My wife and I went to Lelli's Inn on Valentine's Day. I called 6 days in advance for reservation at 8pm. When we got there at 7:15pm, the 6pm reservations were on a 2 hr wait, and so on. My wife and I were not sat until 10:35pm and to add insult, we were sat after 9pm reservations, how does that work? I'll tell you how, they just simply forgot about our 8pm reservation and gave no apology. Who runs a restaurant like this? When we finally sit down we do not have a server, but 3 servers running around a banquet room going from table to table. Short staffed? Nothing like personal service after waiting over 2.5 hrs to get a table. It was ridiculous the way they just overbooked to get people in the restaurant that evening, then mismanaged the mess. Throwing customer service right out the window. Well, I hope they made a years worth of money Saturday night because my wife and I will never step into that restaurant again, I don't care how good the steaks are, nothing is worth what we went through that night. Thanks for ruining my wife's Valentine.

This is an excellent old restaurant. The service was wonderful and food was excellent. The Old World charm was a nice change of pace and felt intimate and quiet. The menu gives you plenty of options and even some complete dinner choices that include appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert. Overall, a good choice for the price.

Old family business. Great Italian Restaurant with several courses. The food is excellent and well worth the price, a true Fine Dining Restaurant experience. All the waitstaff are excellent and extremely accommodating. If there is a special occassion you are celebrating, Lelli's is the place to go. I would recommend highly.

We had been to Lelli's many times and always found it to be an excellent place. Last night-not so much. Will NEVER go back. We arrived at 5:30 and figured we had plenty of time to eat and make it to the Palace in time for the 8:00 concert start time. We ordered fairly quickly and within 15 minutes we were bombarded with the salad, soup and spaghetti courses right on top of each other. Then we waited and waited and waited for our entrees that finally arrived just before 7:00. There were never any apologies from the waiter for the long wait. Never once did he come by and ask if we needed anything. So instead of a leisurely dinner we were forced to wolf down the entree . Never did get the spumoni-we wouldn't have had time to eat it. The dover sole was terrible -thin, dry and full of bones. Very disappointed in food quality and service. This place has gone downhill bigtime. We should have stopped at Papa Vinos. I'm sure it would have been better (and a LOT less expensive).

We came to Lelli's on the night before Valentine's day, a Saturday night. The restaurant was quite busy. We were seated quickly, received our place settings, bread and drinks. When I placed my order, the server came back to tell me that item was no longer on the menu. After I placed my second choice, he told me the same thing. Third time was the charm. I was a little concerned, but I didn't have to be. I thought the five course service was terrific and even though our dining experience was two hours, it didn't feel that way. There was never a long gap between courses. My family ordered standard Italian fare. The ravioli appeared to be handmade and delicate. My husband raved about his chicken paremsan. My eggplant was some of the best I've had, though they may have been a little heavy handed with the parmesan cheese, making the dish a tad salty.

In all, we had a good experience at Lelli's Inn and will return when we have occasion to visit Auburn Hills again.

I saw some bad reviews so I decided to call the resturant ahead of time (the day before) and explain my reservations. My honey parked his own car and almost slipped an fell a few times on the ice in the parking lot, walking back. We got in the building and checked my coat and were seated right away, basically because the place was a ghost town at 6pm on a Saturday night!!!!! We sat for a few minuets and our server finally came over to the table gave us our menus and walked away. His name was Alex, right before he walked away I asked if they had Riesling,he replied that he did not know and would ask the bar. When he came back he asked if we were ready to order, I explained that it had been a few years since I had been there and it was my honey's first time Ya ever get the "doe in the headlights look?" He basically said that they are known for the filet and that was about it, I told him that we would need a few more minuets and he walked away again. We had to squint to read the menu because it is dark and I guess, romantic, then my honey said,"he didn't even ask us if we want anything to drink!" We decided to try to Chateu since that was the recommended cut of meat and I had never had it before, he did explain what type of cut it was, he took our order and left again, I was really expecting the whole nine yards, a complete explination of everything with a professional presentation by the server, we definately did not get that. No detailed explination of the cheese, beets, shrimp olives, nothing So after we finished our soup, our server came back to our table to let us know the kitchen was out of the pasta that is traditionally served with the Chateu and asked if we would like something else and said that it would take an extra 10 mins to prepare because the kitchen cooked angel hair to order,we got our pasta and I will tell you that it was not very good at all, very bland, I am NOT a big fan of spinich I was disappointed and we will not go back!

I?ve actually been to this place twice and it gets better every time. The pasta and ingredients are unbelievably fresh and prepared to order. I ordered the veal parmesan, which was sublime. My mother had the penne alla vodka. Her pasta was so good that I knocked her unconscious and took her plate. Sure, I have to get a new mother now, but that pasta was worth it. The atmosphere is congenial with enough space for everyone to sit comfortably and the service is truly impeccable. Moreover, I?ve gone in twice with no reservations and I?ve never had a problem being seated. I cannot more strongly endorse this restaurant.

Lellis was the location of my bridal shower for 60 people, and they not only worked with us on price, but gave us excellent service as well. They were so helpful with coordination and doing extra little things! We had a free signature drink they served and the servers kept excellent track of people's cash-bar orders as well. The 5-course food was overall fantastic, though the spaghetti is so-so. Minestrone-AWESOME, the filet-THERE ARE NO WORDS to describe it's flavor and tenderness. it melts in your mouth! Don't expect to get in and out quick, as this is a place to sit and enjoy your food, and the food isn't a hamburger, so it does take a little bit longer than McDonlads. The ambiance is rich and elegant, but you don't feel out of place if you come casual. The guests at my shower have even been calling me for weeks specifically to comment on how fantastic the food and service and entire experience was!

I love it! Best Bridal Shower ever!!!!

I thought this was one of the worst dining experiences. We made a reservation for 8pm, arrived 5 minutes early and were told it would be at least 15 minutes. Ok. Then we were seated. It took a waiter 10 minutes to acknowledge us. We didn?t receive bread until 20 minutes after that. I had to ask for a napkin, silverware, and my water to be refilled. Dinner took 1 hour and 45 minutes for our main courses to arrive. I will say that the filet was wonderful, but the remainder of courses were nothing special. Actually, I didn?t like the spaghetti at all, although my fiance did. Once we finally received our main course, we didn?t wait for our spumoni. We asked for our check and left. For the expense of this restaurant, I expect 5 star service. I believe TGI Fridays would have served us better. I would never eat here again.

My husband and I have been going here for years. Every birthday and every anniversary. Although some may say that the service is slow, thats what we like. We really get to enjoy each others company in between amazing courses of food. If you want to get in and get out I wouldnt suggest this place but if you want a romantic date than this is the place to go. The food is excellent and very presentable. Ive tried just about everything on the menu and no complaints so far. The service is excellent beginning with the valet service and it continues until we have left. An average evening is about two hours.

My experience at Lelli's was fantastic. I was seated at the time of my reservation in a spacious booth. My waitresses were pleasant and informative about the entrees available. Though it is an expensive meal, I felt it was worth it because of the overall experience and the amount of food they provide. They serve an awesome minestrone, the best I've ever had. My entree was delicious and although it was served a while later, I didn't mind because it gave me time to relax, digest, and spend time with the people I came with. I enjoyed trying the spumoni and I think it added to the whole elegant, Italian experience that comes with Lelli's.

You need to give every place a second chance, that?s what we thought. We went in the last 3 weeks twice. Big mistake. Twice into a disaster. Unfriendly staff, chairs with the springs / cushions on the floor. Not that they could have changed the chairs because of us in 3 weeks. Armrests that look like someone scraped the paint of the wood. Yuck!Be patient when you order. You need to decide if you want large amounts of food or massive amounts. Waiters are not very good listeners. Be prepared to wait for a long time. The food comes in spurts, not in well timed sessions. When they finally (20 minutes) start with soup or salad, the soup appeared to be out of a can. It is the same soup every time though that?s consistent. You got to give them points for that. Like, ?soup of the night?. Its there ?famous? minestrone. Then the salad arrived, small, very small and must have been prepared on the previous day. Main course at least 30 minutes after you had the soup. It starts with a massive amount on spaghetti ? why?? I guess to fill you up. Then what you ordered. I had veal Parmesan. The veal was covered with a 1/4 inch of hard backed Parmesan and it rested on to of, guess?.. the same spaghetti meat sauce I just had with the huge amount on spaghettis before??? And as recommended from the waiter.. you want potato or spaghetti with your veal?.I would suggest spaghetti. There they are again, spaghetti with, guess?..meat sauce. They are quick to sell you a drink though. Massive amounts on food but no quality.
Prices are outrages. And the only thing you get is massive amounts on spaghetti appetizers. If you like spaghetti you could get for a few $$ at the neighborhood pizzeria, that?s the place to go. Just order that. I think you could?
There is one upside - parking is great. The guys really take care of you. There is minimum charge of $3.00 though. That?s not a lot considering that you just spend $120 + for two.

Lellis USED to be our favorite place, now We wont go back. The food is great and well worth the price, but the service ruins the whole lellis experience. They used to have very professional servers waiting on you. Now I guess they are hire every young person that comes through the door. We were seated in a booth where all we could hear were these young servers on the other side of the wall talking about how drunk they got at Lellis after after hours the night before. The server we had looked like she went to sleep in her clothes. We ordered the chatu, A steak they cook at your table, it was butchered, she more like shaved it when she cut it, we like our steak medium, it was well. The veggies they used to serve like a whole experience to watch was now just thrown on our plate. We ordered a $75.00 bottle of wine and after she broke the cork trying to open it she handed the bottle to my husband and asked him to "try his luck".
I would think that maybe we had the worst server in the place but talking to the people in the booths on both sides of us, (both with different servers) we all agreed it must be the New lellis. It turned into a circus watching all these servers, with not a clue. I expect this at a coney, but lellis where I pay $50.00 a plate?
I guess the old servers took their experience and cleaning rags and went home. The new and inproved lellis needs some big screen tv's and peanuts then maybe we will go back.

I chose Lelli's to have a family gathering for my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for 21 people. We ordered a couple bottles of wine...so far so good. When we began to order our food, we were informed they were OUT OF LETTUCE. They had used it up for Mother's Day. This was the THURSDAY after Mother's day. My brother in law ordered escargot. We were told they were out of the puff pastry they use for the recipe. When we finally figured out how to order enough food for everyone's meal and it came time for the spumoni that comes as dessert, we were told they were OUT OF SPUMONI. When my son wanted his surf and turf boxed up to take home, we were told they were OUT OF BOXES, so they dumped the whole $50.00 meal in a tall plastic quart container mixed in together. It looked like dog food. The whole experience just became a ridiculous joke. When we left, of course they were OUT OF MINTS.
I wrote a letter to the owner/manager, but never heard a WORD of apology. Nothing.
I will never go there again. It's not like they didn't realize they were going to have customers!

We went on a Saturday night. It was crowded, but we had a reservation for 7:30 and was seated within 15 minutes. Many people were there to have dinner before a program at the Palace, so they had to get out by a certain time, and the staff was trying to get them going. We had 2 waitresses for our table and they apologized for not getting to us very quickly, but now that the theatre crowd was gone they will be very attentive. They were not. We sat down at 7:45. We weren't asked our order until 15 minutes later. We got the antipasta dish and drinks fairly quickly after that. It took over 30 minutes to get our meals, and my pasta was warm at best. Over all, the food was alright, the service slow, even when there isn't a crowd and they are very overpriced. I had a combo of spaghetti and ravioli, medium size portions and it was 25.00 Too much for pasta! I don't believe I will dine there again. Not worth the money. If you do go, plan on spending a lot of time and money.

It has been several years since I had last been here when this great old time restaurant was located by the GM bldg. I was in Auburn Hills and entertained two friends from out of state. It had to be one of the worst experiences of my life. A great bottle of read served very warm. The waiter said they no longer had a wine cooler since the flood whatever that meant. We asked for the manger and first as said he was busy in the bar then told he had left. Over priced bad food, bad service. Go anywhere but here.

The service was horrid, the filets should not have been cold and the wine should not have been warm. In fact, our server, Jason, offered to chill the wine for us. Unfortunately, our cold steaks arrived six minutes later poor planning and poor service.

I was shocked that when they brought the check, they had charged us for the wine. After spending $42 each for 3 filet mignons (served cold) and $62 for a bottle of warm wine, the manager wouldn't even come and talk to us. Instead of listening to the customer, the manager (Steve Lelli) told the server, Jason, to bring us the unfinished bottle of wine and pay for it.

I was first introduced to Lellis in 1998 when it was located in Detroit. A fire destroyed that location in 2000. Now located in Auburn Hills, the BEST filets are served. We eat here on special occasions and bring our out of town guest and encourage them to try the filet. From what I hear, the other food is just as wonderful, but the filet is to die for. You barely need a knife to cut it and the zip sauce is amazing!!! Be sure to go in on an empty stomach, because it is a 5 course dinner meal. I recommend the extra cut, because you get a little more filet, and they make wonder leftovers for a midnight snack. Can be pricey, but in the summer they have roll-back prices. It is about half off. Great time to try it or make an excuse to go twice!!!

Lelli's is one of my very favorite restaurants in Detroit. Although I have heard horror stories about poor service, I have never had bad service there (once I had to wait a few minutes for my bread and water), and it's usually excellent. The minestrone is the best soup I've ever had in my life. The entrees, though expensive, come with an antipasto tray, soup, salad, pasta, and dessert. The shrimp Lelli is spectacular, and the steaks are to die for. Stay away during the holidays (all the horror stories seem to have taken place during busy holiday times)

This is a very popular lunch spot due to its proximity to DaimlerChrysler. However, unless you live in the area (or are entertaining the aforementioned on a limited time schedule), there are considerably better valued restaurants in Rochester, Troy, even Pontiac. People that "crave" their steaks or Italian have obviously never cooked their own nor had relatives that shared their recipes.

Pros: close to DCX, ample parking, large group access

Cons: average food, expensive, mediocre wine list

We made reservations for 7:15. When we arrived were told it would be half an hour despite the fact that we had reservations. We were seated 2 hours after our reservation time. The staff was overwhelmed so service suffered. The valet (which is the only parking option) was also overwhelmed and threw all the keys in a pile. We got our keys and got our own car and saw a couple whose keys and car were missing and were told they would put their name on a list. Good food, BAD management!

Lelli's has been my favorite place to diner on very special occasions only. I first was introduced to this restruant 36 years ago when their place was on Woodward and East Grand Blvd. I have celebrated many birthdays there. Seeings my birthday is in December and only on two birthdays had to be cancelled because of snow. Since the fire has destroyed the restruant I have only dined twice in the new location. Just not enough time to get over there.I live closer, just no time.

My family has been eating at Lelli's for over 45 years... they have the best filet ever!!! We bring all our out of town guests here and they leave Lelli's with the same story... never ate a better steak.
Wonderful italian atmosphere. If you're ever in or near Auburn Hills, MI ... make sure you visit Lelli's!!!

I have tried to top Lelli's cuisine since I first tried it 12 years ago and in all of my travels I haven't been able to find better quality, selection, or value. The only thing missing is downtown location and oysters.

I thought Lelli's Restaurant served me the best steak I have ever had from a restaurant. The zip sauce was great and the steak was cooked perfectly. The only real problem I saw with the place was that the owner should take a few lessons on how to run a more expensive restaurant. I thought he was rude and should deal more with his customers than sitting watching a tv that he had put in the bar. Luckily our waiter did a great job and handled our special requests (something the owner should try to do with such a large group) beautifully.

Lelli's filet mignon are one of a kind - have never tasted a steak so tasty or tender. Don't miss!

Elegent dining area, the juiciest, most mouth watering steak known to man, on top of that, the best Italian food in the Mid-West

Nothing is better than the Filet and no one has a better filet anywhere. Remember to get some extra zip sauce on the side. The soup, salad, antipasto tray, pasta and desert are not only included, but worth the trip! It is a shame that the Detroit location may not open, it was The Best! The Auburn Hills location is great, but not as perfect as Detroit.

I have been to 22 countries and have eaten at plenty of Italian restraunts and this is the cream of the crop. The dining experience is very pleasent, the food is to die for, and the atmosphere is priceless. Overall it is truly the best restraunt I have ever eaten at. It is perfect for entertaining fine clients, romantic dinners, and family celebrations. It is fairly pricey, but more than worth the price. You're going to love it.

Pros: Excellent Food, Extremely Clean, Great Atmosphere

Cons: Pricey, Reservations a plus

This place has terrific things to offer. Great filet and zip sauce, super spaghetti if you like the brownish sauce (I love it), and an excellent thick minestrone soup course. If you order something from the main menu, you better be hungry. It's way too much food! If you're smart you'll order from the lite menu and save a few pounds. Highly recommended food, very good and polite service.

Went there for a business dinner -- the food was nice, service was friendly and courteous. I would go back again for a special occasion dinner.
