In the summer of 2010, my cat Bob (so named for his tiny little tuft of a tail) needed a subtotal colectomy, the removal of most of his colon. It was that or euthenizing him. The MSU clinic is reputed to do this operation well, but their price was unaffordable, so I called other vets and clinics in search of a solution. To my surprise, most were unwilling to attempt this delicate operation. But when I called the Ailurophile Cat Clinic, Dr. Hoschek said, "Can do." And his price was considerably lower than MSU's.

I was a little nervous because of a couple of unflattering online reviews of this clinic, but Dr. Hoschek did excellent work. My regular vet even commented on it when I took Bob in for a follow-up exam later. The surgery went very well. Bob had to stay at the clinic for a few days afterward, and I was able to visit him every day. He did well in recovery and was soon back to being himself, personality and all. Now, a year-and-a-half later, he is the picture of health. I would not hesitate to go back to Dr. Hoschek again. I am very grateful that he took on this surgery without hesitation while others turned us down--and then he did such a great job as well!

My cat has gone here for the last 7 almost 8 years. When my cat had to be spayed and stayed overnight they called me with updates and gave her lots of TLC. The Doctor is incredibly thorough and knowledgeable and unlike other vets I have been too, handles the animals gently and talks to them throughout the exam to soothe them. When our family had to move to Hawaii because of my husband's job in the military, the staff was so helpful and understanding in helping us fulfill quarantine requirements. 5 stars!

I took one of my cats here to get a second opinion about her dental condition. I found the staff to be very helpful and concerned about my cat's well-being and making sure I understood what they were saying. I ended up having some dental work done on my cat. It was a little pricey but I would recommend this clinic as they specialize in just cats and maybe understand their conditions better.

These people are very nice, friendly, sympathetic and neighborly. The vet is very good at putting both the pet and the owners at ease. It's one vet, so you always get the same guy, and he gets to know your cat -- you're not dealing with a different vet every time. He answers all questions patiently and thoroughly. They have some weekend and evening hours, though those do tend to fill up fast. There is no problem canceling appointments. And they will tell you honestly if they think a visit is not necessary. Facilities are very clean and well-maintained. Lab on premises--they will do lab tests and bring you your results while you wait.

I will not go here anymore. Unconciouable lack of compassion treating my 20 year old dying cat. I cannot reccomend this business and it is not the original owner. I am glad to see that others are getting help here. I am not out to pound on

I should have wrote this a month ago when I had my cat in to see this so called Doctor but I am just now getting to it. Me and my husband just moved up from Kentucky to Lansing with our cat Gabby and decided to take her to Ailurophile since they were just cats, BIG MISTAKE! First thing I noticed when I walked in was how dirty and unkept the waiting room was (files and papers all over the desks, dirt, and cat hair everywhere!) there were cats running loose all over the place which made my cat VERY uncomfortable. They seemed to be very understaffed, only one poor girl there working the desk, the back, and everything else. When I arrived there were no other customers there yet it took the Doctor almost a half hour to finally come in and see my cat. When he came in I was shocked and kind of scared, his scrubs were all torn up and the top was on inside out he looked like he had just crawled out of bed, long hair was all messy, he just seemed very unprofessional! The exam he did with my cat however was very good he spent alot of time checking every square inch of her, gave her vaccines, and decided she needed some geriatric blood work done, which I agreed to for the health of my cat. The young girl working up front came and took my cat to the back to get blood, all of the sudden I heard my cat screaming bloody murder and things crashing onto the floor, I then heard the doctor screaming and throwing stuff all over telling that poor girl how f-ing dumb she was! then I swear I heard my cat make like a choking cough sound, it was beyong aweful I wanted to grab my poor Gabby and run out of there! It took nearly another half hour just to get my cat back from where ever they took her. When the Dr. brought her back in she was panting, her legs were bloody and she looked beyond stressed, and the Dr acted all chipper and nice like nothing had happened. They tried to get me to do a dental on her, HECK NO! I refused to leave her there with them alone ( I did have it done at our current clinic though) To top it all off on my way out of the exam room they have window seat for customers and cats to sit on, well there was some very sickly looking grey cat pooping all over the one right outside my door! I hope whatever that cat had he didnt give it to Gabby! So I paid my outrageous bill and left never to return. The one girl on staff was very friendly and caring but obviously overwhelmed, but the Dr was just rude, unprofessional, and obviously out of control with his anger. I would say if you love your cat - DO NOT take it to Ailurophile!

Pros: The only pro is that is only cats.

Cons: dirty - rude - uncaring - unproffesional

I took my seemingly healthy cat there for routine exam and vaccinations updates. They said my cat was healthy, gave her the injections but that night she got very sick and died within 2 days. Long story short, she had kidney disease, undiagnosed, and the injections put her over the edge. When I contacted their office after to explain what had happened they were very rude.
Beware!!

Dr. Hoschek has been my little boy's doctor for going on five years. My little guy is also "special needs", he was the runt of the litter, isn't "put together" quite right, and has the equivalent of feline Down syndrome. The first time we saw Dr. Hoschek, I cried...he was the ONLY doc, of many that we had seen, that did NOT tell me that I should put my lil guy "down" because he isn't "normal". I have moved many times in the last five years and Ailurophile Cat Clinic remains Roly's vet. Last winter I drove 12 hours ONE WAY (from TN) , to take Roly back to Dr. Hoschek (in MI). I now live in Buffalo (NY), it's a 6 hour drive...piece of cake to take Roly back to the only doctor that I trust with my little boy. This doctor LISTENS to me, trusts me when I tell him something isn't right, explains everything more than once if necessary, and does what is best for my Roly. This vet is now and will forever remain, my Roly's doctor. And about his staff...caring, trustworthy, empathetic, sweet, understanding, respectful. I love this place and how they take care of my boy and me too.

Pros: Dr. Hoschek is the best cat vet!!

Cons: Can't give more than 5 stars, I would if I could!

You will never find a vet that is more committed to your cat?s health than Dr. Hoscheck! Because we were so close to MSU and their world class Vet school we took our cat to MSU for years. Our cat is what you might call special needs: heart murmur, breathing problems, deaf and diabetic. Unfortunately, these health problems would result in very long visits to MSU, each new vet student wanted to do a full work up. What we needed was a single vet who would get to know our cat?Dr. Hoscheck to the rescue!

Since going to Ailurophile our cat is in great health, very happy and OLD (18)! To top it off, our cat is not great patient; let?s just say he gets very stressed when taken to the vet! Not only has Dr. Hoscheck handled all of these issues perfectly, he is always very caring and thorough, without recommending unnecessary test or care. Even more amazing is he will take as much time as you want to explain EVERYTHING very clearly. He is a wonderful vet. In addition to a great vet, the rest of his staff is very good with cats and treat them with the utmost care. Trust me, there is no better place for you and your cat.
