Every place in town could learn a lesson from these guys. Although it is busy at lunch, you are always seated immediately, greeted and given chips and salsa. Your food comes quick and is delicious and inexpensive. A great value.

Pros: Excellent food, service, prices

Cons: there is only one (so far)

I grew up in southern California. Mexican food was a part of our daily experience. Real Mexican food, not "Tex Mex" or some other make-believe type. I've been in Michigan for almost 20 years now, and El Arriero is the ONLY Mexican Food restaurant I have found that serves authentic Mexican food!

From the salsa to the refrietos it's the real deal. Have the Caldo de Pollo and Chili Colorado or Verde... you won't find it anywhere else in Grand Rapids like this!

This other day I saw this comment of a person that went to El Arriero and got sick, I remember that on that same day I went he said he got sick because of the food and I don't think it was because of that because if it was the food I would have gotten sick too and I didn't!! He is just RACIST because that food is the best!!!!!!!

It's not easy to find a Mexican restaurant of this caliber in Grand Rapids. Location on 28th St. is perfect when you are out shopping or if you need to do a business lunch or dinner. I have never been disapointed. if you haven't been you should definitely try this place. Great!

Pros: The Best Mexican food in town

Cons: a bit crowded on fri sat eve must be the great food

I have been eating here for about 4 yrs. It is what I think is authentic compared to what I have eaten in Mexico. If you like Taco Bell... you dont' know what Mexican food is.
Servers are friendly and enjoy my attempt at speaking Spanish. It is very clean and the salsa is the best!

This is, without a doubt, the best Mexican place in Grand Rapids. The food is fantastic, the prices are very reasonable, the staff are friendly and personable and service time is VERY quick. I would recommend this place to anyone! Definitely try the "Quesadilla Suprema"--it's fantastic!

This restaurant is family run and offers authentic Mexican cuisine at a low price. Menu items range from $4-$14, so there is something for everyone's price range. Al carte options are also available. Staff is attentive and they offer bottomless chips and salsa while you wait for your meal.

Located in the Family Christian Store plaza on 28th.

I have been going to this place for the past few years, and I absolutely love it! The staff here are friendly, the food is inexpensive and exceptional! I recently moved out to Colorado and must say that I have searched and searched for a place that makes chicken quesadillas the way they do here! I will definitely be stopping by when I return home for a visit in a few weeks!

I've only been to this restaurant one time but I'll be back. The service was fantastic and the waiter went overboard to be helpful. We had three children with us who really made a mess and the waiter discouraged me from trying to keep it clean. The food was great but the chips and salsa which were free I believe were the best I ever had at any restaurant. If you're looking for the Mexican hat dance you're not going to find it here. But if you are just looking to kick back and enjoy a fun evening with friends and family, good food (reasonably priced) and not have to worry about the kids mess, you've got the right spot. All restaurants have their own personality, personally, this is the kind I like.

Cons: Could yse a little mexican music

I have been to El Arriero a handful of times for lunch. In general, the food has always been very good, and very reasonably-priced. The ground beef, particularly in the enchiladas, is exceptionally moist and tender (melts in your mouth almost). I found that most everything other than the a la carta menu comes with beans in it, on it, or on the side (which is only good if you actually like beans). Many items do not come with tomatoes of any kind, so I found myself using salsa from the chips and salsa on several things.

Pros: authentic food, tastes homemade, cheap prices, fast seating, clean, well-lit

Cons: sometimes a little slow, not much variety on the menu

I went to El Arriero the other day, becuase I wanted flautas. Worts Ever!!! I had been there before and had Chicken fajitas, they were not the best, but wanted to return and give it another try, but I don't think I will be coming back. The service can be better! I wanted some rice, and the server was no where to be found. No smiles either! If you want good, tasty mexican food, this is not the place to go.

I've had Mexican food all over the Midwest, West Coast, and Mexico from the "taco truck" level to fine dining. I hate to say this, but my experience tonight at El Arriero was the worst. I was really hoping that this place would be one of those "great little places in a shopping center.....", like a great find. The food was very bland!!! It was as if they weren't even trying to make the stuff tasty, I've had better Mexican from Banquet. The food was cheap, which was the only plus.

This place is GREAT. I found it by accident one late night, and have been going there ever since. The staff is GREAT, they make you feel at home, are friendly and attentive. The food is pretty good, not top of the line, but you are getting a lot more for the money. Overall is a GREAT place to go. Try it, youll love it!

El Arriero should be much more popular than it is. It makes Beltline bar look like Taco Bell! The staff is truly Mexican, they offer some very authentic Mexican dishes along with the more Americanized typical fare that midwesterners "think" is Mexican. The complimentary chips and salsa is fresh, the food is very fresh and healthy, and the value is unbelievable! The service is quick, efficient, and very friendly. The refried beans and Chili Colorado are some of my favorites.

Outstanding service, great food and unmatched prices. There's nothing that should keep you from dining here.

This restaurant is excellent. The service is great, and they serve the best refried beans I've ever had. I highly recommend it. It may be a little more expensive than, say, Taco Bell, but c'mon. It is worth it.
