I was recently in Detroit visiting family and stopped in at the Gold Coast on two separate nights - a Tuesday and Wednesday night. I have lived away from Detroit for over a decade and I am not as familiar with the gay scene as I used to be. Both nights the place had a good crowd going and the dancers were nice looking. The first night a younger looking attractive bartender was very attentive and made me feel very comfortable. The second night they were celebrating one of the older bartender's birthdays. That night as well the staff was friendly and very attentive as well. The dancers were all good looking. I was quite taken by a dancer named Josh. I thought he was absolutely adorable - nice face and body. He gave me a private dance both nights. Both dances were great. He took the time to chat with me. I turned out to be a totally cool guy - no attitude and intelligent.

On the downside, the neighborhood around the bar is SCARY. However, I remember it being scary back in the early 90s. It is unfortunate that so many of the gay bars in Detroit are in such lousy neighborhoods. The place also could use a bit of a remodel as the decor is a bit outdated.

Would I go back when I am back in Detroit? Definitely, especially if Josh is working cause I would love another dance.

We stopped into this club about about 1 year ago, after a little league game, the place was quiet, and not very busy. The club wasn't very inviting, and we definately wasn't ther long. It was brought to our attention that they thought it was a gay establishment, so we quickly left

So from the outside it looks like nothing special. But one you enter the doors, you forget that yourt in a bad part of detroit. The music is always something you know and can dance to. The dancers are always superb. The drag queens are top notch. And to most people, Gold coast is a cheers. I go there on off nights, and everyone knows my name. It makes you feel a sense of belonging. Its a sure must. The gay cafe is redone. Its very multi functional. Strip bar, CLub, and cafe. A must for anyone. Make sure you see Tori Lynn on Tuesdays and Fridays.
