This restaurant has been a part of our family for as long as I can recall. Now that I have moved away to another state this is the one main place we go to eat when we come home to see family. Their is no place like it. I wish Georgia had Mexican food like this!

Great food; however, there's too long a wait after food is ordered, and food is often lukewarm. It may be the fault of the waitress/waiter who may let it sit too long on the counter. I haven't been there in about 6 months, so hopefully things have changed. In any event, I rank Mexican Fiesta right up there (3rd) behind Xochimilco and Mexican Village.

I have been going to this restaurant for more then 15 years now; it's my favorite mexican restaurant by far! The decor is warm and inviting, food & salsa are fantastic, even on busy nights the wait is never very long and food comes out much quicker then expected. Super yummy!

Been a customer for over 23 years. Now living in Florida, can't find a restaurant that is as good as this place. Always visit when we are in Michigan.

Everyone from the detroit area knows Mexican Fiesta, but if you're not from the area..........
Great food, Phenominal prices, and good fast service.
Fiesta is good for a night out with the guys or a first date. It's very versatile.
The food is a little greasy, depending on what you get, but I've never gotten a bad meal from Fiesta, and I've been going there for over 20 years.
P.S. - Call ahead on Friday and Saturday nights, it's always packed then.

Cons: Foods kinda heavy, but it's Mexican so you should expect that.

I have this reviewed on my blogger blog. I love this place, I go all the time, usually to the Canton location.

This is easily my favorite mexican restaurant in the burbs. I have been going here since I was small and so I know the menu well. I will be honest in that I usually get the same exact thing in here as I know it is the best.

James and my favorite meal in here is the Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas. The corn tortillas are dipped in an Anaheim pepper sauce and are stuffed with white and dark meat chicken that is so very tasty. The enchiladas are covered in a delicious white cheese and are so delicious. You can get three for 9.50 and split them with a friend (or husband) or take half home and have a great second meal that reheats like a dream. They come with your choice of two sides, either cole slaw, refried beans or spanish rice. You can't go wrong with any of them.

My parents are hooked on the Botana here, a deluxe nacho type dish with refried beans, mexican sausage, the incredible white cheese and all manners of veggies and sauce. It is quite tasty but wow so filling. They can split a mini one. If they do not get this my father usually gets Beef and Cheese Enchiladas while my mom orders a Chicken Chimichanga. When they do this they too have a second meal after.

Again I can actually review alcohol here as I have had it. The margaritas are tasty and big. The jumbo is happy enough but they also have deals on half liters and liters which was most appreciated by my former coworkers. Its definitely reasonable in my book. You can get a pitcher of Sangria for 8.00 and my parents are big fans of that option. Beer and mixed drinks are reasonable and they even have ice cream drinks, so fun!

We come here at least once a month and are never disappointed. One big tip is to ask for hot chips to go with your salsa, guacamole and/or queso. They charge fifty cents but it is a world of difference, trust me. Everything else is a bargain at any rate.

Cons: Long waits during peak hours, desserts nothing special

I've lived near this place all of my life and I still say it's the BEST Mexican restaurant in Wayne County, yes, I said County.

I've been to plenty of other Mexican restaurants for comparison too. I go to school in Detroit so we've frequented Mexican Town, I've been in San Antonio, Texas' Mexican restaurants, and even MEXICO!

This IS authentic Mexican food. I don't know why people are going to cry about $1.50 for hot chips and salsa. You aren't paying to just "get them heated" you're paying for the tortillas that they use to make them, and the home-made salsa. Tomatoes aren't cheap people! Also, I wouldn't say that it's "watered down tomato paste!" It is NATURAL salsa that's fresh. Some people prefer chunky, some people prefer hot, some people prefer w/o chunks. I find that their salsa is refreshing and doesn't leave one with nasty smelling garlic 'n parsley breath!

Their beans and rice are sooooo flavorful!

I don't think they're expensive at all. Their prices are very reasonable and they give you a TON of food. Other places that I've been to were more expensive with smaller portions.

BTW they make FRESH BREWED iced tea. You should try it. It's not the nasty NESTEA fountain junk.

The waitresses have always been friendly to us.

Yes, people ARE human and sometimes forget that you asked for extra sour cream, straws, etc. I'm sure it's not easy trying to remember 10 different people's requests when you're serving multiple tables. So keep that in mind and stop complaining.

Cons: None

I don't think I've ever had coleslaw at an authentic Mexican restaurant. The chips were literally soaked in oil...and so were my bean enchiladas, which came without any enchilada sauce. I could have gone to Gordon Food Service, soaked the food in grease, and would have had the same experience. In plain words, I would pay NOT to eat here again.

After being in Florida since 1982 I returned to Mexican Fiesta for the first time in decades. My family has always considered this to be "The Jewel" of the trips home and I couldn't imagine it was as good as they still said it was. The food was AWESOME, the cheese enchiladas were amazing, the tacos were a little greasy but that just gave then a very authentic flavor and texture not unlike the Mexican food I enjoyed in Brownsville Texas just north of the U.S./Mexican border.

I read other reviews on CitySearch before I went and was a little concerned but let me tell you, the hot chips are not an extra charge and even though coleslaw sounds foreign to a Mexican Restaurant it is in fact THE BEST COLE SLAW I ever ate and it compliments the rest of the fare nicely.

The service was fast, EXTREMELY friendly, and the facility was comfortably clean. So ignore what the nay sayer?s may say, if you want simple, authentic Mexican food that is served in large portions with exceptional flavor then make this your dinner destination tonight.

I grew up going to Mexican Fiesta and although the building has been there for over 45 years, it is very clean! Customers complain about paying for hot chips, unlike restaurants downtown, Mexican Fiesta does not re-use their chips. They pay for the tortillas and pay people to make them so if $1.50 is too much to pay for an appeitizer, then people need to stay home. It has american and mexican food to offer and has always been accomadating to my children and myself. I would recommend this place to everyone and will continue to give them my business. It has been open for 45 years for a reason!

My family loves this place, we must eat here every weekend. I don't care if I have to pay for hot chips, they are so good, it's worth the money. My kids always want to go here, my son has some food allergies and Christina always makes sure that we find something for him. I would recommend this restaurant over any other mexican food around. Great food and great service.

I too am surprised anyone can say they didn't like it. Most Mexican places are a bit less clean than your traditiional restaraunt, but you look a bit past that. They have the BEST Salsa of anywhere, get the hots chips, you won't be disappointed. I love the Combo, 2 Tacos, Tostada, Cheese Enchilada, swap the Tomalie for Been&Cheese Burrito add some jalapeno's, a huge meal. Also, they have the best Spanish Rice of anywhere I've had. Compared to many other Detroit Mexican places, this is tops.

I am sorry that I went here. First it is a dirty restaurant, everything about it is dirty tables, floor, silverware. It took forever to be served. The mexican food is terrible.I can get better taco's from Taco Bell. These were lukewarm and tasted like they had been warmed up in the micowave. Someone who came with me got the fish and chips and they said it tasted very good, much better than my mexican meal. Save your money and go someplace else for better mexican food.

ALSO I LOVE THE COLE SLAW. I ATE HERE TWICE A WEEK WHILE I WAS PREGNANT AND EVEN HAD MY BABY SHOWER IN THEIR BACK ROOM, OUR SERVER WAS GREAT, SHE EVEN HELPED US DECORATE. BELEIVE ME...I'VE TRIED A LOT OF MEXICAN PLACES IN THE AREA AND THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place might suit those who have never had real Mexican food (and Taco Bell is NOT real Mexican food). However, for those who have been treated to the real thing, this place is an insult. Ground beef in place of shredded beef, and a bell pepper in place of a chili?!??! The best thing on my plate was the refried beans, which I'm sure came out of a can.

Bleah!!!

Just got back from this place. Started out waiting for chips and drinks - took forever! Then the 'trick' question, "do you want warm chips?" - which means "do you want to pay for chips?" What Mexican restaurant doesn't give chips out? Rediculous. The the waitress asks leading questions and unbeknowngst to us, nickel and dimed us for cheese and sour cream. Then we get the bill and see that she charged us dinner prices instead of lunch prices. The best part was paying the bill. when we asked about the extra charges, the guy behind the counter says in a snippy tone "well if you would have looked at the menu, you would have known!" - unbelievable. Even better, I think the snip at the counter was actually a manager or the owner.... nice.

Almost should have known... on the way into the place I saw a sign that proudly hangs over their counter that reads "The bank doesn't make tacos - and we don't cash checks!!" - kind of sums it up right there.

So besides the extra greasy food and poor service, this would be great place to eat! Or maybe I will just go to Taco Bell next time.

Mexican fiesta is a great place. I have been coming here and sitting at the bar for years. They have the best top shelf margaritas i ever had and i have been to five different cities in mexico. They use 1800 tequila, cointreau and grand marnier....a good amount too...for only 7.75. At applebees they are probably 12.00 with half the liquor. The two other drinks that are untopable are their long islands and spanish coffees that they light on fire. Also very inexpensive. The staff is great. They are down to earth people who will do whatever they can to please you. The bartenders are great. If it isn't extremely busy they will serve a full menu at the bar. Scotty and Miguel are my favorite and i recommend them to make the drinks i listed...Oh forgot about the food...Its Great! Fajitas are my fav.

This restaurant is a poor excuse for mexican food. First impression walking in is that it is dirty. I should have turned around and made this my last, but I am often too critical according to my husband. My final impression is that this place is filthy! We had to sit at the bar because the locals wait indefinently it seems for a table. The bartender that served us was smoking cigarettes behind the bar. He never washed his hands before serving us. Furthermore, he finished off the left over drinks that he was mixing. I have to wonder if the owners are paying off people, because this place doesn't appear to have ever been seen by a health inspector or a member of liquour review board. The food. Disgraceful. With Mexican Town just about 15 minutes down the freeway, it would have been a smarter trip. The salsa (somewhat chunky) is served in containers that maple syrup is served in. You can barely get anything out. We ordered a combination plate and enchilada dinner. Everything was dry! The tamale didn't even resemble one, It looked like it was scraped off of someone else's plate. We had to ask for clean silverware (dirty silverware was rolled up in our napkins). Oh, and there is a charge for chips & salsa at this place. You are not told about this when ordering. I have never been to a mexican restaurant and been charged for chips & salsa. It's not even worth it. I would highly discourage anyone from trying this place. Del Taco across the street would have been better.

The bad reviews about this place below remind me of the time I took my grandma out to dinner here. She had never been to Mexican Fiesta before and liked Mexican food, but said she hated it after we went. She looked at the menu, asked about one of the entres, and then decided on stir fry. When she got her food she took a bite and was disgusted. I asked her what was wrong and she said it didn't taste like stir fry. I told her they didn't make oriental food, the stir fry was Mexican. She didn't expect authentic Mexican food. When the waitress came by to ask how our food was, she let her know that she was very displeased. The waitress tried to recommend another dish, but my grandma was rude after tasting the stir fry. The waitress no longer went out of her way to help, and I don't blame her. I think the food here is excellent and I've been here probably 25 times. I've never seen the staff acting rude in any way, and my order was never wrong. The people who say the staff was rude must have been very nasty in the first place.

Pros: excellent food and service, good quality

Cons: busy on weekends, sometimes you have to park down the street

My family and I have been going to Mexican Fiesta for at LEAST 17 years! It was my restaurant of choice to go there with my prom date after my 1991 Senior Prom, so you KNOW it has to be good! It is one of the few restaurants left that a couple can go to and eat for under $20.00 and STILL have food left to take home. The margarita's are very , very good and the hot chips are AWESOME! I just love their mild salsa...I wish that they would bottle it to sell!

The take out is fast and they wrap the items well so that they arrive hot at your house! I have even gotten their take out when going to the Drive-In at night!

In short, this is a restaurant that is a MUST DINE AT for Mexican food lovers!

PROS: Great salsa, great botanas, FANTASTIC PRICES!!
CONS: Lack of parking/sometimes hard to get into at dinner times Fri thru Sunday

I'm a little surprised at all of the negative reviews of this restaurant. I must admit I have not been there in about 9 months, but I used to go quite often and always loved their beef and cheese enchiladas and cole slaw. I never seemed to have any problems with the waitstaff
that I can recall. I think their prices are reasonable. Now that I'm thinking about it while
I'm hungry, I think I'll go tomorrow.

I have more complaints than I have room to type. They put celery and other fillers in their chunky beef to save money, and let me tell you, celery doesn't go well with mexican food. Their salsa is a joke, watered down tomato paste with seeds. The service is awful and you are lucky if they get your order correctly. When they screw it up, don't expect an apology. One of the top 3 WORST places for mexican food in the Metro Detroit area. Take the extra time and go to Mexican Town in Detroit where they have better food at a cheaper price.

I grew up not far from this place and even worked there for a VERY short period of time. My sister used to love going here, but I'll never set foot in the place again. The service is poor and thats the BEST thing about it. I agree with the Taco Bell reference, the food tastes like cardboard, the sauces are bland as can be and the prep leaves alot to be desired. Oh...and on top of that, the drinks were watered down like you can't believe. Save your cash, Taco Bell is more authentic than this tripe.

This is great mexician food!! I love this place and have been frequenting here since the early 90's. The food is always good, my favorite is their Botana. You have a choice of either hot or cold chips (and they DO charge for them....$1.50). I don't mind paying for them either. Their margaritas are great and so is the sangria. The service is quick and most everyond I've ever encountered have been really nice.

PROS: great food, good prices, good service

Mexican Fiesta is my favorite place to go for Mexican food. The restaurant is divided so you do not have to sit near the smoking area. You get chips and salsa as soon as you are seated and there is no charge. Big menu with reasonable prices....and you always get more than you can eat. I love the Tostadas! They have daily luncheon specials. The friendly staff makes you feel welcome. Small parking lot so parking can be a problem.

PROS: Great friendly service. Luncheon specials and reasonable prices.
CONS: Parking can be a problem.

I ordered the Wed special of 2 "meat" enchiladas for $4.75. When I got my bill, it was $9. I was told that chicken is not considered "meat". To make matters worse, I had a cashier that was not even involved in my conversation with the waitress snicker pointedly at me. This is customer service that I've never experienced in my life before. Do not give this restaurant the satisfaction of taking your money.

This is an insult to Mexican food. I think it appeals to the Taco Bell crowd. I can't believe either one has stayed in business so long. Charge for chips???
Go to El Naciemiento, Evie's, LasGalanes or anywhere else in Mexican town if you want real food.

I've been going to this restaurant for my bday almost every year. As a vegetarian, there are a lot of meat-free options for me. All the food is absolutely excellent and it's not expensive at all. I believe I pay about 6-7$ for my enchiladas, and then chips come with the meal. I'm always stuffed, and I always have leftovers!

If you want "real" mexican food, you may not like this. It seems Americanized. I've been told that it's more spicy then original mexican restaurants, but that's the way I like it.

I highly recommend the cheese enchiladas. I always get 3, with rice and beans and take half home! My friends also tend to get the beef and cheese enchiladas quite a bit. My other favorite is the Tostadas - flat shell, with beans, cheese and lettuce - very good!

There service is great as well. Food always comes very quick, and you get chips and salsa almost immediately.

The only complaint I have about this restaurant is the layout. It is always very loud in there because of the way the rooms are divided. My family parties are usually shoved into the middle of the room with booths on either sides, this can be quite distracting when you feel like you are in the middle of everyone and talking loud just to hear.

However, when I go in groups of 4-5, it's great! Smoking and non-smoking is very well seperated. We never had to wait more than 20 mins, even on a busy night. They really know how to organize their customers.

Finally, they have take out! So you can call and order and come pick it up any time, no problem. I've done this a few times from work and I absolutely loved it. It came hot and yummy!

This has been my #1 choice for Mexican since I first discovered it 10 years ago. It's a true original since there are only 2, and it is far from a chain. Go eat there today!

PROS: Good food, good service
CONS: A little loud depending on where you sit

Mexican Fiesta has the best mexican food around! My family has been going there for YEARS and they keep getting better. The beef and cheese enchilada dinner is a favorite of every one I know that go there! Ask for the flauta sauce for dipping your chips. It's the most delicious salsa I've ever eaten! They make it FRESH multiple times daily and it's got this subtle kick. You won't be disappointed! The restaurant expanded a couple of years ago and it was the BEST move! They can seat so many more people now and the wait isn't nearly what it use to be!

PROS: Delicious food, reasonable prices, generous portions
CONS: not nearly enough parking spaces available for customers

The food here is really good and you get a huge amount. Always enough left for lunch the next day. Prices are not bad. Except for chips, you pay extra if you want them hot. Good kid menu, both mexican and american food on it. They have the best coleslaw in town!

Only an average TEX-MEX, not even real mexican food. Who ever heard of coleslaw instead of rice? And please don't insult me by charging for the chips! The people who rave about this restaurant have just never been to Mexicantown in Detroit.

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend, but both my wife and I found the food to be average or less for the area. My favorite Mexican dish is enchiladas, and the cheese enchiladas I ordered were covered with melted cheese and did not have any sort of sauce on them. Basically it was a plate of melted cheese with interspersed tortillas. Does it say "come back"? No.

I have been to Mexican Fiesta twice, because two people I know raved about it.The first time I was very dissapointed,They have the nerve to call that tomato paste salsa, its just watered down tomato paste, best chips I've had much better, and they did not charge 50 cents to throw it in the microwave to warm them, avacado dip what is this goes by the market ,go to a Taqueria in Mexican town and you will find authentic salsa and chips are free I would strongly recommend Mi Pueblo for authentic Mexican food I have been to all of the Mexican Restaurants in the Detroit area and Mi Pueblo is the nearest thing to Mexican food I have found.I lived in Mexico for 8 years and this is not authentic .

This is my favorite restaurant in the entire world. My mother started coming here when she was pregnant with me, it is in my blood. I have seen it grow from a one room restaurant to the three dining rooms and cantina that it is now. Everyone I know, I have eventually brought here and they have all loved it! They always have 2 questions: "You have to pay for the chips and salsa?" Yes you do, but it is worth it. You will never have chips like this anywhere else; "You get cole slaw with your dinner?" Yes you do, and it is the best you will ever have. Very affordable, always excellent service, outstanding food. Just doesn't get any better than this. Now if I can just convince them to open one closer to me!

This is a place that my brother-in-law that currently lives in Florida ALWAYS has to visit when he is in town! The food isn't "bad" but, you can do much better by driving the few extra miles to Mexican town.
I think that it is HORRIBLE that you have to pay for the Chips and Salsa, they do bring the chips out nice and warm, but, Chips & Salsa are the staple of Mexican restaurants!

Mexican Fiesta has the best authentic mexican food around. Their burritos and tacos are to die for and they have a really good reputation for their Botana's. Their wait staff is exceptional and they don't mind special orders. Always willing to do it your way. Come early they sometimes run out of the best stuff. Chips and salsa are the best around too.
