My boyfriend and I went here for the first time tonight. The food was great but the service was not good at all. The guy who delivered our chips and salsa didn't say a word to us; he just dumped the chips and walked away. It was pretty busy, but many of the waitstaff were leaning agaist the back counter - even when my drink was empty, no one come over to refill it. The bathroom was a DISASTER- one toilet clogged and toilet paper everywhere which made me wonder what their kitchen looks like. Also, it is almost February and they still had Christmas decoratioons up. The food was really good, and the prices weren't too bad, but overall I think this place needs to step up their game in the management department. I'll try it again once they clean the place & get the staff some customer service training.

After frequenting Dos Pesos about 10-20 times per year since 1989 this is my take:

Chips are usually room temp and just ok. I prefer them hot and oiled (which I find hard to find consistently). Salsa is wonderful. The taste is just right and the only improvement I could wish for would be a chunkier salsa. I spread the salsa over the beans and rice (and everything else) and it flavors them to perfection.

Their chili is very very good. More of a meaty stew taste than a beany standard chili and it has a decent touch of hotness. Get it with cheese.

Most of their food is slightly above avg. Mexican fare but two things really stick out:
Hand-made corn-shuck Tamales: Very tasty with salsa and has excellent texture.
Chile Relleno: Best I've ever had! All parts of it are sooooo tasty from the batter to the slightly spicy pablano pepper to the cheese inside it to the ranchero sauce ontop of it. I'm always wiping up the drippings with the tortillas at the end!

The Margaritas are tasty and easy to drink. If kool-aid made margarita mixes this is what they'd taste like ;) The tequila isn't as strong as I'd like (which is about par for Mexican restaurants) and since they don't come in pitcher/Liter size they can get expensive quick.

Customer Service: The owner/managers have always been top-notch and very polite/friendly. The waitstaff is just ok and I have had to wait a few times longer than I would like for refills/follow-ups.

Carryout vs. Sit-Down?
My son & I always find the carryout to be tastier. I think it must have something to do with eating chips & salsa before a dine-in meal.

My mother's new husband is Mexican and he wanted authentic Mexican food so we took them both to Dos Pesos for dinner. He was very impressed with the food and the waitress even spoke to him in Spanish. The food was wonderful and the service great.

I am the grandaughter of the owners of this restuarant.. and I can tell you that this is the best mexican food there is... all the other mexican restuarants in southwest d are okay but DOS PESOS is truly authentic with many food options and is definetly WORTH IT the fried icecream is delicious so make sure you have room for it but the rice and beans are made always fresh... I know there is much work put into the food... compared with ways other restaurants would do.. but highly recommend this it's worth the drive!! :]

Always great food. Best guacamole, salsa and warm chips. They do wonderful catering items, especially appetizer items such as little bean/cheese burritios and nachos.

VERY poor customer service from the owner, Jesse Perez. I took my daughter for dinner & once we were seated, they forgot about us. (The owner was the one that seated us.) After waiting for 20 minutes, my daughter told the owner that we needed our waiter. It wasn't busy, there were 6 other tables besides ours. After approximately 10 minutes, he sent a waitress to our table. Not once did he come over to our table to apoligize for forgetting about us. When I was paying, I asked him if he realized that we had been forgotten about & he said "yes, it's not a perfect world." I told him that he could have at least apologized & he said that he had our waitress come over. I said that HE could have at least came to our table & apologized. I asked if he was the manager or owner & he said he was the owner. I asked for his name & he said he would tell me his name after I gave him his money. He never told me his name, my daughter happened to see it on the wall. I payed & left & will never go back. He was the RUDEST owner of ANY business that I have ever been to.

PROS: none
CONS: food not very good, rude owner, dirty floors,

I have been going here every once in a while for years. Its a pretty nice restaurant. The staff is usually pretty friendly, and the food is always good.

They have a decent menu, its not too extensive though.

Dos Pesos used to be one of my favorite places to go, but now it seems it is always dirty and the food is just okay and nothing special. Too bad it didn't stay the way it was.

PROS:
CONS: not clean

The best chips and salsa around :) Be sure to try the fajitas - both varities are sure to satisfy even the fussiest of palates. The servers are quick and efficient - your chips, salsa, and drinks are replenished even before you can ask! A truly enjoyable dining experience!!
