Ackroyd Scotch Bakery & Ssg

Best Haggis that I have had outside of Scotland... it was so good, I was almost homesick. I cooked mine in a slow cooker with a jigger of Jameson Whiskey in the water (Haggis is typically boiled) and it was perfect.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the meat pies and the pastries! I grew up near Redford and with their scottish meat pies! I live in Wyoming now and just learned that ship worldwide! I just ordered 2 dozens meat pies and pastries for my sisters birthday! I am so excited for the holidays because I am going to treat my friends to the finest scottish quisine!

I've been hearing about "pasties" for years from one of my "yooper" friends and finally got a beef pasty at Ackroyd. I'd CRAWL over hot coals to get more if I had to - but instead I'll drive an hour. Don't forget to top it with a dollop of sour cream!!!

My friend grew up with their delicious meat pies- when he moved to Boston it was one of the things he missed the most from MI- I recently called up Ackroyd's and had them ship me a dozen meat pies as a surprise for him. They were pleasant and helpful on the phone and the pies arrived in perfect condition! He was thrilled and boy were they delicious!

My family has been going to Ackroyd's for over 30 years. Recently my Grandfather died and we served Ackroyd's at his wake, nothing was better than to celebrate him and his scottish ancestry than meat pies and bridies. Outstanding food which always brings us together.

But no matter when I go, the women behind the glass counter are as surley as all get-out.

I think perhaps it might be part of the whole atmosphere, but JUST ONCE it would be nice to get a smile and a thank you.

Finally, THE FOOD IS WORLD CLASS, but order AHEAD for the barley/sewitt (white) pudding (sausage). They never seem to have any when I arrive.

Maybe they just don't like me.

My brother passed away from cancer in January of 2007
I was trying to think of something I could do for him that he liked. I had meatpies and sweets from Ackroyds sent to him in Santa Rosa, CA.
He was surprised to get him and enjoyed them very much. He use to visit Michigan to visit our Mom each July and December. Always stopping by Ackroyds to get pies, bread and tarts and extras to take back home. Ackroyds was one of his favorite places.
He enjoyed this very much. We miss him.

Ackroyds is a wonderful bakery. It is located on 5 Mile Rd, and is easy to find and there is ample parking. The staff here is so friendly and very helpful if you don't know what something is.

Ackroyds has so many different yummies....Meat Pies, Sausage Rolls, Pasties (meat), Scones and other Pastries. It is hard to make a choice as to what to buy. So just try one of everything!!

We drive over an hour to get Ackroyds goodies. I love the German Biscuits. We get extra meat pies and take them home and freeze them. That is of course whatever is left after the hour ride!

This authetic Scotch bakery has many items that appeal to people of Scottish heritage as well as other nationalities. They have a good variety of different kinds of meat pies, as well as many delicious dessert items. The help is generally friendly and accomadating. The prices are quite low. I highly recommend the bridies, they are tasty!
