I was a satisfied customer of Ulmanis for over 14 yrs., but in July and August 2011 I took one of my dogs to have him checked for urination and defication issues. Dr. Bell took Xrays, blood and urine tests and said my dog showed no problems. I indicated he appeared to have a prostate issue, and he stated he checked the prostate and it was normal but never followed up to see how my dog was doing. He prescribed bland food and tranquiizers. I rejected these and I never heard from him again. In Oct 2011 I decided to take my dog to another vet. and he was immediately diagnosed with prostate enlargement and cancer. The doctor at the new vet. office brought out a book and read me a textbook description of prostate cancer exactly what my dog was experiencing. All these same signs were discussed with Dr. Bell in the first two visits, and it makes me wonder if he really ever checked my dogs prostate or took Xrays that he never showed me. Prostate enlargement cancer is very agressive and fatal. It is suppose to be common in dogs around 11, my dogs age, urine, blood and ultrasounds are methods of detection. Dr. Bell told me he wanted to work on one issue at a time, urination first, defication second. These two signs of trouble go together in prostate enlargement diagnosis and are related. How could Dr. Bell have missed the signs and why didn't he followup to see how my 11 year old dog was doing? My dog also experience significant weight loss, another sign, along with difficult urination and defication. Dr. Bell said he was normal even though my dog was going both ways every time he hit the ground and with difficulty. My dog died on Nov. 11, 2011 and I sent an email to Dr. Bell explaining the situation and asking him why he did not follow up and how he could have missed the diagnosis when the internet is full of the descriptive signs and my dog had all of them. Dr. Bell never responded to my inquiry. I spent 14 years with this vet and this lack of interest and lack of response to my dog's suffering and death is of upmost disappointment. Ulmanis may be fine for vaccinations, and general medical help, but if your dog has a serious issue, go elsewhere.

I tried to use a vet closer to home and have returned to Dr. Bell. A great vet with empathy. He is well worth the drive.

I am a pet lover who has a very high matanence dog. Dr. Bell and his staff are always available and so very knowledgeable. He has always been reasonable and make you feel like family. His staff and himself always take the time to explain and never rush you. I always feel like there only custumer when I am there. Dr. Bell and Stacey always call at home to check on us and keep us informed so promptly when our dog is there. I love Dr. Bell and his staff!!!!!

Pros: all pros!

I went to this vet office on a random pick out of the yellow pages after being thoroughly dissatisfied with the one visit that I made to the clinic in my neighborhood (North Oaks-boo!). This new clinic was about a 25 minute drive, but pleasant one so I can't complain. I was able to get in the same day I called, didn't wait more than 5 minutes to get into room. Staff was great, Dr. Bell was super and didn't rush things. I had 3 pet problems in one week, and they were all handled excellently. One cat was very deathly (?) ill with a virus and I was able to get an appt immediately. Cat stayed overnite for 2 days, I was able to talk to Dr. Bell every day on phone without getting any run around. The bill was very reasonable, there was no nickel and diming for everything (the North Oaks way of billing). I'm thrilled I found a friendly, reasonable vet on only my second try. I just hope they don't change. Thanks so much.

Pros: Big front office, short waits, accessible staff/Dr, no complaints at all

After my local vet office disappointed me and I had a sick cat and dog on my hands, I picked Ulmanis out of the phone book with crossed fingers. Lucky me, I made a good choice and felt I got good value along with excellent care. How often can you take a cat in for one thing and then be able to leave it for a dental? When a second cat got very very sick, I got immediate appointments and was kept up to date with the cats condition while it stayed there. Everything turned out good and I wasn't charged for everything little thing individually and felt I got a fair price. Certainly not the case I had at a vet clinic in Clarkston. Overall, I am very satisfied and confident with using this office.
