Avoid Mid America Diesel and worse avoid Steve
They will sell you a brand new engine with warranty and they will ship you a engine with your own turbo , water pump and everything else removed from your core(old engine that you send them)
Then after they will never honor the warranty and will never paid for repair like they did to my company they sold my a complete brand new engine for 12k and after the engine was installed I spend another 6 k for replacing all the injectors because they were old and non working and Steve and his company never paid the repairs and he will not get back to me he's always on meeting and they will not return the emails that send them
Please read this and contact if you need proof to understand that a bad company and what a bad person Steve is

Jeffery L. Midwest Engine is NOT Mid America Diesel! My boss is Steve SR. You are talking about Steve JR. Totally different company. We have never done business with Jeffery L.

Steve from Midwest Engine is a complete con artist. He is a liar and a cheat... Totally my fault for not google-ing him before is wire transferred money to him. He claimed to have a block on the shelf that he would immediately start rebuilding. He promised a ten day turn around, however he later waited for my core to arrive and worked on it for two months. He never answers the phone and when he does he lies with statements like "it will be shipping this week!" I finally received the engine back with the same injectors I shipped it with, and it was painted gloss black? I said that's funny never seen that before. I later learned gloss black hides leaks that I had from virtually all gaskets. I completely wasted $ 14,000 + just on his services alone. Hope Steve gets hit by a truck !

Very poor customer service that is represented by what you would you think of as an absent minded person, but most likely a con artist. Misrepresents products as new, when they are used or reconditioned. Does not honor core refund ! Cannot solve problems or admit that they are at fault. Stay far away !!

This letter is to express our dissatisfaction with the work performed by Steve Spencer, owner of Mid America Diesel. The company is located at 414 N. Saginaw St., Holly, Mi. 48442.
We contracted with Larry Pryor, of National Power Supply to have two diesel engines rebuild for our customer in the Republic of Georgia. He subcontracted the work out to Mid America Diesel, and our relationship with them started with delays in meeting deadlines, and escalated to sub par workmanship and delivery times many months past the original due date.

When we finally received the engines at our Atlanta warehouse, we reshipped air freight (instead of Ocean Container, due to all the delays) at considerable extra cost to our company.

After the customer received the engines and tried to install, they did not work, had old hoses and other parts that should have been replaced, and are now in another shop being rebuild again. Needless to say, our customer refused to pay us for the engines.

While our out of pocket expense for Mid America and transportation cost is near six figures, it's not enough to go to court about. So, while we are realizing a sizable monetary loss with no real recourse, we do want other company's to be aware if they do business with Mid America they do not do quality work or meet their deadlines.

Business Response:

I Steve Spencer Sr., president of Mid America Diesel Inc, am writing this in response to the review posted by Alan G., regarding Mid America Diesel Inc. This review is false for the following reasons: first, Alan G. was never a customer of ours. Alan G. is a broker, who purchased his engine from Bob Smith at National Power Supply, who is also a broker. Alan G. purchased this engine for resale to a customer of theirs. Bob Smith, at National Power Supply, ordered the engine from our company (Mid-America Diesel Inc.). We made Bob Smith aware that the KTTA Cummins engine, that they ordered, could not be built because there were no KTTA cores available with any of our suppliers. We, in turn, recommended to Bob Smith, from National Power Supply, as well Alan G, that the KTTA engine could be substituted with a KTA Cummins engine. We explained, to both parties, that the engine block, crank, heads and horse power were the same and that this KTA could work as an alternative. We suggested that Alan G. notify his customer of these changes; Alan G. then contacted us at a later time and ok'd the order for the the KTA engine. The KTA engine was then built by Mid America Diesel Inc and shipped direct to Alan G. in Atlanta GA., as was agreed upon by all parties. It is our belief that Alan G. did not notify his customer of these changes and took it upon himself to ok and place this order. And upon his customer receiving the engine, they noticed that it was not the KTTA they originally agreed to and were upset. We were later contacted by Alan G. who communicated to us that his customer was unhappy and would not accept the engine. So we suggested that Alan G. send the engine back to us for a full refund. To this date we have had no further communication with Alan G., nor has the engine been sent back. We feel that we have done everything, ethically and morally, that we could have done, in an effort to rectify this matter.

I bought C-12 engine and it hasn't ran right from day one. Only 200 miles on the supposed remanufactured engine and it was leaking oil from the turbo and exhaust manifold. Many, many phone calls to get it checked out somewhere but they wanted me to pay for it. 2 1/2 months later my turbo went out. Paid for the towing and hotel room myself just like the other times.Midwest told shop where my truck was at they would overnight a turbo to them. This was Thursday morning. It arrived the following Wed. and was a used take out painted to look newer. When taken apart the shop found that the internal blades were shredded and locked up. It also had a crack on the exhaust side that had been siliconed. They sent another one Friday and it was fixed in a couple of hours. I spent 9 days down when it should have been 1. Lost revenue and when it came time to pay no one would answer the phone. Paid for that too. When questioned about 5 days to get a part sent out he said I never told him where to send it. The manager at the shop said he even told him the address to send it. BUNCH of LIARS up there when you can get someone on the phone. Takes 10 calls and messages to get one conversation in which it's always someone elses fault. BUCK PASSERS! Been using 1 gallon of oil every 1000 miles and have told them repeatedly but of course they want me to pay to get it checked out. What they don't tell you about your so called warranty is that if it's catastrophic you have to bring it to them. Yes you guessed it. You pay for that too. I was getting water in my oil when head gasket blew out. I was told to drive it to there shop and they would warranty it. I drove 3000 miles empty to get it there. They told me I got it hot and that's why it happened. HELLO-3000 miles using 4 gallons of water every 300 miles. Of course it got hot. Paid for that too. Now just 3 weeks and 8000 miles later it's broke down again. This time rod bearing, liner, and o-ring are damaged. Piston is in 100 pieces. He only wants to fix that and not check anything else for damage. Caterpillar told me all other pistons, liners, skirts, rod bearings and main bearings need to be checked. Also the head inspected and oil pump inspected an cleaned out. He told me he has 45 years exp. And they don't know what there talking about. I had to pay for rest to be done. He called and said everything looked good but a source told me 4 other rod bearings were shot, all liner o-rings were bad, and 3 piston rings were froze up. They weren't floating which explained all of my oil loss from day one. Caterpillar told me the way the engine looked with oil out from every gasket on it that it looked like a 400,000 mile engine instead of 75,000. Oil leaks, oil usage, gasket failure, turbo failure, rod bearing and piston ring failure- not typical of a remanufactured engine with 75,000 miles. Source told me they tear engines down and keep the stuff that looks good and buys gasket sets and builds an engine. I paid for a reman. Not reconditioned or used pull out that had a compression test done on it. When questioned about it he said I was calling him a crook and to come take my truck somewhere else. I told him that when he gets it fixed I'll come get it. It's under warranty and I'm broke because of you and this engine. So I can't afford to bring it anywhere else. Fix it right this time and I hope to never see you again! $12,500 for motor-$5800 to install-$1350 towing-$2450 in fuel to drive it there when possible-$1780 car rental-$650 airfare-$425 hotels-$5500 head, gasket and radiator-44 days out of service at $340 a day=$14,960 so far. Truck is still in shop. Grand total=$45,415. Caterpillar would have put one in for about $20,000 and come with a 2 year warranty covered by any CAT dealer in the country. These learning lessons are getting expensive. This guy has me almost bankrupt. take it from me- DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE non phone answering, non blame taking, buck passing, non compassionate, non GOOD engine building, CROOKS and LIARS. Sold M11 engine and will not honor the warranty. It has failed on my numerous times from the start, because of poor assembly. Owner won't return calls. AVOID!
