for only $50.00!!!!If you go to Art Van store the week after the Sale is over (which never ends because they have a sale every day!!!!!), you will find out that the couch is tagged at $1000.00 again, or maybe $1100.00. That's the mirage and deception they sell us.
We are not falling for Art Van tricks and unethical business anymore practices. You can be sure of that, Archie.

To Jason G. who said "The moment you enter a store, your sales person bombards you. There are normally half a dozen sales people waiting by the front door for their next unsuspecting victim. If you want to simply browse the store, you will be watched and visited by your commission-hunting sales person several times to check up on you". I say:
As an Art Van former employee, I am sorry you feel that way about us but the managers are the real Gestapo who you should blame . You must see the amount of pressure they exerted on us to sell products that you don't need like Warranties and Home Care. Oh, by the way Art Van doesn't allow employees to drink their coffee (they accused us of stealing) or even bring their own coffee makers to make coffee in the kitchen because they will be accused of stealing electricity from Archie Van (who makes $600 Million a year)!!! How is that for a Gestapo? We used to stand and working for 12 hours per day on end (sometimes till midnight), not allowed to sit on the furniture, and unable to leave one minute before quitting time! One minute!!! They paid us $10.00 per hour (no overtime), then they turned around and took the money back when they paid our monthly commission. So, it is strictly commission and the worst job in the world. In return, you have to have a meeting daily and be there half hour before they open their doors, and help them with tagging every week and inventory twice a year--for free. It's slave labor in action.
After this, do you still think we are vultures or Archie El Slanderer and his satanic cronies are the vultures??

This company does not stand behind its products. The have deceptive advertising. We were tricked into buying a clearance bed--for $1600.00. The deceptive advertising was that the bed was initially $5,000, marked down to 2500, then 1600. When the bed proved defective and they would not return it ( like Tammy, the service person said we were off by a quarter inch on the bed sink/string test) -- I was told on the phone that the bed initially sold for 2500--not 5000. We could have bought a non clearance bed--to add insult to injury, we paid an extra $70.00 to insure us for a year so this wouldn't happen to us! The bed we got would be fine if only one person slept in it--but one side is caved in (its a foam mattress). Plus it jiggles so badly that its like being shaken awake. The technician admitted this , and also that the string test is silly for foam mattress--so what. Nobody cares.
Do not buy from this store. Do not trust their prices as real. And do not pay for extra meaningless insurance! I hate this store every morning I wake up exhausted from sleeping on my mattress from hell.

We spent 3000 dollars on furniture on July 3th and were told that we did not have to pay sales tax and could receive a free plasma TV. We did get the deal of the plasma tv but we did not know that the salewoman did not waive us sales tax. We called Art Van twice to contact with our salewoman. No return call from her. So we went to Art Van hoping to solve the problem. The salewoman said we were not qualified to waive sales tax becasue we chose to get a free tv. We think what she is doing is called cheating/dishonest. I don't trust what she said. Has anyone known about this deal? Thanks.

After a snafoo with ordering online, we called the warehouse in Warren and were told the coffee table we wanted was, in fact, in stock. After measuring our vehicle, we were absolutely certain we had enough room (with room to share for packing materials). When the loading dock guys brought the table out, it was obvious from the way they were grunting to move the box that the piece was way too heavy for my husband and I to move by ourselves. So, we had them put it back and and went in and paid for delivery. We were told they could deliver it the following week within a 4 hour time window on the appointed day. When I inspected the piece, I found a corner damaged, the lift mechanism wasn't working right and there were big chunks of fiber board inside most of the drawers. It was obvious the piece had been dropped at some point. I requested an exchange, which they were to have done yesterday. When the truck arrived, I met them at the street to inspect the replacement table. In the process I found a drawer on the new unit that wasn't working right. When the delivery man tried to get it working right, a ball bearing fell out of the drawer. He then offered to switch out the drawer track with the other table to see if he could get it to work. That didn't work either, so I had delivery take back both the original table and the replacement table. The delivery guy said he'd give the office my number and have them call me right away to schedule a delivery of a 3rd table. I waited until the middle of the next day and never heard from them. I called and was told that they could deliver the newest table on Thursday but I had to wait until Wednesday to get a call to tell me what time window they had selected for me to receive the table. (I apparently get no choice.) After my second complaint call, the manager, "Brenda" made it clear by every word she said that she couldn't care less about the fact that this would be the 3rd time we had to schedule a delivery and upend our lives. She wasn't the slightest bit interested in figuring out a way to make me happy. You would think that if there were this many problems, they would be worried about customer retention and bad press. I was really hoping they could stick the new table in a truck and just deliver the dumb thing and be done with it. Apparently, Art Van doesn't think outside the box about anything. I felt like a bother to Brenda, a problem to the store, and even worse, I felt they did not value my business at all. Art Van may be big and reasonably priced with most of their merchandise, but they have a long way to go with customer satisfaction. I will NEVER buy from them again. By the way, I still don't have my coffee table.

I have dealt with art van numerous occasions and i ask myself why did i do that everytime. I guess it is the convient factor but everything i purchase falls apart. It is never under warranty anymore. This last experience was no different. I purchased a couch and loveseat. The cushion started coming undone at the seam and they replaced it. About 8 months later, the new cushion began to do the same thing. Now i have to pay for service call and to replace the cushion on my own. I was told that the fabric had 2 year warranty but sales person lied.

It has been my experience with Art Van that there has been a real effort to make guests feel comfortable with the shopping experience. If someone came into your "home" you would greet them at the front door and welcome them in. Art Van usually has a manager positioned at the entrance to give a proper welcome and then the guests are introduced to a sales consultant whose sole purpose is to help the guests have the best experience possible as well as find solutions to their home furnishing needs.

Sales associates are people with all kinds of backgrounds, skills and knowledge that is meant to be helpful to guests, not pressure to make a sale. Next time you visit an Art Van give a smile to the sales person who greets you and if you want space to browse, just ask! Sales people are generally very firendly and want to make you feel comfortable. The ONLY reasons a salesperson may stay within your view is to be available in case you have a question (furniture can't talk!) and to ensure that another salesperson doesn't help you in their place. Sales people take turns greeting guests and there are just a handful of opportunities for them to meet guests in a given day. This is how they make their living and it is commission only. Whether the sale happens THAT DAY or another, I think all the sales people want really is the opportunity to work with you and develop a relationship and repoire. They want the chance to either help you while you are in the store or be able to give you a card in hopes that they made a positive impression on you so that you will ask for them in the future.

Sales people at Art Van are not vultures ready to pounce, they are wonderful people and trained experts ready and willing to serve your needs.

If you think shopping with Art Van is bad you should try having to deal with them on a daily basis as a spouse of an employee. If there is anyone treated worse than the customers that keep them in business, its the employees that try to serve the customers! It is a wonder to me how they stay in business with the deplorable service they give but based on how they treat those they employ its no wonder turnover is high and morale is low. The corporate level is the worse and we know poor leadership results in poor service and productivity.

Don't shop Art Van!

On 1-9-2010 my wife and I went to buy a materss in Art Van, we made a selection of a model that the seller told us that they just began selling, it looks ok and suposed to meet out spectations.
The product was deleivered on 1-14-2010 and does not seem to have eny problem, we were a little bit surprissed that the matress did not had the foundation frame where it supposed to lay on, we called on 1-15-2010 and inquire for it and they told us that is for sale at $80.00, we decided to buy it in another store, the same onse for $40.00.
On 2-16-2010 we went to complaint at the store and the seller told us that the manager was busy and could not talk with us. He isntructed her to contact the service department to come to my house to measure and investigate my complaint, at this time I had pictures of the defective product but they did not wanted to see them because they were not service and they can not do anything until the report by their service department was filed.
Service visit was secheduled to happen on 2-24-2010 and the service technician doid not showed up, we went again to Art van to talk with the seller and she told us thet her manager was very upset with service and that he will intervine to make the service visit to happen quckly, this did not happen, service visit was scheduled again on 3-11-2010, we tried to get the visit earlier but they were not able to do it.
I complained two times on thei site and responded me that the service was scheduled to be on 3-11-2010. I sent them the pictures also.
The service technician finally came on 3-11-2010 and determine that the matress is OK wich is not.
I talked by ohone with a cistomer service representative and she told me that they can not do anything now, I inquired for the specification of the product where it shows that 1.25 inches sink on each side of the bed after 30 days of use is ok and she told me to talk directly with the manufactruer and gave me the phone number 1-866-233-3464 which I did not called.
THE WORST STORE THAT I EVER DEAL WITH, BUNCH OF LIARS AND CLOWNS.
I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH ATTRNEY GENERAL.

BEWARE OF ART VAN !!!!! I bought a mattress from there less than 1 year ago. The mattress was a $1600.00 mattress. Within weeks of delivery I felt like every time I layed on it I was leaning towards the middle of the mattress, no matter what side of the bed I layed on. I recently called them to have someone come and look at the bed. This is what they do-they take a piece of string and lay it over the mattress. If there is an indent anywhere they measure how deep it is. It has to be one and a half inches to be considered defective. My mattress measured one and one quarter inches of an indent, so it's a quarter inch shy of being considered defective, after only 11 months of owning it. So now I am going to have to call someone out every couple of months to recheck it until that last quarter inch !!! They DO NOT LAY ON THE BED, NOR DO THEY PUT ANY KIND OF WEIGHT ON THE MATTRESS TO CHECK HOW FAR IT SINKS IN WHEN THERE IS AN ACTUAL PERSON ON IT !!! THEY ONLY LAY A PIECE OF STRING ACROSS YOUR BED !!! DON'T BUY A MATTRESS THERE, YOU WILL BE SORRY !!!

Our Art Van experience was brutal. They are liars and cheats and not to mention thieves. Our furniture had still not arrived after 90 days so we went to the store to find out why. We were hell bent on getting compensated for out delay as this bedroom was our Christmas present to each other. We had recently seen another ad about a free TV. We wanted this tv for our inconvenience. After they had already over-charged us for one piece of furniture by over $200 AND charging us both Michigan sales tax and Ontario GST, they had the audacity to offer us the $200 back on the already ON SALE item plus an additional $200 - which was the amount owing us for the over charge on double dipping of the sales tax. What a slap in the face and shame on us for not noticing at the onset. What a slap in the face. And the sales personnal at the Novi store leave much to be desired. They were ignnorant, rude and unprofessional. How does a multi million dollar business such as this conduct theirselves in such a fashion? We demanded our money back and had to spend another hour waiting around for KEVIN HESS and his inabilities to orchastrate this simple request. He continually walked away from us to go and speak to 'the puppet master' who was elusively hiding behind door #3. Each time he just turned his back and walked away without telling us where he was going and jsut left us there in the middle of the store hanging.....what a jack ass! The accounting errors made on our invoices were unbeleivable. They tried to rip us off for another $100 on the money they owed us becasue of the complete breakdown they have in their accounting department and order desk. The tiem that my fianxce and I spent in this store buying and cancelling our order was well over 6 hours. How disugusting. Did KEVIN HESS think that every time he left the room that we would just leave? What a fool...because we are far from done with this man. Our first course of action will be the Manager of the Novi Sotre...then the Corporate Office and then on to the BBB. And if we get no response from anyone then on to the Attorney General. This was by far the worst shopping experience we have ever had. Had the unprofessional folks at Art Van just taken care of us and not made us to feel that this was our fault because the furntiure was made in China.........we would have walked out of that store last night a whole lot happier today. Instead they have created a personal trek to make sure that everyone knows about the service and poor ethical standards this business portrays to the BUYING public. The ones that line their pockets. How stupid can a corporation be? They lost a sale of over $3000 - yes a small daily pitence in Art Vans over all bottom line - but this one will run far deeper than that. LOSERS!

In the past I spent thousands of dollars at Art Van--bedroom furniture, livingroom furniture, etc. But never again. I was opening an office and went in on a Monday to buy something advertised in their Sunday ad. The sales person told me they were out and that I would have to order it at the non-sale price. There is a reason why there are so many negative reviews for Art Vann. They are lousy business people. Stay away. Plenty of other businesses that will give you quality merchandise at a reasonable price and good customer service also.

The poor delivery service I received from the Art Van in Lansing, Michigan was unsatisfactory. My bedroom furniture was not delivered within the time permitted. When the furniture finally made it to my home the chest was missing, after I had been waiting all day at home. Then Art Van has the nerve to charge me $70.00 for delivery after they wasted my time, and didn't give me all of my furniture pieces advertised, which I am still waiting to receive. When I contacted the supervision about the situation he just said, "He??ll look into the matter". This was just his way of being an arrogant bastard because, I know for a fact the matter will not be given a second thought. This problem could have simply been resolved if I was offered at least delivery compensation. So I would advertise anyone thinking about making a purchase from Art Van Furniture not to. The company does not care about the interest of the customer. All they care about is the mighty dollar. The more customers they loose, their bound to go out of business for good.

Always read the fine print. All discounts are from an imaginary "compare at" price. Art Van credit is at 24% and 25% APR which used to be defined as usury before banks and business got together to increase consumer debt.

Sales people at Art Van are overworked and underpaid. A $10 per day (5 days per week) salary is paid with straight commission sales being the bulk of income. Workers are forced to hand over "guests" to senior sales people if they haven't closed a sale withing 10 or fifteen minutes and share the sale with them. With a customer that requires more attention, but would buy anyway, this severely reduces income potential for new hires, while increasing income for "senior" salespeople.

While the high pressure initial contact has been reduced by policy, the high pressure now is on the salesperson to meet often unrealistic goals of "add-ons" - cleaning products, extended warranties, etc. These also carry quotas for the salesperson.

In all Art Van is a very stressful place to do business as a customer or an employee. I would not recommend them to anyone.

i recently had a break in at my house and went to art van for prices to replace my furniture. the two sales people would not give me anything in writing unless i gave them a $30.00 deposit. they said i could get my money back if i cancelled the order. i told them my house was vandalized and money was taken and i did not have any cash on me. they told me to put it on my credit card . well needless to say i left there. i went next door to gardner white and walked out with an estimate in writing.

I was disappointed to find out when my husband and I went to Art Van Clearance Warehouse to find out that the furniture advertised was not available.

First, my husband and I were told it was available and when we went to make a down payment we were told only the loveseat and chair was available and not the couch. Also, we were told a telephone follow up would be inititated to notify if the couch had came in. No, response, no follow up and/or phone call as promised by the sales representative.

Unsatisfied Customer,

Stay away from Art Van Furniture!! Their sales persons promise discounts and other goodies. But, when you go to the payment counter, the manager cites company policies or plays other slick tricks to avoid giving you those discounts....oh, and not to mention the rude behavior of some of their managers....

So, yes the saleswoman was annoying, but the couch was good looking. I pay 50 dollars for someone to deliver it and when they get here they take one look at it, tell me no, and drive away. They didnt even tell me they were leaving. I called and told them to come back at least try and they said they wouldnt. I also had to fight to get back the delivery fee. Terrible service. Ill never shop here again.

We recently visited the Artvan showroom at westland, MI. A salesperson was helping us with out sofa selection. when asked for the final price, the sales person referred us to a floor manager called 'Kelley'. This person was not only rude, also insult us by telling us that we were cheap for asking a bargain. This is not worth spending your money at.

Recently we visited this store and bought a Lane recliner which we left at the store so they could apply fabric protection. Upon return to pick up our chair , we were told it had been sold to someone else. The sales person told us she had another exact chair being delivered for us. Another week goes by we go back only to find they had switched our chair for a clearance chair worth alot less because it was damaged they only offered us $50.00 refund on a chair that was marked $100.00 less then we had already paid. After I made a very large scene our money was refunded. I have since filled a formal complaint with the Attorney Generals office. Which resulted in a phone call from the store manager offering me $100.00 store use for my inconvenience....Please beware !!!!!!!!!!!

Art Van is a Michigan furniture chain that has many showrooms, the largest of which are located in Lansing and Grand Rapids, MI. I have mixed feelings about Art Van, because as their prices are more affordable than visiting say, a Lay-z-Boy or Ethan Allen furniture store, their service is rather annoying.

The moment you enter a store, your sales person bombards you. There are normally half a dozen sales people waiting by the front door for their next unsuspecting victim. If you want to simply browse the store, you will be watched and visited by your commission-hunting sales person several times to check up on you.

Thats annoying, but the prices are reasonable. Just be sure to purchase the warranty, as sometimes their furniture seems to spontaneously fall apart after a few weeks of wear and tear.

PROS: Great Selection of Furniture
CONS: Pesky Sales Folks

Art Van Furniture and Clearance Center has a great selection of furniture at very low prices. The quality ranges from Natuzzi leather to Sauter so there is something for everyone. The selection of children's furniture is vast. They offer many finance options. I received attentive and fast service and my furniture was delivered the next day in wonderful condition. Lots of parking and located in a convenient area.

This is a really nice furniture store. It's set up very well, easy to get around. The sales associates are very helpful, offering their assistance and beverages as soon as you enter the door. While the prices are slightly high, they have a nice credit deal and their clearance center prices can get you whole bedroom sets, livingroom sets, or just individual pieces at clearance prices.

I like shopping at Art Van Furniture because they have a lot to choose from. What I don't really like is that the sales associates are at the door waiting for you when you walk in the door. The quality is OK.
