This is a comment/question. From what I am reading, it appears that one should have a professional advocate before ever entering this hospital or any hospital in this current economic environment with many cutbacks, trying to do more with less money and less staff. Has anyone ever done that and how successful was it? How did the staff treat you knowing there was an experienced advocate observing all that went on?

The doctor-who claims to be a professor of internal medicine at a local medical school-was either mentally retarded or a devilish, evil heartless bastard who deliberately ignored OBVIOUS symptoms and SKIPPED treatment in favor of COSTLY AND INCONCLUSIVE TESTING PROCEDURES for an open and shut case infection that any first year medical student ought to be able to diagnose symptomatically in their sleep.

the MRI technician was a rude, condescending incompetent c#$%% (rhymes with punt) that had no business dealing with patients or humans at all for that matter

mentally retarded/lazy nurse decided to attach a morphine IV with a FLOW RATE THAT WOULD POISON AN ELEPHANT

STUPID surgeon wanted to perform elective appendectomy-again WRONG-correct diagnosis was a lacerated abdominal muscle

the ultrasound technician was very good, and she is the ONLY reason why I haven't sued this JOKE into the pavement

the pharmacy technician aka gatekeeper of essential pills threatened to deny releasing a critical and very rare pharmaceutical THAT IS ONLY AVAILABLE AT BEAUMONT ROYAL OAK b/c the prescription came from a non-beaumont doctor-too BAD THE BEAUMONT DOCTOR ITSELF WAS NOT AVAILABLE, AND EVEN IF it WAS, IT IS TOO STUPID TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE ANYTHING

THIS HOSPITAL AND ITS satellites all over Michigan are a f!@#$%& farce-please do go there if you are eager to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against a retarded "doctor" (maniac butcher wearing a white coat)

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE, IT IS NOT A HOSPITAL-IT IS A TORTURE CHAMBER OF STUPID, LAZY, MENTALLY RETARDED CLOWNS AND CARICATURES OF REAL PROFESSIONALS

After my mom died, these incompetent freaks. when I called for support -- on a line for bereavement emergencies, the night my mom died, I was treated with kindness and told I could call anytime.
A week or two later I had a melt down at like 1:00 am in the morning, and called the 24 hour line. an hour and a half later a woman P.M. called me and told me it was inappropriate to call for support unless it is an emergency, and that I should only call during normal business hours. She humiliated me and made me feel like I was being talked down to and having my hand slapped. So I did call during "regular" hours for someone who lost a loved one. (Is there such a thing as "regular" hours for grieving and broken hearts from loss?)..... I called to clarify the 24 hr. phone line and its role. Fine, I got it - death at home or immediately after the death of a loved one. I also asked them to switch the social worker for another to get one on one bereavement counseling. They tell me they will call the next day. about 5 days later I get a letter, which as if I am an idiot - again they felt the need to state - for the THIRD TIME - "please keep in mind that after hours on-call is available for bereavement emergencies only." Well that tore it for me. I reached out in great agony and need and at 2:16 a.m. - got my hand slapped, instead of compassion and kindness. It made me feel awful. And the fact that they felt I was too stupid to get it the first time, it was driven home 3 times. I am now happily with Hospice of Michigan. If you want true compassion - do NOT use Hospice of Beaumont. Clearly they have a superiority complex, and treated me and my suffering as a bother. My advice: DO NOT USE THEM, THEY ARE CRUEL AND INSENSITIVE. To be humiliated in the middle of a very bad night??? They could have tactfully saved that information for the following day when things were calmer for me. Grief comes in ebbs and flows and we never know when it might hit us with Tsunami force. I just needed a reassuring voice. Instead I got a condescending correction. To hell with them!

William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan is an extremely malignant environment. They are highly talked about in the media with the infamous "Do you have a Beaumont doctor ads?", when really their ads should be, "Is your Beaumont doctor really a doctor?". Of course, they couldn't have known about the infamous so-called self-proclaimed cardiologist, Hamman, who duped Beaumont. For he brought in millions of dollars for the hospital. The nurses, staff, residents, and attendings are just mean, or if they are not mean, they are very short with the patients and are very unhappy. The residents are overworked and always look exhausted. The staff is very unhappy with their jobs. I can see why as the environment of the hospital is horrible. I have switched doctors. Each of the times I have received care (and I will never go back as I have had enough), I have overheard the doctors and/or nurses complaining about their patients and/or making fun of them. I developed severe sepsis from infection shortly after having bowel surgery. Their emergency department is a joke and so is their surgical unit and their inpatient units. The nurses are the worst part. During one of my stays for DKA, I saw a nurse verbally abuse a resident in front of the attending and the attending snickered. The nurses here are horrible, especially the Filipino ones who refused to speak English to me when I would ask them a question. This hospital may be a magnet hospital and may be listed among the nations best, but they are among the worst for patient care and management and friendliness. If you want to die, go to Beaumont. If you want a near death experience, go to Beaumont. If you want to be treated in a hospital where they were passing someone off as areal doctor who wasn't, go to Beaumont. If you want to see residents and attendings berate one another and be the patient to witness this, go to Beaumont. The attendings verbally abuse the residents in front of the patients. I wonder what they do behind closed doors! The residents here looked very unhappy during each of my stays. I have finally switched to a different hospital and doctors (which will remain anonymous), where the people and quality of care are MUCH different. I almost died at Beaumont. As I said before, is your beaumont doctor really a doctor?

My family just had an exeience that cant be put into words. I feel like it cant be put into words but possibly a novel might do it. The things we experienced over the week we were there would be to scary for a Twilight Zone episode. If anyone else is as dumbfounded by their cARE AT THIS HOSPITAL and would like to send me an email feel free sandymaniaci04@yahoo.com Happy to be out alive.

If you have a loved one please try to find another option to have them taken care of. We had no choice but to take our two year old to emergency last week and it was literally the worst night of my 43 years on this planet. The way that she was treated and not properly taken care of is absolutely sick. They should not call in a children's hospital if they are going to employ people that have no understanding of children. She went in for a high fever and was there for almost five hours and nothing was done to hydrate her. When we got there they promised certain medicine, pop sicles, juice and an IV and did none of that, but still they made comments that it was her fault that she couldn't give a urine sample, which eventually resulted in a cathader. They came in four different times and poked her five different places to draw blood, each time with no compassion and just scaring her. They had to have men hold her because they said she was too strong for others to hold down ( my god she is two and not a power lifter ). These idiots couldn't find a vein and had to stick her in the arms four times and on top of both hands. Hmmmm? You think they couldn't find a vein because she was dehydrated? Each nurse that came in seemed to be more clueless than the prior. Watching my little girl go through such hell for five hours was heartbreaking. She had not slept much the past two days and was way past her bedtime, had not eaten and just kept saying she wanted to go home. I called in the two ding dongs in charge and pleaded with them to please finish any tests as soon as possible and please bring crackers and juice or anything immediately. They said ok and 45 mins later they brought a graham cracker. This story has so many other facets to it but would be writing way beyond the 5,000 characters allowed and frankly getting sick thinking about it. We had a prescription that we took to the pharmacy and when we got there they had given us another patients prescription. The whole night was a joke. We left feeling like we got beat up and they had no solution and our daughter left with the same temperature she entered...not that they would know because they never took her temp again. The resident doctors should be ashamed and cant see them ever getting to be real doctors. I am logical and realize my daughter had no more importance to them as any other patient and I don't know what goes on behind the scenes and what doctors have to do each night, but she was a two year with a very high fever that they could have addressed quickly to make her feel better...instead they abused her mentally and physically and luckily her mother and I were able to bring our daughter back to health. Beaumont should be ashamed they have staff like that...I'm sure the residents and some of the nurses could care less as they cash their paychecks. I know there are good people that work there, unfortunately our daughter was there on a night that some of the idiots were working the same shift

I have nothing but praises for the staff at Beaumont in Royal Oak, MI. I was having a gallbladder attack but didn??t know it. They took me right in to the ER and started an IV. Even though it took a few tries to find a vein, they left no bruises. I gave a urine sample and then they administered pain medication. A mobile unit was brought in for an ultrasound test. A surgeon was consulted and the decision was made to remove my gallbladder. Once I was settled into a hospital room, the nurses and nurse??s aides were friendly, attentive, and professional. I??ve never had so many skilled people at my beck and call! In fact, Dr. James T. Courtney, the surgeon who removed my gallbladder and repaired my umbilical hernia during the same surgery, was the most impressive doctor I??ve ever met on so many levels---communication and listening skills, explaining the procedure, caring and compassion, and an uncanny intuition! He honed in on my needs and wants immediately and was willing to do everything in his power to satisfy every one of them. He had a full surgery schedule the following day, but he added me on anyway. ??I??ll just be operating all day,? he said with a wave of his hand as if it was no inconvenience to him. If this wasn??t impressive enough, Dr. Courtney has mad surgical skills! The proof is in the outcome. It was a quick recovery with no complications and I??m thrilled with my new belly button! He raised the bar for all other doctors in my future---I can never settle for less than the best care now that I know how great it can be. I was favorably impressed with the team work and level of care I received at Beaumont and I would recommend that hospital to anyone.

I have never had a worse experience with a hospital. There was no communication with the doctors and nurses. The nurses were ignorant and barely ever checked on me during my stay unless I asked for one. I wouldn't reccomend this hospital to anyone. They had me register on a gurny in the middle of the hallway. Even the ambulance staff were in aw. I have never seen anything like this in any other hospital. When I saw they got Americas best 50 hospitals award I was furious.

Beaumont Royal Oak's ER is a JOKE!!! I wouldn't even take my dog to your ER! My mother have been seen in your ER several times and admitted and you have proven once again today how disorganized and incompetent you people are! I wonder how you treat other people then! You are a big lawsuit waiting to happen!

I went for my EFMP because my husband and I are going to Hawaii. We just got married a month ago so i'm new to all of this. There was this lady there and it was her first day. As I was sitting in the office filling out paperwork this poor woman was asking the other lady at the computer all these questions (it was her first day, she was supposed to follow this woman around). The lady she was asking questions just kept ignoring her. Anyways, this woman was just rude to me and the other woman on her first day. Then, when I went to get my screening done the lady is just rude...she asks me the same questions over and over as if i'm lying to her. Then, she leaves the room for like 10 minutes. Doesn't even excuse herself or anything. Just gets out the chair and leaves...finally comes back just to tell me I am done. Then, I am told that my pap smear results aren't in the computer so my EFMP doesn't mean anything unless I have those, which means we won't get our orders to Hawaii yet, which means we can't ship our car yet. Found out nothing was in the computer because someone lost my paperwork. Ugh...horrible horrible first experience.

5 SISC (Surgical IC) took car of my father for five weeks following a fall at home. My father fractured C1, C2, and C3 plus had other medical issues. The staff worked hard and provided excellenct care. The only issues I have are that the nursing staff allowed my father to become dehydrated on one occasion. The quickly corrected that problem.

After five weeks my father was ready to go to a step down unit. The family wastold that my father would have a sitter (think baby sitter) with him until his mentlh status improved.

This did not happen. I spent many nights there trying to calm my father. His heart rate, blood pressure, resp. and O2 levels were all over the place. After five days in 8 South my father was found on the floor - not breathing and no heart rate. He was in the position long rnough to kill him. Although the staff called a code and got a heart beat back, his kidneys would sson fail. They ruled out heart attached. We buried his a week later.

Today I went to see one of your doctor's and receive some help. I was left on a bed with no blankets no conversation for the first hour. The second hour they sent in a resident to ask me what was the problem.I explained my doctor and Bashar MRI told me to rush to the Beaumount Royal Oak Hospital due to possible blood clots. They were rude down from your residents to your nurses. I cannot in good faith go back.

You have a very bad nurse on your staff that belittles little children on facebook, Kim Holbert took it upon herself to bad mouth my step grand child who had down's syndrome. It was very embarrassing to explain to a 5 year old what a mean 49 year old woman was trying to say to such a young child. She is an awful staff member and you people need to re-evauluate this woman. How do you think my family felt when she wrote on our facebook wall that we were sick because our grand daughter liked to play petville. I want this to go to the President of Beaumont hospital and I want an apology because this whole thing is unacceptable and I will take this further if you don't do something about this awful woman.

I had my 2 children here in the past 7 years & I have to say I wish I could have more! The attention, support & facilities provided were top notch! The nurses were extremely helpful all things "Mommy", they were patient, knowlegable & kind. The meals are so delicious that I stop in for their chicken salad sandwich when I'm around & my neighbor brought one of their cakes to a holiday dinner! Top Notch facility, Top Notch care!

The receptionists are rude on the phone. I called because I haven't received results of a CAT scan for over a month. She told me that I had to request in writing but the doctor told us that we would receive it in the mail. Then I asked her if I could request it over the phone and she said that a parent had to. I said that's fine...my mom is right here but she doesn't speak much English. I said that my mom can still talk to her and she's like well I need to speak with a parent. HELLO...I just said that my mom can talk to her.

And what's with the rule that you can only make appointments a week in advance? That is just ridiculous. I like being able to make appointments right after my check up so that I have an idea on when I would need to take work off for the next appointment.

Be aware. Stay away from this hosptial, The staff is poorly trained with proper sterile procedures and protocol. They do not follow many guidelines of the CDC. My daughter had cancer, she spent endless periods at this hospital for over 5 years. She passed July 4th, 2008, not of cancer but of pulmonary fibrosis due to the doctors negligence. If they would have called her U of M bone marrow specialists asap, Jennifer would have gotten proper meds and she would have not suffered from hardening of the lungs. During her many hospitals stays she contracted 4 blood infections, C-diff, was overdosed on oxycotin and wound up in the ICU. My mom just suffered a serious blood infection & bone infection after back surgery. She has to be on 6 weeks of IV antibiotics. My Aunt died from peritonitis
after a surgeon nipped her small bowel during heart surgery. They never realized because of lack of care a life threatening infection was brewing. If they were doing their job they should have known by her white cell count, her growing girth size, and edema. I feel the nurses are careless, many uncompassionate, and controling. They do not listen to the patients complaints and needs which is their job. They are supposed to be their for the patient, not the doctor, and oath they take. Beaumont does not believe in pain management so patients suffer needlessly. U of M hospitals pain management teams visit patients daily to make sure the are comfortable. They also measure a patients girth everyday. Two nurses program the PCA's so that no mistakes are made. Beaumont will put infectious patients in with other immunocomprimised patients. A Center of Disease control No No. The CDC called me within 2 hours after I told them about my daughter who was put in a room with a young women who had MRSA. This is highly contagious especially to patients with low immune systems. Bathrooms should not be shared and fierce sterile procedures should be protocol. Just because beaumont advertises how great they are do not believe it. They should be using advertising funds to hire more qualified staff, and stop laying off workers. Many severly ill cancer patients had to wait hours before recieving much needed pain meds. Beaumont is like an assembly line, get the patients in and out without any regard to the patients individual needs. Other hospitals are not so quick to release inpatients who may need extra time to recuperate. Be aware!!!!

Not impressed. Felt like a number in a really big system. You are not allowed to labor, deliver and post partum in the same room. In fact, there is a great chance that you'll have to room in with someone else after you have the baby. Can you imagine? I paid extra, out of my pocket for a private room after I had my son and ended up with a C-Section. I found out later that they "allow" section patients to have a private room at no extra charge. They wouldn't refund my money because I signed a paper stating that I would pay the extra money before I knew I'd have to have a section. Needless to say, if I ever have another baby, it WON'T be at this hospital.

Beaumont in Royal Oak as been our family hospital forever. They took care of my Grandparents,Mother, Aunts & Uncles too. My brother was born there in 1961 & my children were born there in 1998 & 1999. I wouldn't go anywhere else unless I absolutly had too....
I even worked there once for a little while. God Bless them all.

PROS: Best Hospital around
CONS: Sometimes you wait & they can been a little disorganied at times

In situations of in-patient care, the staff seemed very neglectful to respond to calls and lacked knowledge of the care required for the specific ailment.

My wife had our son at this hospital. When we first got there, she was standing there trying to sign paperwork between contractions every 2-3 minutes, and there was nowhere for her to sit, not one chair! The birthing process was fine, but then when she finally got into her room, the tv didn't work, and they forgot to bring her any food after her liquid diet was over. She didn't get any breakfast till almost lunch! They're a little disorganized too. We didn't get any picture information till 10 minutes before the photographer was coming around, so we didn't have much time to make a decision. And they sent someone in to take my wife's staples out 2 hours after her doctor had already done it. And don't expect that curtain in the PRIVATE rooms to mean anything. People come barging in and throw that thing open, no matter what you're doing behind it, and they don't bother to close it again when they leave. But you know? I still wouldn't go anywhere else, I trust Beaumont, even if they are a little flaky.

I had to bring a friend to the hospital after he had an accident. They have free parking, which is good and you don't spend much time in the waiting room, but then you wait two hours before a doctor actually sees you.

My wife delivered our son here about a year ago and our experience was terrific. We found all the nurses to be wonderful and helpful. The medical care was excellent and we always felt that we were in good hands.
