After tonight's meal I returned home and immediately wrote the owner a note of appreciation for providing such a wonderful dining destination for Petoskey. This evening my wife and I treated my mother for her 85th birthday. Each table was preset with bread sticks and a spread for them was brought to the table by our waitress. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list which is, seriously, one of the finest wine selections in the nation- if you are a wine person you must ask your server about what's in the wine cellar. Debbie was attentive during the meal but not obtrusive. We ordered the lasagna, penne ragu with Italian sausage, and chicken marsala. With each entree one of 10 salads or soups are included. Fresh baked warm bread with another spread is brought to the table prior to the soup or salad course. Many of the entrees provide a choice of smaller or regular portions, a practice I wish many more restaurants would emulate. Our selections were the minestrone, Villa salad and the spinach salad; large portions and all top notch. The choice of dinner plates greatly enhanced the presentation. We shared course with our dining partners; each was superb and a unique taste experience. Even the music was perfectly selected to accompany the atmosphere. The owner has been in this location from at least the early 80's, and for those of you whom have returned here during his tenure you have seen it mature from a lunch time pizza buffet and a good Italian restaurant to an all-around outstanding and memorable dining experience. Prices are in the $20 to mid $30 range, money well spent for the two course meal. Oh, and if you enjoy grappa, or even if you don't, check out the grappa bottle collection at the north end of the dining area. It's something you don't see very often. As for family dining I wouldn't bring children that aren't old enough to appreciate fine dining, something that should be obvious to those that take time to scan the menu outside of the door to the establishment. This is a restaurant to be savoured with a fine glass of wine and a long, relaxed conversation. Enjoy a special treat.

Villa is excellent for Italian food. Don't go here expecting Olive Garden because this is the real deal - authentic Italian dishes that are scrumptious. The manicotti is great.
