Zap Zone: Good with the bad.
This is one of the premier places for kids to have fun. Laser Tag is a unique experience. Black Lights and special effects such as sound when bases are tagged, flashing lights sensitive to noise, the red beams of the lasers cutting through the fog- it is an experience to say the least. Kids are especially drawn to it because its like playing IN the video game. Older people like it for the tactical strategies that can be used, and members like it for the more sophisticated games at their member nights.
Now that rounds out the fun stuff. The not so pleasant facts may help you make an informed decision on whether or not to go there. If you are just looking for a place to take your kids to and have fun, that is your business, however Zap Zone in exploitative. They tell people that games are 15 minutes long, but the actual game time is usually 13 minutes. Sometimes 12 minutes, and sometimes 14 minutes. They then try to trick you by telling you that their games are "approximately a quarter of an hour". Just a note about language- they try to use twisting language especially in their Farmington location so that they can never be liars while evading the truth. Ann Arbor is unique in that they care very much for their customers and break all kinds of rules (such as running 15 minute games on occasion or adding time if they was a malfunction), however overall it is run like a mill to maximize sales while pushing customers around (again, Farmington is more guilty of this- its where the owners work). The owners don't like to be identified so that they can avoid customer complaints and confrontations. The managers are poorly paid and poorly treated. The lower level employees are treated even worse. Most workers are kept on call (without pay) and notified sometimes hours before a shift. Wages are below poverty levels for most- $7.40 for referees and cashiers, and 24-26k are year salaries for the location manager who is usually required to work 90-100 hours every two weeks. Almost everything purchased is foreign made (their clothing is not certified as sweatshop free) or purchased from Sam's club (where most items come from China).
The list goes on. Basically Zap Zone is like any other private corporation, their only motive is to make money which results in cutting costs, duping customers, and mistreating or taking advantage of employees.
Good place to take the kids, bad place to support.

I also noticed their is a listing for Zap Zone Rock Climbing. Never has this location offered rock climbing- it is a ploy to attract more customers (they also advertise as paintball- again something they have never done)

Pros: Fun

Cons: Supporting exploitative practices

This place is a blast. If your looking for a great time come here-- it is a great place for a birthday party also. Any kid would love to come here and would really appreciate it. Overall, this is a fantastic place to have fun.
