The owners Kelly and Suzana Chang are so wonderful at making you feel at home. The food is also very good. I have never been dispointed. The service was terrible. I don't dine out to meet the owner of a restaurant. I dine out for the food. Kelly and Susanah are fantastic people - one or both is always up front to greet and talk with guests. The food and service is consistently excellent, and it is one of the best restaurants in the area. The pricing is beyond fair, given the quality of the food, presentation, and atmosphere. Everyone I have referred this restaurant to has thanked me for giving them a new favorite place to eat. After a very run-of-the-mill meal, we realized we had been fooled. 'The decor is okay, I'd grade it: C. The service was fair. Another C. The resturant was rather empty which added to the forlorn feeling of the dinner. The bar action was more happening than the dining area. The food is way, way, below average. D-. Mark us down as two more people who do not understand the hype for this place. They must survive on the bar. Overall grade: D. Even our local friend finally agreed: this is really not the real deal. There seems to be a war about this restaurant between the 1 star and 5 star group. We are not taking any side. However, The China Cafe is nothing more than a 1 star dining experience. It made us realize the suburban Detroit area must have a dearth of good Asian places to eat if locals think this is terrific.
