Looking for contemporary furniture? We are your ultimate destination! 50,000 square feet of contemporary furniture, lighting, and accessories. Hillside Furniture is Michigan's Contemporary Furniture Authority. What's new. What's now. What's next.

More about Hillside Furniture

Hillside Furniture opened in Bloomfield Hills, MI., in 1974 as a full line furniture store, carrying medium to upper end merchandise. One year later, it was completely changed to all contemporary furniture and accessories and has remained that way ever since. During the next several years, the company grew in size and expanded to a newer 20,000 sq. ft showroom in Bloomfield Hills, with an off site warehouse in the early 1990’s. In 2003, an opportunity presented itself for the purchase of prime real estate, one mile from our location. One year later, on August 1, 2004, Hillside Furniture’s new 50,000 sq ft facility opened to the public, as the largest contemporary furniture store in Michigan. Today, Hillside Furniture continues to be a family run company with Jeff Selik as President overseeing the day-to-day operations, merchandising, and advertising. Terri Selik controls all floor displays and payables, while Bruce Selik is CEO and oversees the total operation. Hillside Furniture has been a member of the Contemporary Design Group (CDG) since 1984, and Bruce Selik is currently on the Board of Directors. CDG is the largest contemporary furniture buying group in the country, which allows Hillside to bring unique, exclusive contemporary designs to the metro-Detroit area.

I purchased my office and bedroom furniture from Hillside and couldn't be happier. I needed service for two lamps and it was dealt with quickly and at no charge.

And giving Hillside a 2-star rating because they only sell contemporary furniture is like panning a burger joint because they only sell burgers.

READ THIS.....Please do NOT do business with Hillside Furniture. Many years ago, I agreed to purchase approximately $6,000 of furniture from them to be ordered once I decided on fabrics, finishes, colors, etc. Three days later, I went to the store to cancel the deal but they were closed for the day. When I called the following day, I was told it was too late to cancel. BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS FURNITURE DIDN'T EXIST because I never selected details. NOTHING was ordered, NOTHING was delivered. They were not out any money, merchandise or effort. NOTHING whatsoever was done to constitute earning a cent of my money. They kept the cash simply because they could. Their sole reasoning was that I signed a contract. They offered a store credit. The dollar amount was too large for small claims court and I expected that an attorney would be expensive. I had just been diagnosed with life threatening cancer and didn't know if I would live to raise my 11 year old daughter. Furniture was no longer a priority. I needed the money. Feeling cheated and heartsick, I hated to think about the waste of money but periodically tried again to appeal to their sense of fairness or compassion. Each time was like talking to a brick wall. More time passed and I finally found someone on Craigslist who agreed to buy my store credit at a discount. Thinking that anything was better than nothing, we met at the store. That's when the Hillside owner said no one else could use my credit! Seriously? What difference should it make to him? He just didn't want to give up my money. After numerous heated debates, tearful pleas and the free use of my money for years, he finally said he would DO ME A FAVOR and let the guy use my credit, MINUS $200 for the store. Unabashed greed dictated he gouge me one last time. Hillside is heartless, ruthless and greedy. Once they have your money...good luck. STEER CLEAR. Besides, their prices and service are NOT good. This experience was actually my second. The first, over a decade ago, involved a wallbed I purchased from them. Long story short, it fell on me necessitating a trip to the emergency room. It just missed my toddler daughter who was standing a few feet away. I told them about it but got little reaction. I suppose they were afraid I would try to sue them. I wish I had.

Response from this business:

Obviously, some people don't take the time to be considerate about the saleperson's time that was used all day to put the order together... Did she forget about them? Sales people don't earn a cent when sales are cancelled... As to the sale being CLEARLY indicated as a final sale, when a person signs that it is a final sale, respectively, how can they honestly be mad? A store can't legally change the terms of the sale after it's signed, so why should a client be able to? I guess it's the mentality that's it's a final sale for everyone else other than me... ;-)

One person gave Hillside a low rating of 2, complaining that it was "ultra modern." That seems a bit like panning a pizza parlor because they serve too much pizza. Hillside does a great job of contemporary furniture. That may not be your thing, but if it is, then this is one of the best stores in Michigan, maybe the best. Also, in the same review, it was said that the service was "OK." It seems clear that the person writing the review did not buy any of this furniture, the style of which she doesn't like. Speaking as someone who has purchased quite a bit over the course of several years, I can say that their service is excellent. We had one small hiccup on a delivery once, but the president of the company himself, Jeff Selik, got on the phone with me and made sure it was taken care of. Can't beat that.

Thanks Jerry! Couldn't have said it better myself! --Jeff Selik, President of Hillside Furniture

I've been to the rest--this is your one-stop-shop for contemporary furniture and accessories. A lot to choose from--be prepared to focus on one room at a time because they have a ton of stuff for every room in the house.

They moved in 2003, and this listing has not been updated. Largest contemporary furniture store in michigan. No one has as much contemporary furniture as them. Huge selection--a ton of good stuff. Prices are higher--but good quality and design don't come cheap.

I was looking for some home furnishings when I stumbled across this store. Set in a very expensive part of town, I quickly learned how expensive furniture could be. The good part is that their clearance section was loaded with great bargins. I guess the wealthy dont look in the clearance section much. If you are in the area, I would take a peek inside.

PROS: some good deals on clearance furnishings
CONS: very expensive furniture

I was disappointed in my visit to Hillside Furniture, because there was very little variety of styles of furniture offered. Everything in the store was ultra modern. I like contemporary furniture, but I honestly had a hard time finding anything that I liked at this store. The quality seemed decent, the prices were about average, the service was okay, but unless you like really, really modern items, this store is not for you.

We just bought a bunch of stuff from them. Big warehouse sale at their store. Not cheap, but you can tell it's good quality.

Pros: Beautiful unique contemporary furniture

Cons: Too much stuff I want to buy at once!
