BEWARE OF THE OWNERS AND UNWRITTEN RULES !!
We booked this place for our sons wedding and here are things you need to know before you do the same.
1. The Owners run this place and live onsite. They tell you that you have to rent 20 rooms for the first night and 40 rooms for the second night. The cost comes to around $13,000 plus a $500 deposit. When the guests reserve a room, they are charged one night room charge as deposit. This is non-refundable. When you check in you have to pay the remaining amount in full.
Now, If the rooms they have specified on your list have not all been rented, even if your guests rent other rooms not on the list AND extra nights that are not required, you still have to pay for those unrented rooms. The owners collected a lot more than the $13,500 for the rented rooms. It should be a flat fee and the prices of the rooms rented are deducted from this amount. Must be too hard to figure that out. Also I will be watching my credit card account as they took my card number over the phone, but said they had not charged me. I payed again for a room I had reserved.
2. The grounds had been driven across with a heavy vehicle/equipment and had not been repaired. We had deep ruts in the grass where our tent was. You had to be careful where you walked all day and night. Pretty precarious when you are dressed up and carrying a drink or food.
3. The rooms are okay, but in need of update and repairs. We found many rooms that the blinds did not work plus other minor repairs that were overlooked. The mattresses are cheap & hard. They also did not clean up any trash on the grounds after our rehearsal dinner. There were not many trash cans around, so we had put the trash in boxes. They were still there the next noon and we had to clean everything up before the wedding.
4. The breakfast I will have to say was very good. I don't know if this is just because it was a wedding weekend.
5. The unwritten rules they do not tell you about.
They called the police twice for noise violations. The first time they said the music was too loud, the second time the guests were just visiting and we had to shut down the party. They even told some quests they could no longer be in the game room.
When we toured the property, given all the information for renting the grounds and even the many times we were in contact with this venue, nothing was said about a curfew. There were rumors the following day about a 11:00 PM (unwritten) curfew.

We were also concerned that we may be overcharged for clean up since they were upset, so we cleaned up the grounds before leaving on Sunday.

Yes, we had a lovely time after the water spout tornado and hail in the morning of the wedding, plus the intermittent rain after the out door ceremony, but there are many things to think about if you look to rent this property for a wedding.

1. Do you care if you are overcharged for rooms your quests don't rent?
2. Do you care that the rooms are a 1 star room?
3. Do you care that the owners don't take very good care of the grounds?
4. Are you willing to end your reception by 11:00 PM because the Owners live on the grounds.
5. Are you willing to do your own clean up?
The views of the water can be beautiful if the weather is good, but is it worth the hassle we had to put up with and the early ending of the reception? NO - Look elsewhere, there are many other places with views.

My husband and I wanted to get away for the weekend and found Lake Bluff Inn & Suites to be just the place we needed. The view of Lake Michigan from our room was breath taking, our room was very clean and nicely decorated and the staff were very friendly. We had a wonderful time and would reccommend Lake Bluff to everyone that needs a few days to relax.

We went for a midweek night in early March, The website is nothing short of fraudulant. We booked after looking at the website, shouldve looked over the reviews and investigated farther. Hot tubs/sauna closed and or locked, The front desk said they are very private THEN said "dont you have a jacuzzi tub in your room?" What the *&)(^ does that have to do with the hot tub and sauna ? We paid $205.00 plus taxes and got a basic room with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace.......Wow....The pools are outdoors, their website says nothing about this, The Hot Tub and Sauna are locked and no one will tell you how to get into these until after you leave and complain to the owner, The rec room with games is closed during the off season, once again no mention of this on the website, We asked the front desk clerk about this and she said she would inform the owners, From reading the reviews here I can see that its happened often and that the owners just plain dont care which leads me to believe they fully intend to scam people into their "resort" then never say anything. We contacted them several times asking for a 50% refund only to get a $50.00 voucher for a room there.....Like we will ever go back to this joke of a resort. Other fraudulant things, The ice maker is in the rec room that was closed for the off season, we were told to go to the gas station 2 miles away to get ice.....Wonderful... Faxes are not free, I do business 7 days a week, Found out faxes are .50 cents per page, copys are .50 cents a page too and IF the ice machine was accessable it would have been .25 cents per little ice container. Even local calls are .25 cents each....... That all after $205.00 ??? The only way this place stays in business is they still get customers by scamming them. The room (which we were told was the best) was a fireplace Suite with jacuzzi tub, Couldnt see the lake because it was early March and gets dark around 5pm but we could tell that they had no beach and the property looked like a state park with old picnic tables and cheap grilles cemented into the ground that were rusty beyond use unless you use lots of foil. The room was dirty to say the least, I will say the bathroom was very nice and looked like a new tub was installed, bedding was very old looking, picture 60`s porn set, The bed itself was lumpy at best, The fridge was turned off and took 2 hours to get cold so we did take that trip to get ice. All in all the worst stay of my life, I stay out on business 2-3 days a week in mainly mid price hotels in the $60.00 to $100.00 a night range and this place was worse than the $39.00 Travel Lodge I stayed at in Detroit over 20 years ago.

Pros: Newer bathroom tub unit...Yeah thats it.

Cons: Everything else, Misleading website

.

This is one of the worst places I have ever stayed. I've stayed in everything from 5 star hotels to pensione's to motel 6's. This was terrible. To say that their website is misleading is being kind, what they sell is a lie. It's not close to anything. My husband and I arrived for his family reunion and when we realized that we were in fact 3 miles from anything significant...and then another 1 mile to his family's hotel, that and the fact that we realized that this place is a Motel 6 on steroids, we tried to get out of the reservation. The manager wouldn't even take our call....told the reception to just tell us to deal with it. We booked 2 days before and had been in the room an hour. Worst place to stay in America! Don't waste your money. Sleepy Hollow or the lovely Bed and Breakfast downtown....better bet!

Pros: none

Cons: location, atmosphere, price

.

The Inn has done a lot of remodeling during the last few years. The problem is the location. The hotel, not Inn. They do not serve breakfast. The hotel in not near any beach. You cannot even walk to a nearby beach. You cannot walk to town or restaurant. It is a 5-10 minute drive to everything. It is isolated. Nothing really to do. The pool is small. The rooms are satisfactory and the housekeeping is nothing to brag about.

My family and I have been going to Lake Bluff on and off for the past 15 years. You can tell the owners take great pride and care in their property. The renovations we've seen over the years has been done with quality and comfort in mind. I wish half the chain hotels would take care of their properties this well. It's relaxing and gives you the impression you're not near anything, but it's only a mile and a half to downtown South Haven. We've even seen some gorgeous weddings going on there.

A great motel that has been in existence for many years. Updated, of course, and very modern. Right on Lake Michigan. Great accomodations and doing a great business even tho there are many new hotels/motels in South Haven.
