I am impressed with the activities schedule; it keeps residents motivated and entertained !The rooms are clean, well kept, but resident`s dignity is diluted by some nurse staff that speaks broken Polish and is not polite or patient. The policies are not listed on-line therefore staff like the one above mentioned may act without constraints.Another thing is the 7:30 PM snack for residents in their 80`s.How is it possible that Cheetos-like snak is served at such a late hour to a person who has already heart burns symptoms?!! Why not a healthy snak as fruits or oatmeal?

Care is marginal...Observed that CNA staff spend most of time on off shifts (pm's in particular) in fax room socializing or in halls at documentation monitor ( ignoring lights, alarms). Supervisor pm shift poor bedside manner and at times appears to have a lack of knowledge of individual patient needs ..I would not recommend the subacute services but the Assisted and longterm units are well managed and clients well cared for.

I was just released from there for a fractured femur. While I was there I found over all the personnel was wonderful.

However, I was given a overdose of insulin and had to be sent to Saint Joseph's. I spent the night there and had to go through two excruciating painful IV injections of D50 (50% Dextrose) not to mention the fear of my blood sugars getting too low. Another time the nurse gave me two pills and when I asked what they were she told me (some kind of antibiotic) and asked her why I was taking antibiotics, she said she would have to check my records and I never got an answer.

The other issue I have with them is that I am diabetic on a diabetic diet but was still given juice with high fructose corn syrup. The nutritionist said that it did not matter with the older diabetics and I did not have to have it. Sorry but continuous high blood sugars are bad for your heart, kidneys and can cut years off of your life.

I would think twice about your loved one if they have a loved one with a medical problem.

I have a lot of mixed feelings writing this review. Superior Woods is the place my Mother place spent her last days. She like the place and found the staff nice and enjoyed the varied things they had for the residents to do. She was even able to get her hair done every other week. The only thing she did not like was the food, it was not the "down home" cooking she was used to.

But I did not like medical side of the place. We did not realise we could still go to our own doctor while Mom was there, but used the house doctors. When Mom was feeling ill they were very slow in responding to her care. They basically came out and told her she was dying at one point, upsetting her greatly. When she fell during the night, we were not told till morning. I think if you used your own doctors while here, it would be much better. But I am still not sure if I can recommend it.
