Greasy chips, food was ok otherwise. A lovely distinct odor of sewer gas takes you back to simpler times, making you simply stayed home and had a sandwich. Condemn this place now!!!

The staff is very nice. The food? Pedestrian. If you are going there for anything besides convenience or memories forget it. Quality seems to have dropped off over the years.

The Super Nacho's are out of this world, no one makes them better then Xoc's. And their Amaretto Organe Bloosoms are fantastic, i would love the recipe. Yeah the decor has not changed in 20 yrs, but that is what make you feel like you are

We headed to xochimilco yesterday as both a family Easter celebration and also my son's 20th birthday. I hadn't been there in probably 20 years or more. That is how the decor looked, very outdated and almost grungy. I had made a reservation for a party of 12. They started off by trying to seat us at 2 tables when there was barely anyone in the restaurant. We finally got that straight.
The flaming cheese was not flaming (what is that about?) It tasted ok but no ambience. For the first time I can remember, I actually sent my chile rellenos back. It was horrible, full of grease. The staff was very drab and not energetic at all...maybe they didn't like working Easter. We had to ask for some items like water several times. The chicken fajitas were very good. No deep fried ice cream at all. It was nice to get the family together but based on our experience I would give xochimilco a miss next time. I am not a really fussy diner but I do like to feel appreciated as a patron. No where was that evident in our visit.

So disapointed in what used to be a favorite! Xochilmico has jumped the shark!!! The food has gone greasy and overly salty. The staff are unprofessional and even condisending and discriminatory! There are so many other mexican restaurants in the area, makes staying away from here an easy thing!

My family and friends decided we wanted to eat some good Mexican food. Since Xochimilco has not been a disappointed in the past we decided to have a late evening meal there. All of our meals tasted like frozen food that was reheated and served. Sorry to say we will not go back there again nor will I recommend this establishment to any of my family or friends. I am truly amazed at how poor the quality of food tasted considering they use to be the best in town.

We went as a church group of about 12 people. We called several hours before getting there and they made reservations.

The men's bathroom was not accessible for me in my wheelchair but they let me use the ladies, and let others know I was using it, even though I could lock the door.

All in all, a nice experience and we will consider going back as a group.

Horrible food. I live in Sw Detroit and would never recommend anyone eat here or eat there myself. Quality of food has gone downhill in last 10+ years. There are so many better restaurants here i dont understand why people eat there. No locals eat there trust me! Try lupitas, or evies down the street or even go down vernor to los altos, or mi pueblo! Not a good restaurant-end of story!

XOCHIMILCO is my all time favorite mexican restaurant. I can barely say the name but that doesn't matter...The food is awesome (their wet burrito is my favorite), resonable in price, and the service is quick. I also am a big fan of their tastey margaritas.

Several bars located within the two story restaurant. The slightly cramped seating doesn't detract from the good food and overall fun atmosphere.

I had excellent food here. The service was great and so was the live band. I had enough to bring home leftovers. The price was fair. Everyone at my table enjoyed what they ordered. The margaritas were perfect. I totally recommend them. I will always drive an hour to go here, you should too!

I called in a carryout following a long workday. The person taking the order English wasn't the best & the Mgr Tony took the phone. We confirmed the meat choice as Ground Beef (regular) not Chunky Beef (look like brown chunky tuna). Long story short, when I got home I was shocked to see the order was wrong after we discussed and confirmed it. I called back spoke with Tony the manager, explained to him the situation. He was rude and nasty from the start and stated that I got what I ordered and I needed to bring it back. Flabbergasted by his demeanor, I asked him if he had me mixed up with someone else maybe having a bad day (perplexed by his behavior). Only for him to reiterate what he said in same nasty tone. I explained to him that I lived to far to drive back for a$10 meal but I would gladly return 100% of the meal tomorrow when I came that way for work. Contrary to the truth, he said again "You got what you ordered, either bring it back now or forget it.? I asked him was business so good that this is now how they treat customers...He then hung the phone up in my face. I later called back an spoke with the lady I initially spoke with earlier to confirm the meat requested and unaware of what was going on she said yeah the ground beef (which she refers to also as Regular) which confirmed my either he wrote it wrong (probably) or the kitchen made an error, however, I still cannot understand what happened to make him act so irrational. I told him I was coming there before he became manager there, my co-worker and I were planning an event there to celebrate a promotion I just received, but NO MORE they have no respect for there customers!

I've been going to Xochi's for about 20 years... until recently when I saw an insect crawling on the wall. I was disgusted and so upset because I truly loved that restaurant for so many years...and now I can't even stomach going in there. In the past, friends have told me that they too have seen insects there... but as far as I was concerned, out of sight out of mind... until I experienced it for myself... I'm sorry if I've ruined it for anyone else now :(

All of the restaurants in Mexican town are great. We picked Xochimilco to eat in the first time we went. The place was really crowed, we they found us a table. The staff was friendly and quick. It was really a fun atmosphere in there. I ordered Cheese Enchiladas, my favorites. And when they came, they were so good. Smothered with cheese and sauce and a huge portion, I took half home with me. Everyone at the table was very happy with what they ordered. And were stuffed!

We all would recommend it for fun and food!

Our family of 5 (two adults, three kids) went to Xochimilco on a Saturday night for dinner. We ordered three main dishes (my 10 year old eats more than a kid?s meal) and two kids meals. My wife and I shared a drink from the bar. We ate "upstairs." Generally, we enjoyed ourselves.

Environment: There have been some comments about it being dark, musky, and even unclean. I would have to disagree with those comments. I never felt like the food or area was unclean and the "mood" of the room wasn't dark and musky. It was busy, active, and generally very upbeat.

Quality: The food was good. Nothing to write home about, but filling. Our kids were happy, although their food was nothing like Taco Bell. The warm chips and salsa was a great starter, I'd have to say they were the bright spot of the meal.

Price: I've read a lot of comments about the food being ?very cheap.? I'd have to say, at least for dinner, that was a bit over stated. Our total bill was $42.00, not expensive, but far from cheap. But their drinks are reasonable.

Time and Service: We ate early for dinner, around 5 p.m. We had to wait 20 minutes which wasn't too long. When we left around 6:30, there was a huge line waiting. They offer 30 minute call ahead seating; I would suggest using that service if you're coming during the busy times. The food came out faster than we expected. We ordered our drinks and food together, and got our food faster than the drinks! We had a new waiter so I'll excuse some of the poor service. Our youngest spilled a drink and I was kindly given the rag to clean it up. He didn't check back with us very often, but it was pretty busy. I'd have to say the service was the low spot of the dinner.

Kid Friendly: The kid meals were a good price and the amount of food in them was more than they could eat. They didn't have anything to color with, so there wasn't much from them to do.

Overall: Good food, we may go again, but not a family favorite.

I have been going here since I was 12 and I'm now 31 and it's still my all time favorite Mexican food. Service is quick, Food is awsome, and the drinks......if you're getting a mixed drink let's just say make sure to not be driving home. Would be better to have it in a better area of the city but I will never stop going here.

Once at work I was invited to go to "Mexican Village" which to those that know of the place, there's actually a rest. called Mexican Village on Bagley on the other side of the expressway from this place. When we arrived I tried to give it a chance, I really did. We went and sat upstairs and I thought the place smelt horrible, I couldn't pin-point the smell but it was musty. Yuck. The food was okay but not even close to Mexican Village, I would never go again when I know the heaven sent Mexican food is just across the expressway.

I'd highly recommmend Xochimilco (Sow-she-mo-ko) if you're looking for authentic mexican food! They have delicious tacos, LOVE the chips & salsa & the cheese/sausage appetizer dip is highly recommended! They have a good variety of combo meals to choose from & excellent burritos! The downside is the area, it's in a run-down, but unique, part of Detroit - Mexican Village. It's an older restaurant, definitely casual dining, has a dingy atmosphere (dark lighting w/ cut up rooms), but it's large enough to accomodate a large group (with kids). Parking always tends to be limited also. It's a small lot & this restaurant always seems to have a crowd - it's definitely worth venturing to Detroit to taste for yourself!

Xochi's is just OK. There is much better Mexican food within a few blocks, but the service is quick and the prices are low. Atmosphere: You're in someone's dark, damp basement and the shag rug seems to growing something. Eat upstairs if at all possible.

I couldn't say enough good things about Xochimilco's! My parents used to take me when I was a little girl, I'm in my 20s now and have continued to make it a regular stop whenever I'm in the city! The portions are HUGE (always plenty to take home for lunch the next day), service has always been outstanding, and you simply cannot beat the prices! The environment is fun, sure it could stand to be updated a little bit - but who cares! To be honest, I sort of like that it hasn't changed. I've never had a problem with parking, there is a huge lot right behind, and plenty of parking on the streets within a couple blocks.

I recomend Xochimilco's whenever I get the chance. If you are ever near this unique neighborhood in Detroit you should deffinetly check out this local eatery. It's a can't miss of Detroit!

Be careful when you leave though, or you might end up in Windsor!

This is the best mexican food around. They have great lunch specials ($3.50 for plenty of food, along with the complimentary chips and salsa). The chips are still hot from cooking. I've never waited longer than 10 mins for my food. Great for a power lunch. Also good late night on the trip home from the bar...

I grew up in Detroit! I now live in Tennessee & have been down in the south for 15 years. When ever I am back home this has often been my 1st stop! I love the food!! Being Mexican I truly love the authentic cuisine!! My favorite is the Chicken & Mole'!! But i can eat something off everyone's plate to get the tastes!!! I love the picture wall! My kids are on there & we always find their pics!...I have a few places that I absolutely HAVE to visit & Xochimilco's is one of them!!! Xochimilco's/Coney dogs/E & L store & Telway's are my stops!!! And while I'm down on Bagley I have to walk across the street & get fresh tamale's! Now I'm hungry for Xochimilco's....might have to make a long trip! :)

I have been going to this place since my husband & I starting dating 14 years ago. The menu hasn't changed but doesn't need to. The food is always served hot and you don't have to wait. The chips & salsa are the best (hot & fresh, too)! The lunch menu is great. Nothing over $3.50 plus you get free chips & salsa.

I ordered beef enchiladas for the first time last night at this restaurant. I was really impressed. The food was tasty, fresh and inexpensive. The waitstaff were friendly and efficient. I would recommend this restaurant to most people.

If you are tring to decide which resturant to go to in this little village, stop thinking a drive directly to Xochi. This is one of the best resturants in Detroit. I say this after driving to the area from Battle Creek over 2 1/2 hours every Sunday for this treat. There prices are great and the food is even better. Service ...Fast that is all I can say. They say it isn't a date spot, but I have to disagree not only can you start a great date at Xochi, but you get the night started off right with a cheap meal that leaves more money for other fun things. My Fiancee' and I actually have it planned that we cater our reherasal from Xochi. It has been part of our relationship since day one.

Thanks for a great place to Eat I highly recommend it,,,.... 5 Stars.

Having traveled extensively throughout Mexico & the southwest , I have dined at 100's of Mexican Restaurants.

Xochimilco is the best Mexican Restaurant in Michigan.

I rank this Restaurant #3 in the United States,
& in the top 10 of all of the Mexican Restaurant's that I've dined in.

There isn't anything on the menu that I wouldn't recommend. The Guacamole is to die for.

Service is prompt, they start you off with some fresh tortilla chips along with hot & mild salsa.

Portion's are huge!!

The only drawback is location, if your not carefull when you leave you might be taking a trip to Canada across the Ambassador bridge.

The overall ambiance is that of a Mexican Cantina.

Reservations: I travel about 25 miles to get there & I go there at least once every two weeks. I have never waited more than ten minutes for a table.

I have been coming to Xochi's for years, and there is definitely no other Mexican restaurant that compares. The Flaming Cheese is a must-have appetizer, and the burritos and enchiladas are amazing. Order the Super Burrito only if you haven't eaten all day...it is what it says it is! Reasonably priced and great for birthdays or other celebrations, this restaurant will not disappoint!

Xochi's has absolutely the best chicken fajitas you will find in any restaurant. The amount of food is enough for two people at a cost that is a couple of $'s less than any of the competition. I have been eating at Xochi's regularly for about 13 years.
Thanks

Excellent service with traditional Mexican food. Almost all of the restaraunts in Mexican village are great, but Xochimilco takes the cake. Try Mexican burrito for a filling meal.

Xochilmilco's was the best place for an "after-test party". The food is wonderful and the golden margaritas are the best. Highly recommended. Just what the doctor ordered.

After reviewing the top 10, I must disagree. El Comal restaurant serves the best Mexican food in Detroit. The food quality, taste, service, and value make it #1 in my book. It's also been newly renovated inside and has live entertainment Fri and Sat. I've tried all the restaurants on the list and none compare to the Comal!

We recently visited the restaurant and was happy to be inside in the cool air, noisy atmosphere and a cold beer! The food was tasty and fresh. I loved our waiter, what a hottie! Lots to look at and the kids in the joint didn't give me a headache. I will share my dining experience with friends and will return before going to elsewhere to eat. Thank you for the good time.
