Pros: Gretat family atomosphere

Cons: Sometimes they are short-staffed

a great place for mexican food it is excellent.but dont go down there unless you are loaded even in the daytime, the crime is so bad all the regulars have left.to many robberies and muggings going on.they have guards but it doesnt seem to be doing any good, too bad it will ruin thier business.we use to go down all the time for the mexican festival and the things they did down there.not any more we steer clear.

I've been dining here for 35 years and have had only one ""questionable"" experience. It was probably 25 years ago & we had a big party. (more than 10 people) The tip was automatically added to the bill (15%) without anyone informing us this would happen. We would have tipped alot more but figured since we were forced into what is normally an elective decision we left without leaving a tip at all. Just what was added to the bill. The food is FABULOUS! Always has been. The service is great. It's a little noisy at times but the experience is worth it. We've had to wait for a table at times but that just tells me the food there is worth it. If it wasn't any good, people would not keep going back! Be sure to try the Margaritas. The Golden Margarita is OUTSTANDING & well worth the price. Always had friendly service & ample parking.

I love this food. During the summer I go there quite often. I always have left overs and the drinks are great. The staff are so nice and lets you know what good deals are going on. I would recommend this place to others who are looking for good Mexican food.

I have always loved Mexican Village since I was a child... Until recently were told by the Hostess Lucella that my 3 year old son was being too disruptive(if you call dropping a spoon accidentally... disruptive). She then suggested that we take our son and leave. I have never been so publicly embarrassed. So i left with out paying and only had eaten 1/4 of my meal. I WILL NEVER GO BACK

This place is awesome! They have cozy corners and lovely atmosphere, a full bar and food to rave about. Service is always fast and friendly. Try the chunky beef Mexican sandwich, a specialty only available at Mexican Village or the shredded beef fried flour tacos, delicious! Or the Nachos with fried flour chips instead of the standard corn chips for a change. Anything your mouth desires is made to perfection at this well established restaurant. I used to work downtown and we ordered carry out once a week, now I go whenever I get the chance. It's hard to visit Detroit and not stop at Mexican Village.

I have frequented Mexican Village since I was a child but tonight, at 5pm, we were told by the Hostess Lucella that our 18 month old daughter got too much food on the floor - I explained that we always tip at least 50% and give the bus boy $20 on each visit - she said she didn't care. I further explained that I also have had parties for over 100 people at their restaurant - to no avail. She then suggested that we take our child and leave - So we did. I felt discriminated against and will never return and would recommend all to abandon this restaurant for others - I was very disappointed

In the past summer I have gone to three Mexican Restaurants on Bagley for lunch. I have ordered the exact\r\nlunch from all three. In my opinion, the Village beats X's and Town hands down. The ingredients of the\r\nmeal seemed more fresh and much tastier. Very eager waitstaff that delivered our meal fast and hot.\r\nAll around friendly staff and very comfortable surroundings.\r\nI have a few more restaurants to try, but the Village is the best so far.\r\n

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. Every time my sister comes in from town from college we go, birthdays we go, weekends when we just want some food we go. I have only been there once later on the weekend were we had to wait to be seated. Salsa is amazing and you seriously could drink it. My favorite menu item is the Chicken Chimi and if you try it, ask to have cheese melted on top, it makes it even better. You can get some salsa and chips to take home, however if you don't eat the chips warm they just don't taste as good so I would just get some chips from the store. On birthdays they'll sing and give you a free fried ice-cream. There's also one in Utica that's the same restaurant but you have to go the Detroit one once.

Love the food here. My husband and I both agree that it beats all of the other restaurants in Mexicantown. We both like that the food isn't heavy and covered in oil, like so many of the other restaurants in the area. The combination (made all chicken) is great, and with a few ala carte items is more than enough to share. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. Lighted parking with attendant (free for customers). Great prices as well.

Ive tried several restaurants in the area and there is no comparison to quality of taste and value for your money. Everyone that i have introduced to Mexican Village says its the best! The food is delicious and the alcoholic beverages are great as well as the desert, taco chips and dip and well you get the point.

I adore this restaurant. It has the absolute best Mexican cuisine the city, possibly the state has to offer. It's a shame the place is located in a terrible section of town, because I'm guessing a lot of people are scared off. Do yourself a favor. If you ever go to Detroit, GO HERE!

Inside the restaurant you're greeted with adobe walls and a beautiful fountain. The lighting is perfect, and the atmosphere is both wonderful for families and couples alike. Every table gets a batch of freshly made tortilla chips and homemade salsa, both the best I've ever tasted. Possible dinners include familiar Mexican fair, with Tacos, Burritos and Nachos taking center stage. There's plenty of other things too, but I'm a taco-addict, so I don't stray from the norm. Flaming cheese is to die for, and something I always make sure to get. The prices are neither cheap nor expensive, but you most certainly get what you pay for, if not more. HIGHLY reccommended!

PROS: Absolute best mexican food in town, near Comerica Park and Joe Louis Arena
CONS: In a dilapidated neighborhood

Great food, fast service, nice people, kid friendly, with some good kids meals choices. Don't just settle for the mild salsa, get the HOT! The area is not the best, but still feels safe!

If you truly want the BEST Mexican Food, this is the place to go in Mexican town! They have a huge menu selection, and a huge restaurant, we have never had to wait for a table. Service is always great, with an ample staff to make sure your dining experience is great! Try one of the many combo plates, you will get a little bit of everything, and you will still need a take home box! And if you order ice tea, they bring your glass along with a pitcher, so you don't have to keep bugging your server!

The BEST!! How else to describe it. Great prices, tons of food at top quality, and fast service in a clean atmosphere. Mexican food being my favorite, I'm pretty critical on this type of food and I have ZERO complaints about this place. Large facility means short wait times even with the line out the door. Visit this place every Friday. Recomend the Village Combo or the Burazzo!! Oh, and the Fried Ice Cream is to die for!!

When we have guests in town we take them to the Mexican Village Restaurant. The service has been lightning fast and the food was exceptional. The one negative is the location, although we are familiar with Downtown and the Mexican Village, the surrounding area is not that appealing.
