Dr. Samson is the only vet I like to use, and I now drive form Whitmore Lake to take my cat.
A little History: Back in 2004 my family moved from Grand Blanc/ Linden Area to Rives Junction just around the corner from Dr. Samson. Well during out move our dog Cindy was scared that my dad was going to leave because my dad was try to hook the trailer up to the truck, the dog panicked (had never done that before) and ran towards the truck and before any of us had time to react she was at the truck and my dad had ran over her. Now this was a very big dog, and a very big diseale 1 ton truck. We immediatly left and took this dog towards lansing looking for a vet, we went to an emergency vet. The emergency vet place was joke. They wanted to charge us like thousands of dollars and saying he needed a bolt in his chin for his jaw and all this other surgery. They refused to give the dog anything for comfort as we could not pay that amount of money, especailly for a dog that was aobut 14/15 years old and probably on her last leg anyway. Well We got her home, and asked around the for a good vet and we immediatly got her into Dr. Samson. He did AMAZING on her. He used a small wire and minor surgery to fix Cindy's jaw, and told us to feed her with I think pedi light for a while until they could take the wire out. The rib he said would heal and there was nothing that they could do. He also noticed something wrong with her eye that had been there for a while and he fixed her eye issue (cyste or something), all for 75 dollars. All follow up visits for checking on her and taking the wire out was included!

My family also had outside cats at one point after living in the area. One day one of our outside cats would not come home to get locked up for the evening as they normally do. We eventually found her and she had been attached by something and her side of her face was all tore up. We took her in to see Dr. Samson and he did the bed he could to reconstruct her face, there was no way to get it back to 100 percent. She had several follow up visits to check on it to make sure it was healing fine and it was all included int he first vet visit, no follow up vet fees.

I think I could give even more stories of how this vet helped my family and our animals we have had over time. Cindy ended up passing away from Cancer about 6 months after we moved into Jackson. I couldn't have asked for a better vet to help us through the process to having to put our dog down because she was in too much pain and we didn't want her to suffer.

His prices overall are very very reasonable. I would not recommend any other vet. I haven't lived in Jackson area since I graduated school in 2007 and I still take my cat (which was the one that had the messed up face). I do not mind the drive to know I am getting good service and not jerked around and told I have to pay something that is very important. Dr. Samson is even willing to sit and talk to you about the type of care to provide to your animal (teeth cleaning, etc).

I have to agree that they do not have the best emergency visits, but you can get in on emergency basis, I haven't had to since we lived in Jackson. Dr. Samson have varying hours to assist all work scheduled. They have walk ins so you don't have to set an appointment.

Dr. Samson is the ONLY vet that I trust with my animals. I have moved to Kalamazoo, and when I need a vet, he is the one I go to. He is worth the 2 hour drive! He is always very informative and cares more about the pet than anything else. He is GREAT!!!!

I like Dr. Samson. I like how he takes the time to get to know my dog and doesn't rush him if he's nervous and goes at my dogs pace. Starting out my dog was scared of men and now whenever we pull up to his office he's estactic and can't wait to go in there! My dog has come a long way from when I first got him and I think that Dr. Samson has helped him on that road. I make the 30 minute drive for my dog because he loves going there and the prices I can't argue with. There are somedays when the wait is a little unnecessary but I can't really complain since he gives all his patients that same one on one time which is worth it when you have a dog like mine. I recomend him I just wish he was more available, but he is the only vet there and he also goes out to farms which you have to take into consideration also

My dog wasn't going to the bathroom. She couldn't poop and wasn't eating. She would throw up everything that she would eat when she did finally eat. The doctor was more concerned about cleaning her teeth than actually finding out what was wrong with her. He talked the whole time to another patients owner about tarter and plaque. We asked for an X-ray to rule out a blockage but we must have hurt his ego or something. He didn't do the x-ray. He insisted she just had swollen anal glands and an upset stomach. He sent her home on a bland diet. The next day we contacted them again and was told to give her mineral oil if that was what we thought was wrong with her. I don't know, I'm not a vet! I don't think Dr. Samson can admit he is wrong. We ended up taking her to an emergency clinic in lansing where they found a blockage in her intestine by x-ray! They scheduled surgery for the next morning but she died that night. The vet in Lansing told us an x-ray should have been taken at her first visit with Samson because all of her symptoms pointed to a blockage. If she would have had her surgery a day earlier, she would still be here. She wasn't even 2 years old. She will be missed greatly.

The prices are fair if you have time to set in the office as the vet takes his time to visit with the pets owners. 11/2 hours waiting for the vet to finish with one animal that only required a couple shots is a bit much.

Also the ER service is an answering machine that if the vet is on vacation he don't check his messages and there is no one that calls you back. If you have a ER there is no one to help.

PROS: price
CONS: NO EMERGENCY SERVICE
